a guide to getting biome keys in simple and easy ways

introduction

in this guide i will be showing the ways to get biome keys in terraria and easy ways to get them.

WARNING: the time to get biome keys take a very long time depending on your progress in the game.

requirements and preperation

to actually get a biome key you have to unlock hardmode, to use it you have to defeat plantera, it seems a bit hard but thats the easy part.

to prepare for getting one you should have ethier the terria blade and turtle armour, chlorphyte armor and clouphyte shotbow or chlorhyte armour and crystal serpent.

the summoner class is optional but i recommend it for the AFK farm.

finnaly make sure you know the key your after, its best to go for one but you can go as many as you want.

Jungle key

the Jungle key is simple and easy, a good way to get it is slaughter everything in the jungle temple but usualy thats why people need the key. a other good way is by going at night and fight for a while
and if there is not many enemies place water candles so more will spawn, the jungle usualy has a plethora of enemies so chances are this wont be a issue.

frozen key

the frozen key is very similar to the jungle key, the frozen key takes place (as the name suggest) snow biome. the snow biome is very easy i suggest coming during a blizzard or at night with lots of water candels. the enemies are a bit scarce but weak in the snow biome. thats why coming during a blizzard or with water candels are good options.

crimson/corruption

the corruption and crimson keys are slightly hard to get (and yet the most important!!!). for crimson enemies tend to stay to the ground and small amounts in the sky, and for corruption enemies tend to stick to the sky and few to the ground. so in this case i recomend a flying mount for crimson and a fast land mount for corruption. corruption might be faster due to enemies in the corruption are weaker and the crimson in stronger.

hallowed key

the hallowed key is the last key and should be easy. the pixies are very common in the hallowed so should be no problem to target them. the night does not effect the hallow that much so best case is to use water candels.

biome chests

the biome chests are found in the dungeon and can be unlocked using the biome keys after plantera. each key has its specific chest with its specific item.

• the jungle gives the pirhana gun
  
• the frozen gives the staff of frost hydra
  
• the corruption gives the scourage or the corruptor
  
• the crimson gives the vampire knives
  
• the hallow give the rainbow gun

biome key farm

the biome keys have a %0.04 chance of dropping so it seems it will take quite a while to get one. to get around this people have made biome key AFK farms. two good ways to do this is to make a pit to trap enemies inside and box/platform over it for the player to sit on and ethier have a contraption to launch spears, spike balls, ect when a enemy falls in. or have summoner gear on and have minions fight for you. rember to check in on it though frequintly to make sure if the key had dropped or not. when you see it pick it up as soon as possible before it despawns.

I got a frozen key drop before I killed Planterra, and I cannot open the Frozen chest with it. The item has no value when I talk to merchants, and the descreiption is " Frozen Key , it has been cursed by a powerful jungle creature" does this mean for it to work I need to kill Plantera?
