How to fix incorrect resolution
By Companion Pube
This guide will teach you how to fix Call of Cthulhu rendering at a resolution that is different from what you set in the options menu.

The problem stems from the game not knowing how to properly interpret Windows' scaling settings.

To fix this, you need to locate the game's .exe file found in /steamapps/common/CallOfCthulhu.
Once you have located the file, right-click it, select "Properties" and navigate to the compatibility tab.

From here you need to click on "Change settings for all users", then in the new window that opens click "Change High DPI Settings" and once again a new window opens where you need to enable/tick the box under "High DPI scaling override" and select "Application" from the drop down menu (should be the default).

Then hit OK and in the currently highlighted window press "Apply". Now you can exit all the remaining windows.

You can now start the game and your resolution will be exactly what you specify within the options.

For me when I ticked that box and saved, even after checking to make sure it saved, it reverted back once I launched the game no matter what.

What did it for me was do exactly this but in the "Change settings for all users." That kinda...locked it in.

Man thank you so much for this thou! Somehow I got to play two older games at the same time that BOTH have this issue! Other being FF13 Lighting Returns, in that game I just assumed its game having bad AA or something since it just looked kinda blurry. BUT NO! It's exactly same issue as with Call of Cthulhu, now both game looks great! Kinda new to 4K at this point but planning on playing lot of older games so this is EXTREMELY good thing to keep my eye out if resolution seems to be not quite right. I bet there is ton of games with this quirk.

@Likaca:

You have to click on "Properties" after right-clicking the .exe file. After that you go to the compatibility tab and follow the rest of the guide.

I have now updated the guide to include the missing step.

Yep, mine is already 100% scale. My native resolution is 1440P.

@Spartan VI:

Try going into Windows settings, System, Display, Scale and Layout and change the option under "Change the size of text, apps and other items" to 100%.

This might make everything on your Desktop look too small, but try booting into the game like that. That's the only idea I have if the above didn't help.

No worky for me either. Still a blurry mess like it's upscaling 720P or something. Even when I use VSR up to 8K resolution or go all the way down to 480P, it always looks exactly the same.

didn't even know I needed this. Game is so good I finished whole thing without noticing the graphic is bad. Now I'm replaying it and it's like playing remastered game :D
