As it was mentioned in the comments, just to explain why the bonus 48 is there. It is the number 0 in ASCII, so each binary number is the ASCII character number for how many parts the shape has. 50 in ascii = 2, match with 2 sided shape etc.

A good example is "Please Don't Touch Anything 3D" where one of the codes for the endings is shown in the blacklight, or having a binary booklet above one of the tape recorder thingys.

Honestly, they should've thrown in a binary booklet as an item or something, because I feel like if you have a game, you should make it so you can complete everything without outside knowledge, other than the basic "2+2=4" and stuff like that.
