The Curse of Monkey Island - Demo Version Walkthrough

In this Guide, I will walk you through on the Demo Version of The Curse of Monkey Island & show you how to order the retail version.

(NOTE: This is the Last Monkey Island game to use the SCUMM Engine.)

1. Retail Story - Midus Curse Returns!

Guybrush finds himself at sea floating on a bumper car. He ends up at Plunder Island where Elaine and LeChuck are battling. The battle ends with LeChuck being killed, but of course that doesn't stop him. Afterwards, Guybrush proposes to Elaine with a big diamond ing he found in LeChuck treasure hold. Elaine accepts, but as soon as she puts on the ring Guybrush learns that it is cursed and Elaine turns into a gold statue. Guybrush has to find a way to undo the curse on Elaine, but at the same time he has to battle LeChuck, who has returned from the dead and wants to marry Elaine.

2. ScummVM Basic Commands

Here are the Basic Commands for the ScummVM UI:
F5 = Options Menu (Volume Contol, Show Text/Speech/Both, Subtitle Speed)
. = Skip Line of Text
Esc = Skip Cutscene
Spacebar = Pause Game
F8 = Restart Game
Ctrl 0-9 = Load Game Save State 0-9
Alt 0-9 = Save Game State 0-9
Alt X/Ctrl Z = Quit
Alt + Enter = Fullscreen/Windowed Mode

3. In-Game Actions

Actions
Eyes: Examine Object
Hands: Pick up useful Object
Mouth: Talk to Someone
Right Click: Inventory

4. Walkthroughs - Demo Version

After the intro you'll find yourself captive in LeChuck's ship. Start talking to the small pirate and you'll realize that it's your old friend Wally. Make him see that he is no good as a pirate and he will soon drop his hook and start crying. Pick up the plastic hook from the floor and pick up the ramrod from the wall. Use the cannon and sink the four boats full of skeletons. Afterwards, look out the window and combine the ramrod with the plastic hook to make a Gaff. Use the Gaff to pick up the debris in the water. Go back inside.

Use the cutlass you just picked up to cut the cannon restraint rope. Now fire the canon. Since there is no rope to restrain it, it backfires into Guybrush and through the door to the treasure room. The rumble causes LeChuck to drop the voodoo canon ball which kills him & ends the Demo. Afterwards, the Demo restarts.

5. Game Items

Ramrod: Used with Plastic Hook to get a Gaff.

Helium Balloons: Use with Paperweight when in quicksand to make a neutrally buoyant rock in the Retail Version.

Plastic Hook: Used with Ramrod to get a Gaff.

Gaff: Used to get the Skeleton Arm floating in the water. Also used to knock Murray's Head into the Water.

Skeleton Arm: Used to grab the Gravedigger's Lantern. Also, use to taunt Murray in the Retail Version.

Pirate Literature/"Piracy: The LeChuck Way": Obtained from Wally.
Chapter 1, How to get more than 15 men on a dead man's chest.

7. Secret - Full CD-ROM Install (ScummVM)

Want to play The Curse of Monkey Island the Demo Version without any LucasArts Discs? Then I'll show you how to do so.

First, download the ScummVM Emulator here:
http://scummvm.org/

Then, follow these steps:
1. Create a new Folder on your C Drive and Name it: "LucasArts".

5. Create a New Folder in your LucasArts Folder, then Name it "CurseMIDemo".

6. Copy the The Curse of Monkey Island Demo Files to your CurseMIDemo Folder on your Hard Drive.

7. Run the ScummVM Installer & follow the instructions shown.

8. DON'T Open The Curse of Monkey Island the Demo Version just yet. If you're using a newer computer, you'll need to use the ScummVM Emulator.

9. Open ScummVM
10. Select "ADD GAME"

11. Find the folder where The Curse of Monkey Island the Demo Version is Installed on your Hard Drive, select CHOOSE & then select OK. After that, the game should be added to the ScummVM Library.

12. Highlight The Curse of Monkey Island the Demo Version,
then Double-Click on it to start or select START.

13. Enjoy

14. If you like playing The Curse of Monkey Island the Demo Version on ScummVM, go buy yourself a copy of The Curse of Monkey Island, Retail or Digital Download Versions.

NOTE: The Curse of Monkey Island comes on a 2-Disc CD-ROM when you buy a direct Copy of the game. So you need to copy the game files from Both Discs in order for it to run properly.
