Hello and welcome! One of the most widely-requested mods for a game tends to be a Faction Unlocker, so - here we go!

This is Vandy's Faction Unlocker, and it certainly unlocks factions, in a Vandy-ly fashion. Every faction that's present on the world map on turn 1 - barring the Han Empire and the actual Yellow Turban Rebellion - is unlocked and fully functional.

This mod is setup in such a way to make it incredibly mod-friendly, in big part due to some of the good magic that CA did with the 3K data systems. I've laid down the foundation for frontend stuff, but I haven't added anything for fear of A) spending too much time on it and B) becoming incompatible with smaller overhaul mods, which seek to change up how one of the minor factions play.

This mod is a startpos mod, which means it's entirely incompatible with any other mod that edits the startpos.esf file. Only one can be loaded at a time.

Aside from that, this mod should be fully compatible with everything else out there.

The Dynasty Warriors 9 Mod edits the startpos, do not use both that and this mod at once, it will crash.

Known Issues

Some characters have different models on frontend and in campaign. Some weird design choices were made for some characters, like Zhang Chao, who's half Strategist and half Sentinel in the database. I'm having trouble altering and fixing it.


If this mod simply isn't working or loading, verify the following:
- This mod is subscribed to on Steam
- This mod is enabled in the CA Mod Manager
- The load order has not been altered in the CA Mod Manager
- There is no "user.script.txt" file in "Z:/Users/[UserName]/AppData/Roaming/The Creative Assembly/ThreeKingdoms/scripts". If you added one before the Workshop was posted, you need to remove it - the game is reading from the mods specified in that file, and is ignoring the ones in the Mod Manager.

Planned Updates

I don't plan on working too hard on this mod, as I have this designed as more of a framework and foundation than a fully-independent overhaul. There are other projects I'm working on, to which I'd like to give more focus. That said, if there are bugs, missing features, or the like, I will add them.

If you're a modder, and would like to add a faction to the unlocker, reach out to me. Thanks to how most of the stuff is setup, I should be able to add faction data into the unlocker without adding any frontend dummy text or the like.

Only mod enabled, no custom pack files, and it doesn't work. Do we need to disable DLC?

UPDATE - Yellow Turban Rebellion and the Han Empire are both added as playable! No balance changes made to either - both will be exceptionally difficult, have fun!

I'll mess around today with getting the YTR and Han Empire playable. I was initially worried about them being buggy and not having time to finish them, there's probably a lot of bugs associated with playing as them

Nevermind, looking around someone already made a sub mod for it, but they have a bunch of rebalance stuff added to it that I would prefer not to have so it less than ideal. I prefer to have as close to vanilla with a faction unlocker as possible.

Was there a technical reason to not include the Han and and Rebellion factions or was it because you felt that the factions would be too weird/gamey/unbalanced to be playable? If it was not for technical reasons please reconsider, as playing as those two were the reason I came here. You don't have to make any changes to make them more playable, (like adding the ability for them to muster new armies or other restrictions they might have). Also if you don't know how to give the Rebellion faction only to players that have the DLC and you are concerned with being banned for that, that is also a good reason.
