The Pit
Let's start with the classics, everyone knows this arena!

That's how she looked in the very first part of Mortal Kombat:

The Pit lies on Shang Tsung's Island. Kombatants fight on a bridge suspended over a sea of steel spikes, which is the source of death for anyone unlucky enough to be knocked off. Shang Tsung had apparently grown frustrated by the number of people who managed to actually survive the spike-laden floor, and thus employed his loyal bodyguard, Reptile to ensure that none walk away alive as he awaits for them at the bottom.

Mortal Kombat II:

The arena consists of one long bridge at nightfall as well as a second bridge far in the backround. On the original second bridge, two kombatants, Blaze and Hornbuckle face one another (though they only ever remain static). Like its predecessor, players can perform a Stage Fatality on Pit II. The opponent can knocked off only to fall and land on the hard, flat earth. Unlike the previous Pit incarnation, the player is required to input a unique combination depending on the character.

Mortal Kombat 3:

This Pit (also called Shao Kahn's Pit) is also Shao Kahn's other secret throne room located inside his fortress. The stage consists of a rather narrow bridge with small spike protruding from its sides. In the background are soul cages containing the captured souls of Earthrealm when Shao Kahn's invasion began, especially the souls of the highest power, such as Earthrealm's leaders as these spirits are protected inside these cages from ever being stolen. On the right end of the arena is Shao Kahn's throne, where the left end is the entrance. Like its predecessors, the Pit III possesses a Stage Fatality where the opponent is knocked off the bridge where a row of spinning blades will rip them to shreds. Just like the Pit II, the player again had to input a special button sequence, different for every character.

(More of this arena did not appear until MK9)

Mortal Kombat 9:

No special changes, looks like an arena from Mortal Kombat II

Mortal Kombat X:

The arena consists of one long bridge at nightfall as well as a second bridge far in the background. On the second bridge, two kombatants, Blaze and Rain face one another. Like its predecessors, players can perform a Stage Fatality on Pit X. The opponent can be knocked off to fall and land on deadly spikes. Like the previous Pit incarnation, the player is required to input a unique combination depending on the character to access the Stage Fatality.

Mortal Kombat 11:

Living/Dead Forest
The Living Forest is an arena located in Outworld. This forest has been haunted for centuries. The trees themselves are sentient, some with faces that groan and roar. Some of the trees are hungry, and unsuspecting travelers may find themselves ensnared in their treacherous branches, and become devoured. In turn, those consumed become part of the forest.

Mortal kombat II:

In Mortal Kombat II can be seen lurking in the background, occasionally poking their heads from around the trees.

Mortal Kombat 4:

Really scary?

Mortal Kombat 9:

Now here it was possible to feed the opponent to a harmless tree!

Mortal Kombat X:

As you can see the forest is no longer "living". Now this place is called "Dead Woods"

Mortal Kombat 11:

Shang Tsung's Throne Room
The Throne Room is also known as Shang Tsung's Throne Room located at his old island fortress within the Lost Sea in Earthrealm and first appeared in Mortal Kombat.

Mortal Kombat 1:

It is where the shapeshifting sorcerer himself sits on his throne in his island domain and watched as the kombatants fight each other for his amusement in the first MK game. As the fighters move about the stage, he turns his head to watch them, and applauds whoever wins a match.

Mortal Kombat 9:

No special changes.

Mortal Kombat 11:

Shang Tsung's Courtyard
The Courtyard is located on Shang Tsung's Island in the Lost Sea. Here, tournaments (including Mortal Kombat tournaments matches) are held where shaolin monks can spectate. The Courtyard is patrolled by Shang Tsung's finest guards.

Mortal Kombat 1:

In the games, the Courtyard debuted in Mortal Kombat. An aged Shang Tsung sits on his throne and watches the fights below. Monk students also watch and applaud after every round is finished. This is reminiscent of the tournament courtyard from the movie set of Enter the Dragon, a famous martial arts film starring Bruce Lee, a production that inspired Mortal Kombat, especially on Shang Tsung's Island, the Shaolin Tournament and the character of Liu Kang.

Good stuff, but a few mistakes on Living Forest. It also appears in Deception. LF, Dead Woods and Woods in MK11 Krypt are 3 different things. Dead Woods is in Earthrealm, Living Forest is in Outworld, and Woods in MK11 are what's left of Shang Tsung's Gardens from MK9. Also Courtyard appeared in MK Trilogy with Kahn replacing Shang on the throne.
