GFX Overhaul + Reshade

This guide will help you to make your game look amazing again. Reshade adds Shaders, lights and adds ambient occlusuion. Only these few features will make your game look astonishing, well it is subjective but I find the games looking much better with reshade. This is a tutorial on how to install reshade and choose a preset.

Introduction

This tutorial works for any game out there (in theory) as an executable. Before we start though we need to find the game installation and the exe.

Section 1 - Pre-installation

1. Goto: https://reshade.me/
2. Download the ReShade_Setup_X.X.X.exe file
3. Choose the game you want to install Reshade on
4. Find the games folder
--Open steam (if it is a steam game)
--Right click the game
--Click on Properties (the last option on the mouse menu)
--Click on the tab: Local Files
--Click on Browse local files
(EA games from Origin usually are in the C:\Programfiles (x86)\Origin Games)
(World of Tanks/Warships/Warplanes and other non-steam/origin games are in C:\Games folder)
5. Choose a custom preset for you game
--Goto: https://sfx.thelazy.net/games/
--Find your game in the games list
(for me it is call of duty: Modern warfare 2)
--You click on the preset you want
(there are also screenshots if you scroll down)
--There usually is a download with the shaders and all configs with it #1
--If there is no link to a file with configs preconfigured press the Download Preset button #2
--If you pressed the download preset you'll get a txt file, open it.
--If the files look like this:

--You need to save the file as a .dll file
--Move the .dll file into the game folder

Now we are done with the preinstallation

Installation

Now we should have the setup downloaded, game folder open and the custom presets ready to go.
1. Open ReShade_Setup_X.X.X
2. Click on choose game and find the game you want to install reshade on.
3. Choose the DirectX version of the game or OpenGL
(This must be correct else the game wont start)
(If it is a steam game)
--Open up steam store and find the game you want reshade installed on
--Scroll to the System requirements section of the page
--Find the words: DX or DirectX or OpenGL
4. Now you determined what the game runs on so click on the version in the reshade installer
5. Select all GFXs
6 A. If you have downloaded custom shaders like a .zip or .rar with few folders like: reshade-shaders, Shaders, Textures
--Move the reshade-shaders folder into the game folder and replace all, if you have a reshade-folder
--Move the Shaders folder and Textures folder into the reshade-shaders folder
--If you got a .dll file with the zip folder then you go back to reshade installer and click on the button Edit Reshade settings
--Add click on the ... next to Preset
--Choose the .dll file which should be the preset
--Press okay
Now you can exit and play the game
6 B. If you just downloaded the .txt file and checked that it looks like code
--Move the .dll file into the game folder
--Click on the Edit Reshade settings
--Add click on the ... next to Preset
--Choose the .dll file which should be the preset
--Press okay
Now you can exit reshade installer and play the game

SweetFX

Some shader mods need Sweetfx installed and activated.

1. Goto: https://sfx.thelazy.net/downloads/
2. Download the preferred sweetFX installer
3. Add your game that you want sweetfx installed on
4. Find the .exe of the game
5. Click on the game after adding it to the list
6. Activate or add SweetFX
7. Have the SweetFX txt file in the game folder so sweetfx can use the configs

My Preset

Settings that I activate in every game:
Tonemap
HDR
Colourfulness
TriDither
PPFX Bloom
FXAA
PPFX SSDO
LumaSharpen
SMAA

When you install Reshade and start the game it will show you in the top corner what button to press.

Well it seems I had no such home button.

The game does not need to support it. When you install Reshade you will be asked to download the fx you want and then ingame you can press Home button and then press next on the tutorial to be able to choose the Fx

So how to do it in case of Jazz Jackrabbit 3D if render settings had no additional setups in case of reshade support?

Reshade supports almost all games that do not have Anti cheat preventing it
