FF7 Weapon Battles Guide
By Reaper0117
This guide is meant to give everyone an oppertunity to defeat both Ruby and Emerald while aquiring the ap. No one seems to want to aid everyone in getting the most out of the fights and has you using weapons and equipment that just doesn't give you any of the ap. Big waste for those trying to get a quick boost in the materia achieve considering both Ruby and Emerald give a whopping 50,000 ap. Triple growth would give the ap 150k while double would give 100k. Good boosts. Also if you managed to grab the EXP plus from the gold saucer and mastered three of them, you can double the exp you get from the bosses.

Getting Started (Weapons, Armor, Acces, Items)
First of all you'll need several things to get you on your way to beating them both. Be warned if you want an easier fight and don't care about the ap then your looking at the wrong guide.

To get the most your party should consist of Cid and any other member. (Cloud is obviously there alread)

What you'll need:
Weapons

Apocalypse (3-Slots) - Clouds only triple growth weapon. Found in Ancient forest. You can get there by either getting a mountain chocobo (or better) or by killing Ultimate Weapon in which he makes a nice path for you. Its in the cave at the end.

Scimitar (2-Slots) - Cids only triple growth weapon. Found in the Underwater Reactor at the docks. You visit this place during the story however if you don't grab it, it's lost to you.

Any other party member can use any double slot weapon they have. So pick the character you prefer and have at it.

Armor

3 x mystiles - One can be found during your final visit to midgar (when you parachute in like a boss) and the second can be found in Northern Crater HOWEVER you can do a little trick to duplicate the mystile at northern crater.

For armor you could use double growth but I'd advise not to as you'll probably never beat either weapon.

Access.

Ruby:
2-3x Ribbons - Ruby is a douche with status effects IF he can even land a hit on you. One of his tentacles can frog/small you (%&$@#$%$#&@$)

1x White Cape - if for some reason you can't get 3 ribbons then use this as a secondary helper.

Emerald:
For this guy I used
1x Protect Ring
1x Sprint Shoes
1x Tough Ring

Items
99x Mega Elixers
99x Hero Drinks
99x Dazers (only for Ruby)

Granted you probably wont even use all of them but hey be prepared.

Also as a side note it is reccomended you do the W-Item trick with the Sources. It's easy to do if you know what you're doing.
Farming Sources FOR MORE POWER
You can actually get an unlimited supply of sources with the W-Item duplication trick and a $%&# load of time.

You'll take one item and move it to the top of your list (Must be a single item like one potion, can't have more then one of the item). One member needs morph (Preferably Yuffie with her Conformer Ulti weapon - makes morph damage normal damage instead of reduced) and another needs W-Item. Now when your Morph character goes to morph have your W-Item character use the one item in the list and wait. When the enemy is morphed the specific source should move to the now available slot. When done select another item and deselect it. Continue to select and cancle your second item and you'll aquire unlimited sources (up to 99 at a time). You can find youtube videos in-case you aren't sure about what I'm saying.

On a side note you need to have at least two enemies in the battle otherwise you won't be able to do this. You can do this with one enemy however it requires a lot of farming for mastered final attack materia and it just sucks.

Screamer - Power Source
Comes in groups of two or sometimes two and a twinbrain.
Location - Mt Nibel outside the reactor

Spiral - Guard Source
Attack in groups of 2 or three
Location - Located south east of Mideel in the dirt area. Need Tiny Bronco or Highwind to reach (if your fighting this duo you most likely have Highwind, otherwise something isnt right)

8-Eye - Magic Source
Groups of two
Location - Inside the temple of the Ancients (LOL USELESS AFTER FIRST PART) or the Battle Square. Usually third round in.

Serpent - Mind Source
Solo dog
Location - Sunken Gelnika
Unless you find the time to get all that final attack materia just skip this mofo

Poodler - Speed Source
Can appear in groups of 2-4. Can appear with the luck source friend (which you can get 99 of both in the same battle if at least 3 enemies)
Location - Sunken Gelnika, room where you fight Reno and Rude

Bad Rap - Luck Source
Same as Poodler
Location - Same as Poodler

I only farmed power and guard sources when fighting both weapons. However Speed would have been extremely more helpful in the fight.
Mystile Duplication Trick
This is obviously done in the Northern Cave.

