Farming cave hoppers for exp and cash (early game) [OUTDATED]
By MarekX (cz)
Very easy guide with a tactic usefull when you need a little cash or experience boost early in the game. For example when you are stuck with the Gorsky's quest in GMS Compound (low lvl, etc.)

Farming cave hoppers
Underrail can be pretty hard at the early stages and there is not much room to get more exp and cash so one can easily get stuck on some quest or in a passage, where the enemy is just too strong for your current level. This guide can help you get over it by farming cave hoppers.

Cave hoppers are those small neutral creatures, that run around Mushroom Cove area. You can farm them pretty easily for exp (about 8 xp on level 4 for each - it is possible to obtain about 500 exp in 10 minutes) and they also drop meat, pelts and occasionaly an adrenaline gland, which you can eitjer use in crafting or sell. This farming is viable up to level five, which is the level you should have for not having too much dificulty doing the GSM Compound quest. The only condition for this to work is, that you must be able to kill single Azuridae (just engage it up close or push it in a corner and you should be able to kill it easily).

The bugged cavehopper hole

The best place for farming them is in the furthest north-western area of Mushroom cove (the Big Brat quest to capture 3 cave hoppers will lead you here). There is a locked compound of some sort which can not be lockpicked and there is an exit leading to the caves and than Junkyard. The cave hoppers hole is bugged here and the hoppers don't disappear inside. Instead they just stand in one place and don't run anywhere. Therefore you can just punch them with your fists (wasting ammo or durabilityy of your meelee weapon is really unnecessary; you need to select the attack action manualy from the action bar to attack a netural character - default slot 1). After you kill each group, end combat, wait for few seconds and more hoppers will spawn for you to kill.

And that is pretty much it, just farm until you reach next level you need or have enough pelts and glands to sell.

This tactics should also work once the bug is fixed. However it will be a little bit more time consuming.

I haven't had any trouble with this game so far, but then again I found a guide that told me what the cardinal directions relative to SGS station is, so that helped tremendously, also, early game is easy if you focus psionics and learn the 2 free powers after taking the red pill (the quest for quinton is as easy as killing 1 rathound for a free psi power, and the other is as simple as killing a weak psi beetle. By the time I got to level 4, I have 4 psi abilities that can easily ruin most opponents days. I haven't needed to farm at all.

I highly recommend playing with the "Oddities" xp option. No farming possible, curiously enough, means no farming necessary.

@Druterium, are you saying that the conversion rate FROM Stygian coins TO SGS credits *is* favorable? So I should just sell all my ♥♥♥♥ at the junkyard?

Go to the bottome level of the station and there is a big gate with guard standing behind a fence - click on him and he will open the gate for you.

How do I get to mushroom cove? I'm a bit lost since there isn't a map (or, at least, I can't find one).

Another thing to mention is that every in-game hour you can buy up to 15 "dog crates" from Brett, capture hoppers with them and then sell them back at a profit. Quick way to make a little side cash :)

Note: Since Junkyard is nearby it's probably better to sell the hoppers there, as the conversion rate of SGS credits to Stygian coins is unfavorable.
