Fix for the "no speech sound" Bug

This guide solves the problem with missing speech/talking sounds of Geralt and various NPCs, after changing language settings.

No Sound bro?

Description of the Problem

Problem Source: Changing language settings in Steam or the launcher.
The Problem: Geralt and NPCs remain silent while conversating.
Problem Causer: The engine, which isn't able to find the right audio files.

The Solution

First, choose a language you want to play with and keep that one in mind. You can change it later any time using the following steps.

1.

Select the game in your Steam library, right click its name in the list to the left hand side and choose Properties.

2.

Navigate to the Language tab and choose one of the seven available languages from the dropdown menu. Close the Properties window.

3.

Start the game through Steam. ! It should download the required audio files now. This might take a while. If it doesn't, you already have them installed.

You now have the audio files. Now we need to configure them properly.

4.

Start the game and in the game launcher, navigate to Options. Set Text Language and Voice-over Language to your desired option (The same option as in step 2.). Confirm your input by clicking OK. Close the launcher.

5.

Press your Start button on the desktop or on your keyboard and enter regedit.exe into the search field. Start regedit after it shows up.

6.

In regedit.exe (start with windows+r or windows search), navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/CD Projekt RED/The Witcher 2. Select the Speech option, right click it and select Modifiy and set it to EN, if you want English audio output.
You can also choose a different language code. A full List can be found here[www.science.co.il].

7.

Close regedit and start the game.

Audio output should be working now.

Thanks, it must have been a momentary glitch. I tried it again, and loaded an earlier saved game.
I went up to someone and started a conversation and it worked fine.
I went back to my current progress and it works fine now.

In that case I don't think the game itself is the culprit here. Maybe try to start the game and then alt+tab back to the desktop and try to change the sound output manually by clicking on the loudspeaker icon on the bottom-right corner of your screen. It sounds like a sound-srouce output glitch and not like the issue described in this guide, which is an actual bug in the game. Maybe your PC auto-switches sound sources when you start the game for some reason. Good luck with that mate.

yes, only occurs in this game, no others. I found that plugging my pc into my tv via hdmi and using it as the monitor fixes the issue, but it is just hella inconvenient.

I am experiencing no sound at all. No music, background, or voices. I just installed idk whats going on. Going to try to reinstall, but if that doesnt work any ideas on what else I can try? I did all of this and the settings were already in the configuration you described

Hello, I am stuck on the regedit.exe part as I am using a Mac laptop. Would you be able to help me out as apparently Mac does not have anything called a regedit.exe, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

thank you for this guide. I tried the steps, but there was no option to select anything under voice over language. I got to pick english for text, but the voice drop down was blank :( im reinstallig to see if that helps. I also didnt see anything in regedit under HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software at all.
