Strategy
The Commando is the natural leader perk. Your ability to spot cloaked or difficult to see units at a distance, even in complete darkness, is invaluable to the team, especially if you’re able to communicate enemy movements effectively to everyone else. Your selection of assault weapons also gives you an edge in dispatching smaller enemies at all ranges while they disperse to attack your team. You can shoot stalkers and crawlers, for example, that get too close for your sharpshooters and support specialists to deal with, before they can do damage to your team mates. Learning to draw consistent headshots with your perk’s assault weapons is a must if you want your ammo to last through the round. This will get easier as you level up, and recoil becomes less of an issue. Your favorite weapons will include: Bullpup rifle (L85-A2), AK-47 and SCAR MK14 (FN SCAR-H battle rifle). Each is a fairly even step up from the last, and it is highly recommended that you start saving for the SCAR immediately once you’ve acquired either a bullpup or AK47, due to its superior damage, rate of fire, and versatile red-dot sight. Once you have it, it is a good idea to save up and buy yourself an AK-47 in addition to it, for the extra ammo pool, and so that you can apply the formerly mentioned strategy of using the AK-47 as a primary crowd-control weapon, then having the ability to quick-switch to the SCAR in a pinch rather than reloading, when you need to take down a tough specimen in a hurry. It can be useful to fill your remaining 3 weight blocks with a Katana, to further stretch out your ammo and allow you to deal with scrakes.
Leveling
Simply playing commando a lot will naturally net you a lot of AR damage to work toward your perk progression. Since the AR doesn’t have any penetrating power or unnecessarily large amounts of damage per shot, there is little benefit to grinding it against tougher opponents. The more challenging requirement to meet is stalker kills with the AR. Only kills made with a bullpup, AK, or SCAR will count toward this perk, however, they will count regardless of the class you are presently playing, so if you’re playing another class and have a bullpup on you, you can switch to it to take out the stalkers. Stalkers are a somewhat rare type of specimen, unfortunately, so you’ll have to make every kill count. if you’re playing on a team, politely ask the non-commando players to leave the stalkers for you to deal with. Of course, it will be expected that you do so and cover them in a timely fashion, or they won’t be inclined to help you level up. Some maps have a higher tendency to spawn stalkers than others, though their presence on the whitelist varies. Currently, KF-Survival, played on easy, will give you an opportunity to make a lot of stalker kills in a reasonably short amount of time. On regular wave-based maps, play medium or short games on normal difficulty to reduce downtime between stalker kills.

I get your hard on for the Scar, AK, and Bullpup, but that doesn't mean you're allowed to give incorrect information. All ARs count towards both damage and stalker kills.
