Wiz 8 in 2020 on Win 10.

Easy quick guide for Wizardry 8 on windows 10.

Instructions

Tested on Win 10 1803/1903

Step 1: Install the game
Step 2: Delete srDD_Glide2x.dll in the DLL folder. Why? Because it's trash. It breaks the 3d setup from showing more options, causes camera jitterness, and it's glide. It's 2019, you don't use a voodoo 3. Nglide uses it, but a glide wrapper is not ideal.
Step 3: Launch 3d setup from steam. Woah there's more options than before. Crazy! Chose Directx7. And pick your resolution with 32 bit color. Hit okay.
Step 4: Enjoy wizardry 8.

If you still have issues with a previous installation. Download revo uninstaller, and uninstall wiz8 through that, and scan and delete any registry files left over. This guide assumes you have no interfering registry files, and it's a fresh install only.

Optional:
Download wiz8 extender https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/541-wizardry-8-extender-for-widescreen-support/ no longer stretches a 4:3 picture in 16:9/16:10 resolutions. Drop srVP_Wiz8Extender.dll in the DLL folder. This also skips the sirtech intro videos. It's normal. This file is flagged as a virus by some scanners because the nature of it has similar hooking concepts as an actual virus. Use at your own risk.

(2/2) I made a thread on r/MalwareAnalysis where interested users can see the Wiz8Extender.dll on Virustotal and Hybrid Analysis. It seems to be the consensus by those who have analyzed the execution of the .dll that it contains no malicious code. I know that this mod has been used for years with no issues, but I wanted to settle the debate about it once and for all and it does seem truly safe. (1/2) To anyone reading this who still wants to use the Wiz8Extender.dll and has concerns about its effectiveness and safety like I did, I will say that I independently reached out to the creator of this guide, as well as his main detractor (the user who claimed to be an infosec pro who says this is 100% malware). While I haven't yet heard back from the latter, the guide creator definitely seems like an experienced user who knows what he's doing. I lack the knowledge to truly verify that the .dll is 100% safe, but I've been running it on an airgapped Win XP/Win 10 machine for about 24 hours straight now and haven't noticed any unusual network connections in netstat, file modifications, processes, startup services, etc... I've combed through every folder (hidden and otherwise) on the system and I can detect nothing other than the .dll effectively converts Wizardry8 to a widescreen format.
