Introduction
Welcome to the Dragon Age: Origins - The Mod Install Guide -Open to Request! This guide will offer the guidance needed in order to install mods for the game. It will include required tools, how-to videos and overall helpful info to make for a better modding experience for all. This guide is open to requests, so feel free to request guidance on installing specific mods and such guidance will be made available in the Requests section. With all that out of the way, onward to the rest of the guide!
Extracting/Moving Files
Most of the time you need to extract and move files into a specific location within your game files. It usually ends up being in your Documents > Bioware > Dragon Age > core > override. If the override folder isn't present, than you simply create one and rename that new folder "override" without the quotes. Some mods might require to move the files in other locations and usually note it on the mod website or in a text file with the mod files. If unsure, make a request on here to find out!

Extraction tools: ( WinRAR[www.rarlab.com] | 7zip[www.7-zip.org] )

Using Windows extraction tool instructions: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4028088/windows-zip-and-unzip-files

Various file types needing extraction/unzip: 7z, XZ, BZIP2, GZIP, TAR, ZIP, WIM, AR, ARJ, CAB, CHM, CPIO, CramFS, DMG, EXT, FAT, GPT, HFS, IHEX, ISO, LZH, LZMA, MBR, MSI, NSIS, NTFS, OVERRIDE, QCOW2, RAR, RPM, SquashFS, UDF, UEFI, VDI, VHD, VMDK, WIM, XAR and Z

Dazip Installers/Mod Managers
Some mods for the game require or recommend the use of a tool either called Dazip Installer or mod manager. The mod files for these mods are contained in a file type known as .dazip and can be installed or extracted into the game files using a Dazip installer/mod manager. There are three for this game and those are:
===========================================================================
DAUpdater

This mod installer is already acquired when you install the game. Some .dazip mods require DAUpdater as an installer. If you'd like to know if a certain mod requires DAUpdater, make a request to find out!

Example location of DAUpdater: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Dragon Age Ultimate Edition\bin_ship

===========================================================================
DAModder[www.nexusmods.com]

DAModder is a mod manager capable of installing and uninstalling mods from zipped files or .dazip files. Some mod installs done by extracting/moving files could be done using DAModder, but not all and not recommended. Some .dazips are to be installed using DAUpdater specifically. If you'd like to know if a certain mod requires DAModder, make a request to find out!

Requires: .NET 3.5[www.microsoft.com]

(Note: .NET 3.5 enabled on Windows 7 - 10 as a Windows feature. You can check if you have it installed by browsing through your "Programs and Features" or "Turn Windows Features on or off" located in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features.)

DAO-MODMANAGER[www.nexusmods.com]

DAO-MODMANAGER is capable of installing the .OVERRIDE zipped file type and .dazip. You can also extract the contents them of OVERRIDE zip file type for manual install. If you'd like to know if a certain mod requires DAO-MODMANAGER, make a request to find out!

Requires: .NET 3.0

(Note: .NET 3.0 isn't necessary to install if .NET 3.5 is already installed. .NET 3.5 includes .NET's 2.0 - 3.0)

Installing Character Overhaul/Alteration Mods
The installation of mods that overhaul or alter the appearance of the characters of the game need a extra step compared to other mods. Mods that do this include a file that is called CharGenMorphcfg.xml that is responsible for loading up all the changes the mod does to the characters involved including the player. Having more than one of these creates compatibility issues or simply cause the mods not to function properly. This can be fixed by using a tool called CharGenMorph Compiler[www.nexusmods.com] that combines multiple CharGenMorphcfg files into one as long as they are in their own folders in the documents override folder.

Conclusion
There you have it, the guidance provided by this guide should cover most of your mod installations. If you run into any issues with certain mods, feel free to make a request on how to install them and I will get back to you on how to correctly install them. Otherwise take care and happy modding!

There is also another guide that goes over a large variety of mods, recommendations, compatibility concerns and their proper installation instructions. It might include mods you might be considering using, are trying to install or offer a good place to start with enhancing your experience past the regular. Here is the guide.
