Witch Hunter Captain (A&F + BoP)
Some tricks in case you don't know......
Screaming abilities (Mercenary, Iron Breaker, Witch Hunter Caption) have couple special properties:
  • Your ability range is a "sphere". It can go upper or down floors and go through walls. You can save your teammates with this trick.
  • You can use your "scream" while reviving teammates or healing. Use it to create some spaces.
  • All abilities/item that can stun boss will pull their aggro to you. So if you are not ready or your teams mates can kite the boss pretty well, don't use your ult mindlessly.

What is WHC passive "Eternal Guard"?
  • When you block a light attack in your block arc, no stamina will be consumed. This means hordes cannot break your guard when they are facing you. It provides the ability to spam push in the horde.

Also as WHC, you have extra 5% base crit chance and 25% bonus headshot power.

Talent

LVL 5
With extra ammo talent and BoP, WHC becomes one of the highest Boss damage dealer in the game. If you are having trouble with clutch, use the dodge distance talent.
LVL 10
Axe and falchion has a lot of useful breakpoints with Abjured Temptation. It also boosts your overall damage output.
LVL 15
Justice's Bounty is the most useful one in normal legend run. It will increase the whole teams' tankiness and also the reason why WHC can use Natural Bound.
LVL 20
Hitting enemies to regen is currently the most versatile level 20 talent. You will regen 1 hp even if you hit one enemy.
Crit/headshot to regen is the fastest way to heal if you can constant doing headshot or you have high crit state. Can be selected if you are confident about yourself.
LVL 25
CD reduction can provide more CC, more spacing. Also BoP needs reloading now so you cannot utilize extra duration.

Melee weapon

Axe and Falchion is the most overpower melee weapon in the game. You have 25% extra dodge distance. Your push attack has extra 10% crit chance. Your heavy chain has the highest DPS in the game. Currently, it is the optimal melee weapon for all Saltzpyre careers, so I will include a build without A&F for people don't have DLC or Fatshark nerf it in the future.

Breakpoints: 10% chaos, Abjured Temptation(talent):
One shot-bodyshot fanatic with axe attack (without Adjured Temptation).
One shot-bodyshot Marauder with charge attack.
Two shot-bodyshot SV with charge attack.
Two shot-bodyshot Mauler with Tag and charge attack.
Four shot-headshot CW with charge attack.

Range weapon

For Axe and Falchion WHC, you can deal with multiple elites and horde with ease. So the BoP should focus on Boss damage and special sniping.

Breakpoints: 10% chaos, 10% skaven, 10% monster, Abjured Temptation:
One shot-bodyshot hookrat with tag
Two shot-bodyshot all specials
Two shot-bodyshot Mauler with tag

Necklace

Extra health and stamina to spam more push attack. Natrol Bond works great with Justice's Bounty.

Charm

To reach the breakpoints mentioned above.

Trinket

Best choice if your team decide to take grim.

Talent

LVL 5
With extra ammo talent and BoP, WHC has high ammo sustain to deal with specials. With this build your rapier already has super high block cost reduction, extra dodge distance is not necessary.
LVL 10
Raiper has high headshot mutiplier. With Deathknell you will be able to reach a lot of oneshot breakpoints.

Rapier has one of the lowest base block cost. You also only spend half stamina shield to push. With 60% block cost reduction and Eternal Guard, it feels like using Parry.

You can also fire your sidearm pistol with weapon special attack key. It can stun all types of units except hookrat, beserk/monk, CW and boss.
You have two levels of charge attacks. 2nd level charge attack deals better damage, but takes longer to charge.

To kill hordes, spam push attack and light attacks. With Eternal Guard, you shouldn't be worried about being broken guard by hordes.
To kill multiple SV, spam light attack on their head. You will one-shot them with crit shot headshot.

Breakpoints: 10% skaven, 10% chaos, Deathknell:
Oneshot-headshot fanatic with light attack.
Oneshot-headshot Marauder with Level-1 charge attack.
Oneshot-headshot SV with Level-2 charge attack.
Threeshot-headshot CW with Level-2 charge attack and Tag
Combo bodyshot Marauder with Level1 charge-side pistol.
Combo bodyshot Mauler with Side pistol-Level1 charge-Side pistol-Level1 charge. It will also chain stun Mauler.

Range weapon

5% crit to triger Scrounger.
If you feel unsafe with multiple elites, use your career ability and shot them. You will lose little ammo dude to your high crit chance.

Breakpoints: 20% skaven, 10% chaos
One shot-bodyshot hook rat and assassin with Tag
Two shot-bodyshot all specials and SV without Tag

Necklace

Extra block and health. Natrol Bond works great with Justice's Bounty.

Charm

To reach the breakpoints mentioned above.

Trinket

Best choice if your team decide to take grim.
Bounty Hunter (Falchion/A&F + Repeater Pistol)
Some tricks in case you don't know......
Blessed Shots can be triggered by your range attack, your career skill and your bomb.

