Experience the Alpha - Download the Grand Theft Auto 3D mod

Ever wanted to play the alpha build of GTA III, when the game had the famous cartoonish graphics, a different Liberty City, cut vehicles and weapons? Now you can, thanks to Grand Theft Auto 3D, a mod that recreates the early stages of the game!

Introduction

We're all familiar with the early screenshots of GTA III, when the game had cartoonish graphics, a vastly different Liberty City, a HUD that looks nothing like the current one, unused vehicles, cut peds. Undoubtely, plenty of us wanted to play the alpha build of the game, but alas, only Rockstar has access to it.

Fortunately, that's about to change. A talented group of modders from GTAForums managed to release the very first mod that aims to recreate the early stages of GTA III. Named Grand Theft Auto 3D, the original name of GTA III, this mod, being in development for at least 4 years, succeedes in delivering the alpha experience we all missed in late 2000 to early 2001. Though it's still not finished, those who are interested in beta stuff of GTA series ought not to miss the chance of playing this mod, as it still looks very close to the actual thing.

What is it needed for the mod to run?

Since Grand Theft Auto 3D is a mod built on GTA III, the vanilla GTA III is required to be installed. However, you needn't replace the entire installation of the game. What's needed is just the audio folder and its files.

Installing the mod

1. Go to your GTA III install dir. Select the Audio folder and right click it to copy.
2. Paste the folder with its content somewhere else on your PC, in a different folder.

3. Go to the GTAForums page of the mod. [gtaforums.com] Click on the yellow download button. It will redirect you to the MediaFire page where you can download it. Click on the green button and the mod will be downloaded on your PC.

4. After the mod is downloaded, open it with WinRAR. Go to the gta3d_3-1-2019 folder and extract all its content to the folder where you've put the Audio folder. If asked to overwrite, click yes.

5. The dir of the mod has to look like this:

Playing the mod!

Run the GTA3D.exe file. If the mod was installed without any problems, you'll get to the main menu, which will remind you of the GTA2 one.

Start a new game. You'll be spawned in Chinatown with Alpha 8-Ball. In front of you is the alpha Beamer.

All that's left is you having fun! Feel free to roam around the alpha Portland with 8-Ball ( you can kill him if you want ) and cause havoc by killing alpha pedestrians, gangs, and driving alpha vehicle designs!

There's even a debug menu, which can be accessed by pressing CTRL + M. You can change the weather, give Claude God Mode, spawn vehicles, weapons, mess with the Wanted Level etc.
