A pinnacle of Russian ingenuity, this "new generation RPK" is by every possible definition the same old RPK with fancy "obves" (rail systems and attachments) worthy of Call of Duty games. The prototypes which had fully ambidextrous and reversible controls (and even a bolt catch!) won the Vatnik Ratnik contest, but were ultimately scrapped, making the whole contest a big, terribly expensive joke with the punchline being an older and much simpler AK-400 prototype being accepted as the "final production model". Not counting the rails (with no covers, unlike, say, Galil ACE), the Krebs-style safety/selector, and a telescopic/sidefolding stock, the series received practically no ergonomical improvements, having lost all pretense of ambidextrousness. Regardless, in February 2019 at least the RPK-16 is claimed to be entering military trials.

Replaces the M60 (model only)

I have planned this some time ago, but shelved it as then I lacked the welding skills I have now. Now that the Russian military is said to test the gun, and it is February 23rd, I think this is the perfect timing. Looking at the photographs of the RPK-16, all I see is the AK-400 with a longer handguard and either a short heavy barrel or a long thin one, with an optional suppressor and/or bulky sights. This literally is what I did to the "AK17" model from Payday 2: prolonged the handguard to the front sight and replaced the box magazine with a drum. The drum is not the new 5.45mm polymer one (with a weird 95 or 96 round capacity), but we can assume the gun is chambered in 7.62x39mm M43, like the "AK-15" (quotes are f*cking mandated).
