Part 1
Step 1: Gather wood.

The first steps are real easy. Grab the axe located in your hotbar by either scrolling your mousewheel or by pressing the numbers on your keyboard. Now, find a tree (preferably a high one) and chop it down. You should bare in mind that even though it looks like Minecraft, there are alot of differences. For example, trees don’t fly. Meaning that if you chop the very lowest point of the tree i twill explode in a shower of wood.

Step 2: Create a house.

Now that you’ve gathered wood you should build a house. If you don’t create a house before sundown, you will be in quite alot of trouble. Because of that fact, it would be smart to start of with a small house (6 high and 10 wide). Find a good flat piece of ground with no trees on it whatsoever. Now that you’ve found your sweet spot, drag the wood in your hotbar i fit isn’t the case to then select it, the same as you did with the axe. Building and crafting is relatively similar to Minecraft, altough there quite some different things to it. Place down a block of wood by hovering over the bit where you want it to be placed and clicking the left mouse button. The block needs to be next to another block, just like Minecraft, in order to be able to place it. And keep in mind that if you build your house directly onto the ground you will have to jump to get through the door. If you don’t feel like doing that every single time you should select the picaxe in your hotbar and smash out the block that you want to replace with your floor. Create a floor, walls and a roof so, that it is sealed. If you wish to climb over things or position yourself higher just place down wood that much higher that you just can jump onto it, and jump onto it. If you need to get even higher, jump as high as you can until you’ve reached you highest point and quickly place a block beneath you. You will have to break it down though afterwards. Now that you’ve made your house, you should make the background walls, otherwise some nasty things may happen… Press escape to open up your inventory. If you’ve gathered enough wood, you should see some things at the bottom of the screen. These are the things that you can craft at the moment. You can also grab yourself an item and when talking to your Guide (the guy who spawned with you, right clicking) and pressing Crafting you can put the Item in the empty block. He will then tell you what you can craft with that Item, which is handy. You will need a workingbench, chairs (which will come later) and torches. You should have some gel from killed slimes, you better have. With wood and gel you can make torches and with the right quantity of wood you can also make a working bench, so make them and put them down wherever you think it fits. Now, when you stand real close to the workingbench and you press escape again and you look at your crafting system you should see a whole lot of items, if you have enough wood that is. Chop down 3 pieced of wood on either side in the walls and place you crafted doors in them. Now create woodwalls, select them, and start placing them in the background of your house.Make sure that there are no holes, black holes nor blacklines. If you do, make sure to try and place a woodwall in there. You know that you’ve done evrything right when the Guide stays in your house at night. Also, pickup the fallenstars that fall at night. Combine 10 of them to make a Mana Star that’ll give you mana! The more stars you consume, the more overal Mana you’ll get. Mana poweres certain items like the Vilethorn and Spacegun, and recharges back when standing still.

Step 3: Gather resources

Now that you have a house and are safe at night you should go and explore the world. Don’t head off too far from your house though, since often times you can forget the time and end up fighting your way back home in the dark with a small chance of survival. It would be ideal to find a big cave that leads you a whole way down into to ground for a very long time. You will have to grab blocks and replace blocks. Do this by grabbing your picaxe and smashing blocks. You will automaticly pick them up if you are close enough and if there’s space in your inventory. Try descending into big, dark pits by creating stairs with blocks and putting down torches where it get dark. You are looking for ores. Ores look a bit like stone, but shine and have a different color. Bronze (lowest tier) looks a bit brown with red. Iron has a light grey color. Silver has an even brighter grey color. And gold (highest tier possible to mine yet), yeah, you know what gold looks like. The ultimate goal would be to get a full golden suit with a golden broadsword, picaxe and... axe?... not so much. You should remember to break any pots that you see and loot any chests that you see. You should also take the chests with you by creating a hammer. Hammers can be made out of ... at a... The chest has te be empty though to be able to break it. Having your character’s difficulty set to Easy will help you.. ALOT, since dying in the caves is probably the 1# cause of death, and I don’t think you want to go all the way down to grab your stuff in time (Normal), nor start all over again (Hard). Now, grab as much ore as you possibly can and also take the hearts that you find with you. They can, when selected and by then pressing left mouse button be activated. This will make the heart dissapear forever, but give you + 20 health points permanetly. When you’re done mining, backtrack your way to the top, or use a magic mirror if you’ve found one in chest (they’re not so hard to find). You should have a good amount of stone at the moment. You can craft a furnance out of that wood at your workbench. Place it down in your house and just like with the workbench: standing next to it will give you more options to create things. Found a good amount of ore (30-40 pieces of one type) you can make bars from them at the furnance. Now, if you’ve got 5 iron bars you can (and should) craft an anvil. It functions as yet another craftingstation. The anvil will give you the ability to craft armor, swords, picaxes, etc. Basicly anything that can be crafted from bars. What you can do as well is buy an anvil from the Merchant (more later) that will spawn if you have 50 silver coins in your inventory when there is a house in the world that has all the details that yours does (torches, woodwall, chairs, workingbench or table) with the minimum size of 6 blocks high and 10 blocks wide. Do this and get yourself some nice armor!

Step 4: Eye of Cthulhu

Now that you have a good set of armor, health potions, overal health, swords and skills, you are ready to face the Eye of Cthulhu. First up, you need 6 lenses, aquired from Demon Eyes that roam around in the when it’s night. But you’re not done yet! You need to have a bomb, grenade or dynamite in your inventory and have a proper and empty house. When those requirements are met, the Demolitionist will eventually spawn. When he does, buy bombs and dynamite... alot of bombs and dynamite. Now, go and find a corrupted area. You know when you found one when you hear erie music and the ground looks rotten and purple. Find a big hole that reaches very far down. You’re in luck when you generated a small world. If you haven’t... you’ll probably need a nuclear bomb to make your way, way down into the ground to find what you’re looking for instead of several bombs. You need to make your way down into the ground when the hole stops with the bombs you have. Throw them down on the ground... and RUN! What you are looking for is a cavern deep beneath the corrupted area. It contains Shadow Orbs and Demon Altars. The demon altar servers as a crafting station. You will be able to craft a Suspicious Looking Eye near it with 6 lenses. DO NOT attempt to break the altar whatsoever, nor try to click the left mouse button when you have the Suspicious Looking Eye selected. What you should try to break are the Shadow Orbs.

Thanks for all the feedback guys! I still have absolutely no clue how you all stumbled upon this ancient guide I made, but I appreciate the comments! I've got some time off soon, and how better to spend it than to hide for my responsibilities and go back to playing Terraria all day in order to update and improve this guide, so it can (hopefully) help more people.
In the meantime... here's a happy little tree: :terraria: :)