At first split Send everyone left EXCEPT for Tifa.

At second split Everyone goes up EXCEPT for Cloud, Cait Sith, and Vincent.
Travel through the screens collecting everything until you get to the bottom, but DON'T GATHER YOUR PARTY OTHERWISE THIS WON'T WORK.

Travel BACK through the screens you just went through until you get to that last split. Go through the area that you sent Barret Red 13 etc and once again collect everything in this pass. Once again you'll get to the bottom and once again DO NOT GATHER YOUR PARTY.

Backtrack all the way to the first pass where you $%#&@$ over Tifa and sent her alone. Go through this area and collect everything again. Tifa's path has the mystile in it but you must go through the other two paths first before hers. After collecting everything from her path, gather your party.

If done correctly you should recieve duplicate items from your gathered team with mystile included.
Emerald Weapon
This guy is by far much worse to deal with then Ruby. I know, I know people probably would argue otherwise, but hey you can't paralize this %&@$#.

Materia used is all your own. However make sure each member has an HP Plus for 9999 health and someone with the Underwater materia (cuts the timer).

For this fight I personally used:
Cloud
HP Plus
Double Cut (had 4x cut)
W-Summon

Barret
HP Plus
W-Item
Slash-All
Underwater

Cid
HP Plus
Enemy Skill
W-Magic

Emerald Weapon
1,000,000 HP
50,000 EXP
50,000 AP

Drops - Earth Heart (used to get master summon, magic, and command materia)

Attacks

Foot Stamp - used when all eyes shut - Physical Attack hits all
Emerald Shoot - used when all eyes shut - Targets one member
Emerald Beam - used when at least one eye is open - Like Emerald shoot but hits everyone
Revenge Stamp - obviously a counter (look at the name) - Basically foot stamp
Aire Tam Storm - Does 1111 damage for each materia on your specific character - everyone
(ie. if Cloud has 3 materia, will deal 3333 damage, 2 mat would be 2222 etc)

Emeralds fight is pretty straight forward (IMO they both are) Its basically a hit and heal fight till he dies with a lot of healing going on. All of his moves do a lot of damage so healing is mandatory not optional. He has two phases which he'll switch between throughout the fight.

At the start of the fight he'll be in Phase One which he will have all eyes closed so this is the perfect time to buff up your team. Big Guard is helpful to put haste on everyone with some defense while it lasts. Have two members attacking the boss while one is using mega elixers. If you put someone in with W-Item materia then you can spam mega elixers and hero drinks on your party to make them stronger (remember your not using ultimate weapons and 4 hero drinks per fighter is max I believe). During this Phase he'll only use Foot Stamp, Emerald Shoot, and Revenge Stamp.

Aire Tam Storm is used in both Phases and I've noticed he doesn't always use this. I've fought and killed him before without him ever using this move however it can be extremely deadly if not handled properly.

Phase Two consists of him opening all his eyes (he has 4). Eliminate his eyes as quickly as possible. Two of his eyes deal MP damage while the other two deal HP damage. That mixed with his own SEPERATE ATTACKS (look above) can wipe your party if not careful Which is why you need someone spamming mega elixers especially at this part.

When his eyes are killed off he'll go back to Phase One in which you'll want to do as much damage as possible. He will open his eyes after some time and you just repeat.

If you manage to take home the gold you'll aquire the wonderful earth harp, which you'll be spending immediately for the master materia, and a whopping 150k ap per materia on Cloud and Cids weapons and 100k on whoever else you brought with you. Don't forget that lovely Achieve.
Ruby Weapon
Ah Ruby. Delightfully a kajillion times easier then his brother Emerald. Is anyone else upset we didn't get to fight Sapphire? Damn Shinra...

