A Bastard's Tale Lore
By SuperPinger
The lore of this game is really hard to explore, but I've tried my best and came up with some interesting ideas. Please note that everything contained in this guide is nothing but a speculation!

How do we understand the lore of the game?
In story mode, after each victory the player is shown an illustration that contains some information about the lore. Simply examining the decorations and other stuff also matters.
General information.
WEAPONS AND ARMOR

The game is set somewhere around XV-XVI century, that's what we can say by simply looking at the armor and weapons used by Bastard and his enemies.

A horseman wearing a sallet helmet.

A soldier using a targe shield. (Could also be a thin heater shield, not sure.)

Knights wearing stechhelm tournament helmets.
Note that the main hero is wearing an armet helmet and late plate armor.

An archer wearing a bascinet without a visor.

An officer dressed in XVI century armor.

THE KINGDOM

The action takes place in a nameless kingdom ruled by Bling King. People really love their ruler and they are ready to protect their country and king at any cost, or so it seems judging by the local "pop-culture".

THE BASTARD

The Bastard is depicted to be not a human, but rather some kind of an ape-like fantasy creature. We can say this by looking at this illustration:

It is, however, quite possible that such imagery is not true but is instead propaganda from Bling King.
Scenario #1: Bastard is restoring justice.
Once upon a time Bling King had a bastard son (illegitimate son). Thinking that Bastard is unworthy of throne, Bling King exiled him from his court. Ashamed and angry, Bastard spent all his life training with his sword, hoping to restore justice by force. Thinking that his skills were now perfect, Bastard decided to go and slay Bling King and take the throne for himself. However, loyal villagers, soldiers, sorcerers and even animals decided to kill Bastard in order to protect their liege... all their efforts turned out to be of no use - Bastard crushed every single one of them, killed Bling King and became a king himself.

Scenario #2: Bastard is a psycho.
In this scenario Bastard is not named so because of his birth, but because of his wicked nature. Bastard simply craves for blood, and he satisfies his maniacal thirst by killing innocent people, hoping to one day slaughter even the king himself. His bloodlust limitless, Bastard slays everyone in his way to Bling King's castle, where he kills the king and starts a rule of hatred and violence.

Gave the guide a bit of polish two years after the release. I kinda rushed its production back then, so now I've fixed the pictures and some grammar mistakes (hit me up if there are still some, not a native speaker). Added the propaganda theory the folk suggested to the guide.

A heroic man killing peasants and animals, that is :Kolobok:
In this case, scenario #2 applies. Sorry for necroposting :p

Don't believe the author of this guide, he is a king sympathizer. He reads the propaganda posters that are posted throughout the game as true blood messages of the game. The Bastard is no monster, just a man. A heroic man. On a quest. :yellowwizard:
