How to Upload Custom Screenshots
Autorstwa: Wirdjos
This guide will show you how to add screenshots from games that don't support the in-game Steam overlay option to your Steam profile.

Skip down to the SteaScree section if you want to use an independent program to automate the process.

Find/Create a Screenshot Folder
First, you'll have to find or create the screenshot folder for the game in question. In order to do this, you'll need the game's ID number. It can be found in the url for the game's store page. This game's ID is 281450.

Next, you'll have to locate Steam's screenshot folder. The easiest way I've found to do this is to go to the app's View menu, select Recordings & Screenshots, and find a game that you've already taken a screenshot for using the in-game overlay. There you can right click on a screenshot from that game to find an option to show on disk.

The "remote" folder in that path contains all of your game's screenshot folders listed by GameID. Find the folder that corresponds to your game's ID or, failing that, create a new folder and name it your game's ID. If you had to create a new folder for your game, as you would for Disciples: Sacred Lands Gold, be sure to create a folder inside that new folder named "screenshots" and inside that new screenshots folder create another new folder named "thumbnails".

Formatting the Screenshot
Take your screenshot using your preferred method. I used my keyboard's Prt Sc button and pasted the image into Paint.Net, but any paint program would have worked as well. Just make sure the image is in the jpeg format.

Name your image using Steam's naming convention. As of the writing of this guide, that convention is the year followed by the month, then the day and the time in 24-hour format up to the second the shot was taken. Then an underscore and a digit denoting the number of the screenshot(1 for the first, 2 the second etc). It should come out as YYYYMMDDHHMMSS_1.

Copy the image and add "_vr" to the end of its name. This extra file seems to allow the screenshot to be uploaded to the Steam cloud on some games. If you don't include it, you'll get an error message when trying to upload the screenshot.

Add a second copy of the YYYYMMDDHHMMSS_1 file to the thumbnails folder and, using your print program of choice, resize the image to 200x125. This will allow the screenshot manager show you a preview thumbnail of the screenshot you're trying to upload.

Uploading the New Screenshot
Once you've added your new screenshot to the game's folder in the correct format, you'll need to restart Steam for it be recognized. From there, you should be able find your new screenshot in the game's library page or in the screenshot manager. Click on the screenshot to open an individual window, click the Share button under the image, and select Share on Steam to add a caption if you like before adding your new custom screenshot to your profile.

SteaScree: Steam Screenshot Uploader
Thanks to Nevermind for pointing out this automated non-Steam uploader!

https://steascree.download/

Download SteaScree from the link above, then simply add the screenshots you want to upload and let SteaScree handle the rest. It even automates the process of finding the game's ID!

I've gotten this method to work as of 3/28/2025. I finally replaced the old images and updated the text to reflect interface changes post-Recordings & Screenshots update.

It seems like you can now right click on a screenshot to get the "Show on disk" option. Everything else seems to work the same. If this is working the same for other people, I'll add an edit to the relevant section with the new interface.

This is outdated. There are Recordings & Screenshots with totally different user interface and missing Show on Disc button. I don't understand why Steam change those UI. Whole Steam app is unfriendly and notintuitive.