Ruby Weapon

800,000 HP
45,000 EXP
50,000 AP (Mmm AP....)

Attacks:
Big Claw - Used only when claws not in ground
Big Swing - Same as ^
Comet 2 - Same as ^
Whirlsand - Same as ^

Since his claws will be in the ground ignore the above as I'll not go into further detail as to what they do.

Ruby Flame - Basic fire attack
Ultima - Counters using this when a summon is used on him
Ruby Ray - Can inflict confusion. It's a real pain thus the Ribbons you are required to have
Shadow Flare - Uses randomly

Ruby Tentacles

Side note - All Ruby's attacks come from Ruby himself. Remeber this as I'll explain better soon.
Right Tentacle:
Two attacks that both do HP damage and frog/small status
Left Tentacle:
Two Attacks that both do MP damage and posion/slow

Drops - Desert Rose - Gets you a Gold chocobo, but if your gonna race just breed your own. My choco I got had max speed of 88km. Dissapointing.

Ruby, like Emerald, has two phases. However for the entire fight he'll be in Phase two. This fight MUST be started with only one character alive. So before you start the battle get into a random encounter and execute your two friends. Don't worry they'll be joining you shortly after the fight begins. Also Move your Mega Elixers, Hero drinks, and Dazers to the top of the item list.

Materia doesn't really matter since he can't Aire Tam you to hell. However Pheonix, Hades, W-Summon, and Master Summon are REQUIRED. Yes you could use Kotr (Knights of the Round) however it doesn't have unlimited uses like Master Summon does. I believe it was magic counter that I paired with Hades and the final attack materia with Pheonix. Make sure that pair is on your surviving character. This is very important.

When you start the fight with Ruby he should stick his hands into the ground to block your escape (this guy just sealed his fate. If only he let you walk away with the spoils) If he gets a first attack in your counter should cast Hades which will slow and paralize Ruby (HOLY #$%@ YOU CAN PARALIZE A BOSS) however your first move should always be W-Summon Hades then Pheonix. Hades to slow/para and Pheonix to revive your friends who trusted you to slaughter them in cold blood earlier.

Do NOT target his tentacles. Doing so will have him call them up and you'll be %$&#@% until two members die, but by then you'll most likely wipe or lose a member to whirlsand thus losing that characters chance at tons of AP.

This fight is EXTREMELY EASY. For whichever character you have master summon on just spam KotR with him. Have your other two characters spam Mega Elixers (for his mp), Hero Drinks (Just 4 per person), and dazers on the boss. My KotR did roughly 8,500-8,900 a hit so about 7 casts should kill him( 8,750 x 13 = 113,750). Dazers don't last long which is why you need the equipment. Sometimes it'll wear off and because Ruby hardly moves (and almost looks frozen while slowed) you may not notice until after he attacks. It's possable to go this entire fight without him attacking once.

Side Note: I've literally witnessed this guy use whirlsand WITH his tentacles in the ground. He's not supposed to and this is EXTREMELY RARE. I've noticed most guides tend to not mention this. It's most likely a small glitch in his mechanics however if it happens (because you didn't daze fast enough) either continue or restart (you should restart to get the missing character his AP).

Dazers only need to be used on Ruby himself. His tentacle attacks are done by Ruby not his tentacles. So just point and laugh at them while they wiggle around helplessly waiting for Ruby to give them commands. The second you see Ruby moving throw a dazer at him.

If all goes well (which it should) Ruby will fork over the giant ap gain along with the Desert Rose and the Achieve for beating a surprisingly jk for a boss.

Bye
This was my first guide for a game loved by billions worldwide. Hopefully one day they will remake the game. After all I'm sure they can add more side quests (heard a rumor that carbunkle was supposed to be a summon in a side quest, but taken out/not finished unsure) and up the difficulty.

Thanks for reading and I hope this guide was helpful. Feel free to leave any comments or suggestions.

Nice run down and yeah you nailed it, most people would argue ruby is worse then emerald. I was able to beat emerald first in 98 before ruby. And your correct car-BUNCLE was not in FF7
