Tutorial: Installing Mods

If you want to put some cool new mods into your game, this guide is exactly for you.
We will be installing some brand new character variants into the game.

Information Overview

This guide will show you a very simple way to install any kind of a mod into your game.
I'm using my SSD disk for modding, since these mods require fast disk reading speed.
You can use normal HDD as well. If your disk reading speed is slow: Lags will happen.
Lags can cause desync in cutscenes or overall slow loading times and or slowmotion.
Most computers in todays day and age won't experience any of those issues: Hurray.
The LEGO Games from Traveller's Tales are all using basically the very same engine.
And that means one simple thing: You can put mods into all of them with a simple trick.
We can thank the guys behind the QuickBMS tool and the .DAT files extractor for that.
If you have some mods of your own, you can post them in the comments of this guide.
I'm sure that there's a lot of fans around here who would love to see some new mods.
I will be showing you how to install a cool mod from a guy named 'Tiny Tsu Sandwich'.
The mod is called 'Lego Harry Potter 1-4 Character Mod Experimental' and it's huge.
According to the creator of this mod: About 100 characters were added to the game.
Most of them are just alternative skins, but there's also a couple of brand new ones.
Some characters are missing their icons and a couple of them have identical names.
That's probably because this mod is experimental and it wasn't finished completely.
You can expect some bugs along the way, since it's such a huge unfinished mess.
Don't download it unless you really want to experiment with the files of this game.

If you follow this guide, you will receive a lot of characters, here's a couple of examples:

Step 1: Preparation

1.Crate a backup of your entire game folder. It's always better to have the backup.
Location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\LEGO Harry Potter

2.Download the QuickBMS and the TTGames Script from their official page.

3.Put the downloaded stuff into a new folder and then open the quickbms.exe
After it's opened, it will want a BMS script from you, just select the ttgames.bms

Step 2: Extraction

1.After you have inserted the ttgames.bms, It will now want to extract an archive.
Select the GAME.DAT in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\LEGO Harry Potter
2.Now it will ask you to select the output folder. Extract it directly into your game folder.
Once again it's located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\LEGO Harry Potter
3.Wait until it's finished and then repeat the same process for the remaining seven files.
They are: GAME0.dat, GAME1.dat, GAME2.dat, GAME3.dat, GAME4.dat, GAME5.dat, GAME6.dat
4.If you see the error messege from the picture below, then follow these instructions:
It's simple, just press the "A" key on your keyboard and then press the "ENTER" key.
5.Delete all of the following files from your game folder in order to proceed:
GAME.dat GAME0.dat GAME1.dat GAME2.dat GAME3.dat GAME4.dat,GAME5.dat, GAME6.dat
6.You also need to delete the __DISC__ file and the CHARTXT.FPK in the CHARS folder.
After you deleted it: You can go ahead and download the mod that you want to use.

Step 3: Modding

1.Download the Experimental Character Mod from the following website:

2.Open the downloaded archive and extract the new files into your game folder.
Just put the files from the chars folder into your chars folder and stuff into stuff folder.
3.Everything should be now done and you should now try to play your game.
If it doesn't work, repeat the steps of this guide and use your backup game files.

If you run into some kind of a problem, perhaps you did forgot to extract all of the .dat files.
Or perhaps you have forgotten to delete all of the mentioned files: Please, double-check it.

The invisible character icons aren't a bug. The modder just didn't put those icons into the mod.
And since I don't know how to edit those icons: I can't fix that issue. But everything else works.

Hi i am wondering if there is a fix to when taking polyjuice potion the audio disappears on it and the cauldrons and rain don't make sound anymore, making it feel like it's a bit quiet

game crashes on start even when i did everything you said but i can't find Quickbms version 0.9.2 on their website. I only find version 0.12 and version 0.11.0

Yes, it will work on your old save file without issues.
Press CTRL+F on the new link and search for 0.9.2

Also follow up question: Will the mod add the modded content to my already existing save file, where I have story mode finished and free mode unlocked and stuff? Or will I have to make a new save file and start from scratch again to see the modded content?
