Through Abandoned - The Forest - Lost Button

WARNING: Spoilers ahead! Stop reading if you want to discover the game for yourself.

This guide will help you restore the red button without having to replay the entire game.

Red Button

Due to a red herring in this game, you may end up losing the red button by placing it incorrectly in the desert elevator. You cannot regain the button by going to where you found it originally.


This button will be needed for the 4th secret as part of the "Secrets 4/4" achievement in the 3rd level of the desert


This area can be directly accessed without the desert elevator using this door


However, if you have already fallen for the trap, you won't need to replay the game. After completing the game, you can continue playing in the world without restarting.

Steps

1. Confirm that there is no red button in your in-game inventory.
   Warning: If there is a red button in your inventory and you continue with these steps you may corrupt your save.
   
2. Exit the game
   
3. Make a backup of the game folder containing your save files
   

   C:\Users\<username>\AppData\LocalLow\KrutovGames\2 Through Abandoned - The Forest

4. Open "ta2.inventory.txt" file in this directory
   

   C:\Users\<username>\AppData\LocalLow\KrutovGames\2 Through Abandoned - The Forest\saves

5. Find the 2nd line which says:
   

       "Cells": 

   Then add the following lines below it
   

           {
               "_thing": {
                   "uid": "button"
               },
               "_quantity": 1,
               "Selected": false,
               "IsKey": false
           },

   Note: Be sure not to delete any lines, you'll simply insert the lines so it looks something like this
   

   {
       "Cells": [
           {
               "_thing": {
                   "uid": "button"
               },
               "_quantity": 1,
               "Selected": false,
               "IsKey": false
           },
           {
               "_thing": {
                   "uid": "null"
               },
               "_quantity": 0,
               "Selected": false,
               "IsKey": false
           },

6. Go to the location of the 2nd image of this guide and place the button in the correct location to get the 4th secret.

Thank you for the kind words! Many share your sentiment and it seems like this issue could've been a simple fix. The developer has gone on to make the second title in the series and had previously updated this game 4 times according to SteamDB so I'm not sure of their intention. I guess it's their artistic choice to make and yours not to experience it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You did the community a great favour. Thank you for the work you had sharing this, I'm sure it will help a lot of gamers. As for me, I just gave up on this game entirely. They could have made a great game, yet it seems the games were rushly made for sales and never even bothered to fix them...

Yep, unfortunately. I ended up falling for it the first time and replayed the game a second time. I compared the files to see what was different to make this guide.

I don't recommend following this guide's file editing method if you care about achievement trackers since it's not allowed but if you don't care then this should save you time.
