How to set up a controller for Mafia so you can actually aim with the right stick

A guide on how to set up a controller for Mafia. 3rd party programs will be required.

Step 1. Install JoyToKey

You will need the program JoyToKey to make a controller work with Mafia. The issue the game has in my experiments is that you cannot properly set a right analog stick for aiming, you can only really do one axis.

Step 2. Setting up JoyToKey so you can aim with the right analog stick in Mafia

I am using an Xbox One controller for this but PS4 and others I imagine work the same way.

Open JoyToKey obviously

Click Options in the right menu next to Joystick 1/Joystick 2

Go to Stick/POV and click the drop down and select SHOW ALL AXES

Click Joystick 1. There will be a giant list of buttons. We are looking for Stick2. This is the right analog stick and what we need for aiming in game. We won't be messing with anything else except commands labeled as Stick2

NOTE: When I say "Left arrow" I am referring to the arrows denoting the directions that are actually on the screen and not to press the left arrow key.

Click Stick2: Left Arrow. Now click the Mouse tab on the top. Now adjust the CURSOR MOVEMENT slider to the left to -45 degrees. This enables the left input on the stick to move the mouse cursor left. Now click OK. The window will close

We are going to do this step for each stick direction. Up, Down, Left, and Right. Make sure to press OK after you do each of these.
Stick 2: Left Arrow > Mouse Tab > -45 degrees to the left
Stick 2: Right arrow > Mouse Tab > 45 degrees to the right
Stick 2: Up arrow > Mouse Tab > Adjust the vertical slider under Cursor Movement 45 degrees upwards
Stick 2: Down arrow > Mouse Tab >Adjust the vertical slider under Cursor movement -45 degrees downwards

You may need to exit and reopen JoyToKey to see the effects. Moving the right analog stick should now move the mouse cursor on your screen ingame and on desktop.

If you want higher speed then simply adjust each degree to a higher number than 45. I personally find 45 to work well for the game and myself, but if you want to change values feel free.


You are done. When you set your controller binds in Mafia you should set each binding like you would a controller in any game. EXCEPT leave the "Aim" command as the default Mouse one. You can use the right analog stick to aim, as it is emulating the mouse.

@TJ - I have just downloaded JoyToKey and there is no longer an option for CURSER MOVEMENT. I am desperate to play this game - any support greatly appreciated.
