unfortunately couldn't get rtss to work but this was quick, easy to follow and very comprehensive

@Subliminal as strange as it sounds you may want to try moving the installation of the game to a different folder. For some strange reason that has fixed issues for me in the past. It could be because the directory is in the program files (x86) folder, it could be something different.

@ACE After removing the compatibility change the issue persists. I cannot launch Starwars Rogue Squadron as it is still requesting a disc/requesting I install directX, which I do have.

@subliminal IIRC that problem can occur when setting the game to run in windows 98 mode, but that is only temporary and is done to allow you to configure your controller if you are using one.

aftrer following this guide the game now requests I insert the CD, which I don't have because I have it through steam... how do I fix this?

It roughly worked for me, it's much more playable now : The camera doesn't go back and forth and the fighters stopped swaying. Thank you for the guide.
