"Unachievable" Achievement [WIN/MAC] 2019

Following this simple guide, I will show you how to obtain The Stanley Parable's "Unachievable" achievement.

What's the "Unachievable" achievement?

While coding the initial game, Gran PC, developer of "The Stanley Parable", created a series of achievements.

Probably wanting to be somewhat of a "troll", he included one that he ironically named "Unachievable", which by means of coding was unachievable (until a bunch of achievement-hungry coders reverse engineered a code to bypass the initial one!).

Checkmate.

When he first found out, Gran PC, expressing his disapproval, stated:

" I don’t really approve of reverse engineering the game and then divulging the way :/ "



Now that people found a way around this previously unobtainable achievement, I will show you how to get it for yourself!

Windows Guide [9 Steps]

These are the steps to follow for Windows operating systems.

1- Make sure the game is closed ;
2- Locate you config.cfg file ;

For example:
D:\Steam\SteamApps\common\The Stanley Parable\thestanleyparable\cfg\config.cfg
(Just open it with any text editor)

3- Right click it and edit it ;
4- In a new row, add this line to the file: bind “x” “~;_u” ;
5- Save the file and then set the config.cfg file to read only ;
6- Open the game ;
7- Start a new game ;
8- Press the “x” key on your keyboard ;
9- Achievement unlocked! (If not, give it a few seconds).

Mac OS Guide [9 Steps]

These are the steps to follow for Mac OS operating systems.

1- Make sure the game is closed ;
2- Locate your config.cfg file ;
3- Right-click it and open it with a text editor ;

For example: TextEdit (default Mac program)

4- In a new row, add this line to the file: bind “x” “~;_u” ;
5- Save the file and then set the config.cfg file to read only ;
6- Open the game ;
7- Start a new game ;
8- Press the "x" key on your keyboard ;
9- Achievement unlocked! (If not, give it a few seconds).

It did work for me, and I didn't even have to press the keybind at all. I added the line in the config, below the w-bind to walk forward, saved, put to read only, then I started up the game without (re)installing (it's just been sitting ready-to-go for 5 years) and got both 'Go Outside' and 'Unachievable' just for loading to the main menu screen.

No longer works. Tried multiple guides and video tutorials. Also tried adding it right at the end of the binding portion of the config file. It simply doesn't work anymore. And yes, I had it set as Read Only

Ok, just got both achivements after i tried again, the Go outside one before reinstalling as i just started it again, and the Unachievable one after reinstalling and following the steps. So this still works as of now! However, it didnt work when i posted the line on the bottom of the config file, only when i posted it in the first section together will all other controls. That was my bad and i could have thought about that earlier, but maybe you could specify for others that its important to add the line in the first half of the file. :D

Honestly didnt expect an answer, nevermind that fast, thanks. Ye i guess ill try reinstalling it, but idk if i will contact the devs because of an achivement, but lets see.

I would try uninstalling and reinstalling at first to get the game working again, then filing an error report to the creators if unsuccessful.

I started up this game again after 6 years, mainly so i naturally get the achivement "Go outside" for not playing it for 5 years. Sadly, i didnt get the achivement... and i dont know why. Have to look into that again because i really want to get that like intended.
Furthermore, i cant get this unachivable achivement with this guide, this could be because maybe somehow i cant get any achivements in the game atm, at least those 2 (maybe because i had to set the launch option to "-console" so i could use the console? Maybe because something broke because i didnt play for so long? Maybe steam changed something? Maybe its just bugged for me right now?)
It's March 2020, so i dont know if they maybe updated the game? Cant find anything about it, but if they did, they have probably done it in secret. Wouldnt be too unrealistic now that the Ultra Deluxe Edition comes closer, they certainly had a lot to do with the game again.
