Guide for low Morale

Guide
When morale drops to 0% one of 3 events will trigger and jump to 33% afterwards:

-someone proves to be a seawolf (green pipe)
-someone has a weak heart, faints and needs medical attention but atleast is quiet. (broken heart)
-someone panics and makes noise. (pumping heart)

Sort the guys out who panic when docked in harbour. You can do this at the recruitment area. You will have a much better time when on low morale and dont risk getting spotted when destroyers are circling above you.

Doing alarm-drills when not under enemy fire will let you drop morale and check your crew without risk before going right beneath an armed convoy.
Dont be afraid of staying underwater alarmed until you run out of air.
You can trigger alarm state yourself by just crash diving from "deck awash" or "emerged" state.

and dont forget to give your seadogs a proper cap!

If you want, you can download the mod " ALAAAAARM! " and when you switch the lights you can turn it on.

Game is still has bugs in Alarm state. It can be triggered simply by looking at an unarmed contact. When going for an intercept just pull down periscope. Blind the crew and there is no moral effect at all.

I've found out there's a huge difference in discipline dropping between a crew fresh from vacation, and one that isn't rested. That +5 vacation perk really helps out when the destroyers are circling overhead. (I've also just unlocked the leader perk of being able to knock out punch a panicking faint heart.) If I know I'm about to go into a danger area like the Scapa Flow mission I shut off engines, get everyone rested and full morale by a combination of playing cards, playing music on the radio, plus I have my 'zwei-uns' (XO) with culinary skill in the galley. A combo of this rapidly brings morale up and in I go. Somehow my XO was actually automatically in the galley during an alert....glitch apparently because I couldn't put him back after I accidentally pulled him off.

@T. I'm all for the RP and atmosphere aspect of doing drills. I play Silent Hunter 5 with a mod that makes it so you have to physically move to each station to use them instead of the instant access you get with hotkeys, just to make it that much more realistic and atmospheric. I had a whole paragraph typed up for RPers in my previous response but had to cut it because of the character limit.

I just wanted to caution those who are prone to take it too far and become ultimately disappointed in the experience because of it. I'm not trying to criticize your guide or undermine it, it's a good guide. I'm sorry if my response seemed harsh or criticizing.

I am hoping in the future the devs add more reactions to the simulated stress in the game. Instead of one positive and two negatives, you would have a chance at many positives of different types and severities, as well as negatives, maybe with a sprinkling of gray area reactions.

@Savage117

while you got a point i have to say that i actually had fun doing those alarmdrills. especially when game was fresh and new for me.
it was a mix of RP and expiriencing how the boat and crew handles underwater. i did some tests how deep i could go and so on and how to handle leaks. I actually started to write something into the logbook.

on the other hand when you get chased by vessels with active sonar and are really hiding under them, those guys who cry are loud. they make 96db noise which is way too much.
having someone faint out from time to time i dont care.

and besides that iam not a real fan of playing the sim with my crew.
but each to their own.

@Nicrolyte I am unfortunately unable to get that to do anything in the game currently, clicking on it does nothing for me. But it is nice to see it in the game, makes me think the devs are going to get it working properly and we can do drills without diving to deeper depths.

@T. Thank you for the guide, but I would like to caution people on doing the drills in order to weed out the non-sea wolves. If you have a full crew of Sea Wolves the discipline system becomes entirely superfluous you will no longer have to manage your crew, and you can keep them on station at all times with no penalty. IMO this detracts from the management aspect of the game and ultimately the fun of it.

I suggest just finding the Sea Wolves through playing the game without drills. It is very likely to be changed in future patches. But you guys and gals do your own thing, just thought id let you know.
