When You Can Start Breeding
You can purchase the chocobo stables as soon as you aquire the Highwind. You wont be able to actually breed until Gold Saucer opens back up after the Corel Reactor and Fort Condor Missions and you get Cloud and Tifa back in your party. But as soon as you do you can be on your way to breeding the ultimate chocobo!
What you'll need before getting started...
*Gil! Lots and lots of gil! 962,000 to be exact!
*Chocobo Lure (preferrably mastered) puchased from chocobo billy at the farm for 2000 gil.
*150 Sylkis Greens (cost 900,000) bought from the chocobo sage located on the Northern continent
between City of the the Ancients and the Crater.
*6 Chocobo Stables(10,000 each).
*3 Carub Nuts stolen from Vlakorados found by bone village. Looks like a Dinosaur and has alot of HP
*1 Zeio Nut stolen from goblins on Goblin Island located to the northeast. Its in the shape of a goblin head. Walk around in the wooded area til you get into a fight.

Mountain/River Chocobo
First you need to head to the Corel Chocobo tracks to catch a good chocobo. I usually catch around two or three to help my chances of actually getting a Good chocobo. Now head to the farm and talk to Billy. Choose Move Chocobos and he'll ask which one and give you a brief description of what type they are. Hopefully one says "That looks like a good chocobo", but instead of moving it just back out of the conversation. Now turn loose all of the other chocobos that you caught except the good one. Leave it outside in the pen for now, you'll move it in later.

Now head to the Mideel chocobo tracks and catch a Great chocobo. I believe the ones with the spirals are the ones you're looking for. These guys can be tough to catch with low level characters. I had to feed mimmet greens to the chocobo with two characters while the third used high level magic(bio3) on individual enemies. Dont use ALL. Once you've aquired a few head back to the farm. Save before you talk to Billy about moving the chocobos into the stables. If one or more are given a description of "Great" you are ready to proceed.

First Move in your Good chocobo and give it a name. I named mine whatever the type it was; Good, Great, Green, Blue, Black, etc...Now move in your Great chocobo and hopefully if you got a Good female you'll get a Great male or vice versa. If you end up with 2 of the same sex start over or if you have more greats or goods waiting to be moved try your luck with them. If not just reset because the sex of the chocobo is random everytime. So save before every move. Once you have a Great and Good of opposite sex you are ready to move on.

Feed both chocobos 25 Sylkis greens each and then head to Gold Saucer. Go to Chocobo Square and talk to Ester and register either one for the races. Choose short race(for the sake of time) and get started. Most of the time you can leave it on Auto and win no problem. Race each great and good til they are class B racers and head back to the Farm.

Save before entering and ask Billy about Breeding. Choose the two B class racers to mate and and give them a Carub Nut. Hopefully you end up with a Mountain or River chocobo. It is a random process on which one and if they are special. If you didnt get one special reset game and try again. Now assuming you have now a Mountain chocobo in your hands and it's a female, head out side to fight 10 times, save, head back to Billy and breed the same Chocobos using the same type Nut. Now you're hoping for a River Male Chocobo. If you dont get him reset game and repeat until you do. I was very lucky this past playthrough and got every chocobo I needed up until time for the Gold then I had to start resetting. Now You should have BOTH River and Mountain chocobos!
Black Chocoobo

Now that you have a River and Mountain chocobo, feed them 25 sylkis greens eachand head to the races. Race them until they are Rank A chocobos. Head back to the farm and save. Breed them with a Carub nut. If Billy says its too soon to breed just go fight ten battles, SAVE, and try again. Hopefully you will now breed a Black Chocobo. Now is when I like to take my chocobo out for a ride. There are some really good materia to collect in caves throughout the world ( quadra magic, Mime, HP<>MP.) You can also go to Lucrecia's Cave with Vincent in your party and get the ball rolling on his Ultimate Weapon and Chaos Limit. She wont give it to you yet...but by the time you get your gold chocobo she will!
GOLD!!!!!!

Now that you have a Black chocobo head its time to catch a Wonderful chocobo! Before doing so be sure to return any chocobos to the stables as you wont lure any new chocobos with them out. Now head for the Icicle Inn area. There are some tracks located to the west of Icicle Inn. There get into a fight with 2 bunnys and a chocobo. Thats a wonderful chocobo. Once you catch one(or 2) head back to the farm. Save and try moving it in. You want the opposite sex of your Black Chocobo. Once you have one of the opposite sex its time ro say goodbye to one of your other chocobos cus there isnt any room left in your stable for breeding. BYEBYE GOOD!

Now feed your black and wonderful chocobos 25 Sylkis greens each and head for the races. They need to race until they are both S rank chocobos. Once you accomplish this its time to breed'em. Dont forget to SAVE. Breed them with the Zeio Nut and with a little luck you will now have a GOLD Chocobo! Now the most powerful Summon/Attack is yours for the taking, Knights of the Round!!!
Tips and Conclusion
While racing be sure take the GP instead of the items to help with obtaining Omnislash and W-Summon in Battle Square. Be sure to always save before breeding/moving to ensure you get the desired outcome. If there are any questions/suggestions be sure to message me or leave a comment! This is my first guide I've ever written and hope you guys enjoyed it!

Thanks,

back in 1998 I used a magazine to do this, never forget the experience. how many MASTER ALL materia would I like to sell to feed my f***king yellow birds? Yes.
Decades later it turns out you dont even need them to be S-Class! I still race the bastard things though because its a good laugh.

I would like to point out that Gyshall greens are the best greens to use to keep the chocobo from running away during combat.

I'd like to add that the Gold Saucer / North Corel tracks will always give a Good Chocobo when it's paired with two Spencers.

However, it's roughly a 50/50 shot of getting the Good Chocobo from other ones, so don't do what I did and spend hours releasing every Chocobo just because it wasn't with the two Spencers.

Also, do yourself a favor and get both a male AND female of both Great and Good Chocobos. This will save you a lot of time.

To reiterate what's been said so many times, save before you breed. If you reload the game and you keep getting the same chocobo (color and gender) each time, feed one of the parents one Green to throw off the Random Number Generator (RNG). This worked perfectly for me.

You've overprescribed on Sylkis greens. 5 each will get your good and great chocobos to rank B easily. 15 each allowed me to get the blue and green through to class A on automatic. The black Chcocobo can get to class S with 20 greens and manual control, whereas the wonderful one will definitely need the full 25.

That's 85 total instead of 150, saving you a massive wad of cash.

Here's a REALLY helpful protip (HINTHINT STICK THIS INTO YOUR GUIDE) if you're getting the same color and gender chocobo from breeding. Just zone in and out of the farm a couple of times and resave the game. This will reset the RNG seed and will help ensure you're getting a fresh chance at your desired breed instead of the same bullshit. :squirtmeh:

Thanks CouldStrife8690, your guide was pretty damn helpful.

Oh some other stuff to note:
Apparently greens don't improve the stats of offspring chocobos.
Offpsring stats are based on the MAX stats of their parents, where greens only improve the BASE stats of the chocobo eating them.
Related, offspring chocobo's stats are unaffected by their parents' rank.
Racing only improves the chances you'll get a special chocobo.
Joe, the owner of TEIOH, will always have better stats than you.

try feeding different greens if you need to reset a bunch seemed to change my outcome until it worked

I found some more info. The minimum rank required to get a specific gender and a specific breed only gives a slight chance for the breed AND gender you need. If you rank up one or both you get better chances for the one you want. Also, on PC the random roll for what breed you get gets stuck sometimes, so just fight as well.
