Enabling uncompressed copies
First of all, Steam allows us to save an extra copy of all our screenshots, but we have to enable the option first.

  • Go to Steam Settings.
  • In-Game Tab
  • Check "Save an uncompressed copy"

Choosing a folder
Now each time we take a screenshot Steam is going to create 2 copies, but first let's choose an easy-to-find folder to save the screenshots.

In the same tab we were earlier, let's click in the Screenshot folder button and choose a folder.

Replacing the compressed copy
When we take a screenshot we can open its location by simply clicking a button:

We can paste the uncompressed copy and rename it with the exact same name in the folder, even though if we restart Steam and recognizes the uncompressed copy, we can't upload it yet.

Now we have 2 files, the compressed (jpg) copy and the uncompressed one (png), for us to be able to upload it, we have to open the png copy in Photoshop and save it to jpg at full quality and replace it.

Upload the uncompressed copy
Just open the screenshot tab and upload your screenshot, you don't need to restart Steam.

It's a shame we can't upload the png copy itself and instead we have to convert it to jpg, but I can assure you that there is not much difference.

Adressing this false title - steam doesn't allow uploading uncompressed image copies. The method described in this guide is fine and gives a bit less compressed jpg image from the one that steam makes it self, I use it myself.
And yes steam doesn't allow uploading png's because they take hell of a lot space, and a properly compressed 4k image looks fine enough anyway.

I'd like to add that you can also give the uncompressed jpg a different name in the Steam screenshot folder, although then you'll have to restart Steam for the newly added shots to show up. In case you don't want to have your shots to have nonsensical names on your drive and not have a duplicate in another folder just for proper archivation.
Am doing this whenever using sweetfx / reshade.

@Pat's Cat Yeah, I think they only allows us to upload the jpg version to save bandwidth but since they give us +15GB for screenshots that's kinda useless now.

I had no idea Steam would save two different versions, thanks for pointing that out. Rest of the procedure I already knew, but that bit was really useful.
