Arcane Worlds released on Steam Early Access
Groupees spotlight
A game inspired by classic Magic Carpet, with modern graphics and features. You play as a sorcerer, exploring mysterious worlds, changing them, discovering ancient secrets, creating new spells, fighting creatures and other mages, building and destroying as you please.

The game is currently in alpha, with a free demo[] available.

  • Dynamic, procedurally generated worlds.
  • Water and lava simulation.
  • Swarms of creatures.
  • Web of worlds to explore and change, with global goals and consequences (not in alpha).
  • PvP multi-player mode (not in alpha).
  • Sandbox mode (possible in alpha with cheats).

Minimum system requirements:
  • System: Windows XP or newer, DirectX 9.0c
  • Graphics: shaders 3.0 or better (NVidia 6600+, ATI X1300+)
  • Processor: with SSE2 support (Pentium 4+, Athlon 64+)
Windows only for now (but runs fine under Wine), Linux and Mac ports are planned for later.

look at the reviews for it, they tell you all you need to know, there is nothing to do in it even for an early access.

@Typhus Well, it seems this game isn't for you then. It's more about wonder of exploration and discovery than hardship of survival.

This seems disappointing. It's too easy. Look at the videos; the monsters hardly touch him, lava can't hurt him, and he flies. Forever. I don't want a sandbox where I crush everything beneath me as soon as I can see it. I want to fight for every last yard, winning only after coming within a hair's breadth of death and only by merit of skill and hard-won strength. I don't want to fly everywhere, I want my magic to be imperative to my survival--where the difference between a fire spell and an ice spell is the difference between eating a rotten rat and having a full, content stomach. And if I get near lava, if I even get close enough to breathe its fumes, I want to be incinerated from the heat. I'm made of flesh and bone, not chrome and silver. The best games tell a tale of a man winning, yes, but against all odds, not by merit of his birth-power.

This game has great potential, all it needs is a set of goals for the player to do other than that its a pretty good game for such an early stage of development.

Looks promising!