Talent

LVL 5
Making your shot more intensive. Easier to kill elites in range.
LVL 10
Increase both your range and melee damage output.
LVL 15
Core talent for any Hunter trait build.
LVL 20
Kill to regen should be used with melee weapons that can kill elites fast. However, Bounty Hunter prefers to kill elites in distance. You also gain very little hp from hordes.
Crit/headshot to regen is the fastest way to heal if you can constant doing headshot or you have high crit state. However, Bounty Hunter does not have a melee weapon with high crit chance. So if you are not confident with your melee aiming, use kill to regen.
LVL 25
Use Encore if you want more CC/horde clean. But you will need super close range + Blessed Shot to one shot CW.
Double-Shotted can one shot CW with Blessed Shot or with 10% chaos.
It's all personal preference. I choose Double-Shotted in case of patrol.

Melee weapon

Axe and falchion is the optimal option. Use light attack + push attack to kill hordes or multiple elites. Use dodge + heavy to kill elites if you have enough dodge counts.

Falchion is also very powerful if you don't have DLC or a&f got nerf. It has a faster attack and regular attack pattern so it would be easier to perform headshot to regen. Use light attack + push attack to kill hordes. Use dodge + heavy to kill elites.

Breakpoints for Axe and Falchion: 10% chaos
One shot-bodyshot fanatic with axe light attack.

Range weapon

To clean horde, shot them with Blessed Shot to active Hunter, then melee them with your boosted power.
To kill specials, use left click when your Blessed Shot is not ready. As long as you have more than 8 ammo you will be fine so don't hesitate to kill specials or berserker/monk.

Breakpoints: 10% chaos, 40% crit power, Crippling Strike(talent), Blessed Shot(passive)
One shot-bodyshot SV with left click.
One shot-bodyshot all units except boss with a full burst.

Necklace

Extra stamina and health. Bounty Hunter should focus on elites in the mid-back line instead of fighting hordes in the front line, so choose Natural Bond to heal from mobs' scratches, but if you are too easy to go down use other traits.

Charm

To reach the breakpoints mentioned above.

Trinket

Best choice if your team decide to take grim.
Bounty Hunter (Axe + Volley Crossbow)
Some tricks in case you don't know......
Blessed Shots can be triggered by your range attack, your career skill and your bomb.

Talent

LVL 5
Essential for volley crossbow build due to its super slow reload speed.
LVL 10
Increase both your range and melee damage output.
LVL 15
Reset blessed shot with melee is the core playstyle of volley crossbow build.
LVL 20
Kill to regen should be used with melee weapons that can kill elites fast. However, Bounty Hunter prefers to kill elites in distance. You also gain very little hp from hordes.
Crit/headshot to regen is the fastest way to heal if you can constant doing headshot or you have high crit state. Axe have 10% extra crit chance with all light/push attacks. Working great with this talent.
LVL 25
Volley Crossbow lack the ability to oneshot CW. Use Double-Shotted and 10% chaos to kill CW without Blessed Shot passive.

Melee weapon

Axe has fast attack speed and high single target damage. It can kill single mob unit faster than other melee weapons.
You can also handle hordes good enough with some practice. If you really struggle with it, use axe&falchion for more cleave.
Use axe to kill single mobs (slave/clan rat, fanatic, marauder) to reset Blessed Shot, and then use your range weapon to kill elite units.

Breakpoints: 10% chaos
One shot-bodyshot fanatic with light attack.
Two shot-bodyshot marauder with light attacks.

Range weapon

Volley Crossbow build needs you to switch between melee and range very often. It eats a lot of ammo but also regains them very fast. With each crit volley shot, you spend 3 ammo to gain 6 ammo = 3 ammo regen.
During pushing, volley elites and kill mobs with axe.
During hordes, shot them before close range combat. Use volley when you have Blessed Shot. Use single arrows when you don't.
For CW, volley once with Bleesed Shot, find a mob and kill it with melee, volley CW again. If there are no mobs nearby, just use melee to finish it.
For Boss, keep volley shot until you have 3 ammo left. After that, only shot when you have Blessed Shot.
5% crit chance to save some ammo when you are cleaning hordes.

Breakpoints: 10% chaos, 40% crit power, Crippling Strike(talent), Blessed Shot(passive)
One shot-bodyshot SV/Mauler/all specials with 2/3 volley (2 crit arrows)
Two shot-bodyshot CW with full volley (6 crit arrows)

Zealot (Axe + Crossbow)
For A&F BoP build talent, use this one. For items, see the Witch Hunter Captian part.

