How to hunt for A.I. ? Tips and Tricks for Beginners
By Zilla
So, many players of The Isle have a problem with hunting the A.I* (*short from Artificial inteligence)?

Here is my basic tutorial, which may help you to hunt the A.I dinosaurs scattered around the map. This guide may be helpful for inexperienced or newcoming players, who struggle to survive in the harsh world of 'The Isle'.

Bear in mind, that this is my first tutorial, therefore it may be unprofessional and quite simple made.

Also, this tutorial is based on my own experience, as well as experiences and opinions of other players.

Rule 1: A good headset is the key for your best effects in hunting.
This is the most basic rule of this guide. It's the key for the success. A decent headset will help you not only to orientate in your surroundings, determine from where the danger is coming, but also will help you determine the site from where the noise of upcoming prey is coming.
Rule 2: Listen to your surroundings.
The A.I, whenever it spawns somewhere near, makes chirping sounds. At this moment, in the game there are 3 types of A.I, that consist of Velociraptor, Orodromeus and Psittacosaurus. It is important to differ these sounds from the ambient sounds of the game.

Example of sounds made by A.I dinosaurs, you can check on Youtube, in the links below:

Velociraptor sounds:

Orodromeus sounds:

Psittacosaurus sounds:

Rule 3: A.I spawns when there are more carnivores in the area.
That's why this rule encourages players to keep with other players that play the same species as you. Use the in-game chat to find players that are playing the same dinosaur species like you and join them on your quest. It basically boosts a lot your chances to survive, because the game will spawn more A.I for you.

Beware if you are playing alone. Sudden A.I spawn may not only give you and occasional chance for a meal, but may be also a warning that a larger predator lurks in the area. This applies especially to herbovoire players, as the A.I does not spawn for herbovoires, unless there is a carnivore nearby.
Rule 4: A.I spawns more often when there is less than 30 players on the server.
This is possibly true, as the A.I tends to not spawn for solo players when there is more than 30 players. While the algorithm of the game is unclear, the players seem to confirm this theory. So, if you are a newcomer for the game, try to pick servers where there is less than 30 players around.
Rule 5: Talk to your food.
Don't know if this is true for sure, however it seems so. Your playable dinosaur has four different roars. Button '2' on your keyboard is responsible for something called 'friendly roar'. The A.I tends to answer these calls on some occasions.

That way you can determine from where the sound is coming from and move to the source.

Bear in mind, that as you roar for your unsuspecting prey, other, larger carnivores in the area may hunt you down, as they may detect you after your sounds.

Rule 6: The A.I does not respond for the stalking mode.
This rule is quite actually self-explanatory. Under the CTRL button you have the stalking mode activation. Durning this, the dinosaur crouches, moves much slowly and generates less noises.

While it is useful for hunting other players, the A.I does not respond to it and it will always see you, no matter if you are stalking them or just rush on them. However the in-game A.I is quite dumb, as it rarely runs from you, when they see you approaching.
Rule 7: Stick to one area.
It is confirmed by Isle players, that A.I does not spawns around the whole map at the time, but for different players. If you can't find any A.I while exploring the world of The Isle, try to sit for a longer time. This not only conserves your stamina, food and thirst, but it should spawn an A.I nearby soon enough. Some say that the A.I does not spawn near rivers, but it's not true, as I hunted down many A.I's near lakes, ponds and rivers.
Rule 8: A.I spawn is worse on Isle V.3.
In the game, you will find two, different maps, aside from the Devs map. While I can't confirm this , rumor has it, that A.I tends to spawn worse on map Isle V.3.
Rule 9: The 'High A.I' servers make a difference.
While looking at the server browser, you may encounter servers labeled as 'High A.I'.

It is true, that these servers have a bigger chance of spawning A.I's, even for lone players.
Rule 10 and the final one: Don't count on A.I at all times.
As you grow up, it may be hard for you to keep your stomatch full on A.I dinosaurs. The A.I is a good source of food for small to medium carnivores. Apex predators need to hunt larger game which basically means hunting other players.

Remember that friendship in this game is temporary and, as soon as someone gets hungry, it will eat you, no matter if you are sticking to him for a longer time. If you are sure, that you can charge and kill your prey, don't hesitate.
Parting words.
So there you have it, my 10 rules of hunting in this game.

I really hope you'll find this guide useful and it will help to bring your dinosaur to the adulthood.

Sound advice here. "High AI" servers don't exist though; they're simply trying to lure more players to the server. There is no way to alter the spawn rate of AI. Try it yourself by hosting a server.

Thank you! you taught me alot about AI.

The only thing I can add here that no one else did is the benefit to having less AI around. While it does present a more challenging scenario, less AI means better stealth for carnivores. AI tend to let everyone know there's a carnivore around. ;)

High AI servers have been confirmed to make no difference with no config file allowing a change of the spawning of AI

forgot the ava also spawns aswell, sometimes the ai will responded [run away] when you 1 call [sometimes you can be walking /standing right next to the thing and it won't react] and sometimes it doesn't see you when crouched [ the only ai i've encountered that will run from you crouched is the oro - they apparently have good vision], when you've killed something you can very often just walk up to a velo [if it's eating at a carcass/ribs] and munch it because they don't run from you when their eating. also there's a chance that you can just let the ai kill it self [you can catch velos chasing and sometimes killing [if left long enough] oros, so you can just walk up and nick it! XD ]

Also, I checked files and such for hosting a server, there is no way to change AI count. They just use this on V3 servers and net everybody to twins, where AI do spawn in large batches.

2 calling does not get a reaction anymore, and crouching behind or even a bit in front of an AI will keep you from being detected.

Good guide, just about everything on here is true or seems to be by my experience as well. Only casual takeaway I can think of is forgetting Ava exists. If anyone worries what it sounds like, high pitched, screaming trike. lol
