The Map/Generator Locations
The most important thing in this chapter is to have the map of the mines memorized.
Unlike Chapter 2 "The Eight Pages" the map itself is not randomized and will remain the same.

However, the generator locations differ on each run.
There are 16 possible generator locations downstairs and only 3 upstairs, resulting in a total of 19 possibilities.

There is only one generator which will always be at the same location.
It is right at the beginning next to the elevator you'll have to use in order to finish the chapter.

The elevator will only work once all 6 generators have been activated.

Once that first generator is activated, all gates on the map will open,
leaving you to decide which way to go first.
Activating will also start the proxy. It will now be chasing you.

The Enemies
  • The Chaser

The main enemy of "Into the Abyss" is the Chaser. It is a proxy controlled by Slenderman.

Once the first generator is activated, the Chaser will keep running after you. She runs much faster than you will be able to get away.
Once attacking, she will throw you on the ground. You'll not automatically die, this is up to difficulty and
condition of your character.
After being attacked, your character will only be able to move extremly slow for a short amount of time, making you an easy target for Slendermans tentacles.
Her attacking range is pretty wide as well, so don't think you can run past her.

In order to get away from the chaser, you'll have to use your flashlight. You can change the lightning option of your flashlight by using the right mouse button. This will freeze her for a certain period of time. You can actually keep freezing her until you are able to move around the corner. Now use sprint to get as much distance as possible.
You will need some distance to be able to activate the generators, as most are in closed rooms with only one way out.
Blinding the proxy will also give you a stamina boost, you should use it.



While this is not confirmed, I also do believe the chaser will need longer to find you if you keep your flashlight turned off. (At least this is what I experienced)
The disadvantage of this is, of course, that you won't be able to see the Chaser as fast and that you'll have to do more steps (pressing F, locating chaser and clicking right mouse button to be blinding it). So in case you'll want to rely on this, make sure to turn your flashlight on once you can hear her somewhere near to you. Otherwise she'll jump at you before you even realize where she came from.

The sound of your footsteps while running will also attract the Chaser. Just as turning on generators. She is definitely attracted to sounds.

  • The Slenderman

While the Slenderman is not the main threat in this chapter, he can still turn into a huge pain in the ass.
He will not chase you right away and only appears after some more time has passed. His aggro will enhance the more time it takes you to activate the generators.

He is also more dangerous than he was in Chapter 2, simply because you have much less space to move around and because you're already being chased by the proxy.
It is possible that he'll teleport right in front of you while the chaser is right behind you. Especially in long and small hallways this will cause huge problems. Make sure to not run into places like this once you have a strong Slender aggro.


It is very helpful to save your general sprint for the ending part, so don't overuse it. In the beginning, it will be easy to keep blinding the proxy and only sprint shortly with the use of your stamina boost to progress further on the map. You will be the easiest target of all time when your sprint is used up at the end.
Tricky Locations
There is one room you should always get out of the way as early as you can. It is this room on the left side of the map:

There are a lot of objects in this room which will force you to take a lot of twists and turns. You don't want to be trapped in here later on when you're heavily being chased.
There are also 4 possible generator locations in this room. In many cases you can easily get 2 or even 3 generator activated in here right away.

In case you're already being chased by the proxy, you can use a trick in order to get away from her.
Go up these stairs:
You'll now have a long range to go backwarts while blinding the proxy. You may even already check if there's a generator in one of those rooms upstairs.

Now, it doesn't look that way at first, but you're actually able to jump down from the end of the container:

This way, you're back downstairs and you can put much distance between you and the chaser because she will always be running down the stairs and will never jump down the container like you did.

The second floor may have that long, straight bridge and gives you the ability to cross the map pretty fast, but especially later on it can be a death trap when you have Slenderman standing on one side and the Chaser running for you from the other. At the beginning, it is fine. But definitely avoid it later on.

These containers are in the big hall at the beginning where you'll also find the elevator. They're just a really mean death trap. Whatever you do, just don't try to run away by walking around them on the right side. You can't. Instead you'll be trapped and an easy target for the chaser.

ive done some experimenting and ive found that the chaser spawns after generator 2, and slender doesn't show up till number 3, and what ive also figured out that the chaser spawns right next to the elevator, so what i do is i turn on the first generator, then i go into the corridor on the left of the entrance and i go to the spot where the there are 2 generator spawns behind a metal fence looking thing and turn that one on (2 if possible). after that i sprint back out the way i came to the main area and i blind the chaser and make sure that she is behind me at all times so i don't wonder where she is, but i always blinder and then sprint away and wait for her to catch up. and after that i do it again, and again, so that way, I know where the chaser is and i can kind of control it too. i hope this guide helps anyone who struggles!

Man the first time I did this I got it and never saw Kate or Slander, but when I watched my friends try they had a horrible time and it was pretty funny.

It's actually a pain in the butt on hardcore mode. Funny story when I was playing on EASY mode my first time around, I was at 6/6 generators sprinting back to the elevator and slender literally spawned INSIDE of me in the hallway, instantly killing me. This happened to me TWICE at 6/6 generators in the exact same spot on the sprint to the finish. I avoided that particular hallway on my 3rd attempt, and slenderman DID spawn 2 feet in front of me again but that time I was able to juke him.

no the proxy starts coming after hiting the second generator not the first its like giving you a head start but the second generator is when the proxy starts chasing you

Good Guide But :1 Question As I Saw In Videos When Chaser/Proxy Jumps On You I Saw In My Friends Gameplay How To Get Her Off Any Ideas How To Do That If You Do Help Me Out Cause I Got The 5/6 Generators But She Got Me At The Last One So Help out

I somehow couldn't do this back in day, the way it is designed, you could walk around in circles way too easily. Got sick of trying after Kate got me on my way to the lift, I guess 3rd time you lose. Knowing that 1 route has so many, easily got first 2, went upstairs to get away from that thing, 3. Then was able to get 4 before Kate found me again and it got me as I grabbed 5, but having a map to get back to lift made it easier.

I actually beat this on my first attempt, i never got attacked by the proxy... im proud of this
