A brief tutorial on how to noclip

What is noclip?

Noclipping is a tool in games. The name means no clip, where clip means walls blocking your path, and noclip means you can pass through walls. By extension, this also allows you to fly.

Should I noclip?

This game contains spoilers which are sensitive to noclipping. However, it's quite easy to tell if it will spoil it for you.

How to noclip

Have you read the previous section? I do not want to be responsible for spoilers.

Noclipping used to be in game (probably it was left in and forgotten by the devs) however it has since been patched out of the game. We can download an old version which has it enabled, however this old version cannot read your saves. Back up "C:\Users\<Your name>\AppData\Roaming\The Witness"!

1. Open the Steam Console by going to a browser and entering "steam://nav/console" into the URL bar. Then click "Open with Steam Client Bootstrapper".
   
2. Copy in the command:

   download_depot 210970 210971 4660219967587740136

   then press enter
   
3. Go to the downloads tab and wait for network usage to stop
   
4. Go to:

   C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\content\app_210970\depot_210971

   Run "witness64_d3d11.exe" for 64 bit or "witness_d3d11.exe" for 32 bit.

Noclip is now available. To activate, press SHIFT and . (PERIOD) at the same time, then let go of all keys and press m. You should be in noclip mode!

If you do not want to download an older version of the game, the speedrunning community has a program that will let you noclip in newer versions as well. It is called witnesstrainer and can be downloaded from github at https://github.com/jbzdarkid/witness-trainer/releases/tag/1.3.1 .
