The Battle of Palmdale, 1956

Deskripsi
This scenario is a recreation of the 1956 "Battle" of Palmdale.
On this day in 1956, an F6F-5K Target Drone was launched from Naval Air Station Point Mugu for a weapon test. Shortly after take off, the drone stopped responding to radio control signals, and therefore became a runaway airplane.
Point Mugu had no avaliable assets to shoot it down, so the nearby Oxnard Air Force Base was called to send up fighters to stop the runaway drone. A pair of F-89D Scorpions were dispatched.......

Historical Outcome:
The F-89Ds, armed only with 'Mighty Mouse' Rockets, were unable to shoot down the drone despite expending all ordinance. The drone eventually ran out of fuel and crashed near Palmdale, giving the incident it's name, after flying all over Los Angeles and Ventura Counties.
Can you succeed where the real pilots failed?

NOTE:
The scenario will load with a warning message about an area validation. That relates to the flight path of the drone. Ignore the warning as it does not affect the scenario play.

Yeah you have to manually launch the F-89s and control them. In the real incident the Pilots had to find the drone on their own, so no ground based radars to help!

Third time is a charm. Found the sucker NW of Burbank flying west and basted it.

OK, figured out that an Air Intercept mission won't work, have to set up an anti-air patrol to get them to launch. But then, they launch but can't seem to find the drone. i did change their Scorpion's radar to active.

Tried playing this but the Scorpions just sat on the ground and I kept getting this message: "Mission Drone Killers, aircraft type F-89D Scorpion with loadout Mighty Mouse Rocket (Mk40) based on Oxnard Air Force Base cannot launch! Reason: Contacts are neutral."

I changed to weapons free on the F-89s, same message.