Some tricks in case you don't know......
Charging abilities (Foot Knight, Slayer, Handmaiden, Zealot, Battle Wizard) have couple special properties:
  • When you hold your career skill button (F by default), your charging path or landing position will be shown.
  • You are not invincible during charge. Hold the mouse right button when you start charging to block. However gas, fire, bullet, vomit, vortex will still hurt you.
  • During the charge, you can click mouse right button to stop charging.
  • All career (except Handmaiden with invisible talent) should avoid charging right into the horde. You will go down quicker than you thought.
  • Only Foot Knight, Handmaiden, Zealot can active charge in the air. Zealot charge can neither go through infinite units nor stun them.
  • You can use your charge while reviving teammates or healing. Use it to create some spaces.
Abut your passives:
  • Your passive Fiery Faith does not count temp hp. A good zealot should keep your green hp low to gain more attack power.
  • Heart of Iron has CD of 120 sec and cannot be reduced by purple pots. Also, if the last hit you took is from your teammate, you will go down and the passive will be used.

Talent

LVL 5
Zealot already has high tankiness from level 10 talents. More crit chance for more damage.
LVL 10
Flagellant is the best talent to increase your tankiness in the game. No second choice here.
LVL 15
Zealot already has high tankiness from level 10 talents. More crit power for more damage.
LVL 20
Hitting enemies to regen is currently the most versatile level 20 talent. You will regen 1 hp even if you hit one enemy. Zealot can hit so fast after charge and you will be full health in no time.
Kill to regen benefits from killing elites. It is ok on zealot but in case of range-based teammate it is not recommended in Pub.
LVL 25
Frother increase your clutch ability and boost your damage output by a lot. However if you are not confident about keeping green hp low and temp hp high, use Pleasure From Pain.

Melee weapon

Axe has great AP damage, great attack speeds. Super easy to deal with multiple elites with light attacks + dodge. You can also handle hordes good enough with some practice and extra attack speed form your career skill.

Breakpoints: 10% armour, Fiery Faith(Passive)
One shot-bodyshot fanatic with 1 stack of passive
Three shot-bodyshot SV with 4 stacks of passive

Range weapon

The crossbow has high accurate aim and fairly high damage. It is the best weapon for Saltzpyre to perform special sniping.
When you are aim with mouse right button, you will gain extra crit chance.
5% crit for extra ammo regen and make up for bad aim.

Breakpoints: 20% armour, Fiery Faith(Passive)
With 0 stacks of passive
One shot-headshot all specials.
Two shot-bodyshot all specials.

With 4 stacks of passive:
One shot-bodyshot SV, ratlin, fire rat.

Necklace

Extra stamina and health. With health property, you can have up to 6 stacks of passive. Boon of Shallya can be replaced by Barkskin to survive gas/bile troll vomit/storm fiend fire/vortex.

Charm

To reach the breakpoints mentioned above.

Zealot (Flail + Crossbow)
For A&F BoP build talent, use Zealot axe build talent. For items, see the Witch Hunter Captian part.

Talent

LVL 5
Push attack is the core move of flail anti-elites attack pattern so stamina is the key. It is also superior than Level 15 extra stamina talent.
LVL 10
Flagellant is the best talent to increase your tankiness in the game. No second choice here.
LVL 15
Zealot already has high tankiness from level 10 talents. More crit power for more damage.

LVL 25
Frother increase your clutch ability and boost your damage output by a lot. However if you are not confident about keeping green hp low and temp hp high, use Pleasure From Pain.

Melee weapon

Comparing to axe or axe&falchion, flail does not have amazing damage nor block/dodge. It also has more complicated attack patterns. In exchange, it provides the best CC among all Saltzpyre melee weapons and can hit through shield with certain moves. Chain light attacks can stun multiple SV. Chain heavy attacks can stun multiple Maulers.
For horde, use the attack pattern Push attack-Block cancel-Light swipe-Light swipe. Your stamina will be full again if you use the Level 5 stamina regen talent.
For elites, use the attack pattern Push attack-Light overhead-Light overhead.
For shield units, only heavy attacks and light overhead can go through them.

Breakpoints: 10% armour, Fiery Faith(Passive)
Two shot-headshot SV with light overhead attack + 6 stacks of passive

Range weapon

The crossbow has high accurate aim and fairly high damage. It is the best weapon for Saltzpyre to perform special sniping.
When you are aim with mouse right button, you will gain extra crit chance.
5% crit for extra ammo regen and make up for bad aim.

"Use axe to kill single mobs (slave/clan rat, fanatic, marauder) to reset Blessed Shot, and then use your range weapon to kill elite units." thx very cool! but this mechanic removed feelsbadman. guide master confirmed

Personally with natural bond and justice bounty i don't need to use any healing item in a whole normal legend run. I don't need to stop to heal and save all of items for teammates.
If you want to know more about healing trait, Machiavelli's guide discussed it in a mathematical way. You can check that in its appendix part.
OPFOR Apr 14, 2019 @ 12:06pm
Extremely good WHC Rapier build. But may I ask why you choosed "Natural bond" over the "Health sharing" ability? With natural bond it takes 10 minutes to get back to full life. I personally find it much more usefull to heal two death marked people. Or am I missing an aspect here?
