Getting the Game To Work
1. Download game from steam.
2. Navigate to your local files ~/steamapps/common/Iron Warriors
3. Go into the "BIN" folder
4. Right click on "core.exe"
5. Select properties
6. Select the compatibility tab
7. Tick the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
8. Also tick the "Run in 640x480 Screen Resolution"
8a. Click "Apply"

9. Go to the ~/steamapps/common/Irown Warriors directory. Double click on the core bat file.
10. Let core.exe run (If the editor instead loads, run the game from steam instead)
11. Once the game has loaded up, go to the "Select Player"
12. Create a new player and delete the "default player"
13. Go to "Settings" and then "Video"
14. "Select "1280x960" resolution (the best the game offers).
15. Put texture quality, effects level and realism on any setting besides "User". High or highest should be fine.
16. Exit game.

17. Go back to the "BIN" folder, Right click on "core.exe"
18. Select properties
19. Select the compatibility tab
20. Untick the "Run in 640x480 Screen Resolution"
21. Click "Apply"

22. Go back to the ~/steamapps/common/Irown Warriors directory.
23. Double click the Core bat file, unless the editor loader earlier, then just run the game through steam.
24. The game now works!

P.S. this fix might not be universal, feel free to mess around a bit with compatibility settings to get the game to work properly.

Yeah, works once, twice... but as soon you want to go back into the menu for changing key bindings for example, everything was messed up again. Wrong resolution and nothing to read in the menu/settings. Had to set the keys with a text editor. Thanks for the how-to though.

I followed the steps above but only this worked for me finally running Windows 10 - I was able to select 1600x1200 resolution:
1. Keep the 640x480 compatibility setting for core.exe
2. Find the "start_wovid.bat" file and use that - nothing else would show the menu text

Thanks! Working fine and in 1920x1080 using the cfg.bat at game folder for set the "final resolution" (after following your instructions) :summer2019flag:

I had the same problem with steps 9-11. \common\Iron Warriors\core.bat opens core.exe, which in turn opens program editor.
whatever the case may be, opening it with steam worked. I completed the rest of the steps. and I can still play it with steam just fine.
