Introduction + An Important Thingy for Returning Players
Heyo, the name's Craig! And I'll cut right to the chase: I was certainly not happy with how this guide was years ago. So..I've redone it for the most part and added walkthroughs for a couple of achievements! I'm years late to this especially with this version being delisted on Steam and other digital storefronts due to Sonic Origins, but better late than never.

I was originally going to limit sections (or rather chapters?) of this guide to solely the 12 achievements and cut the intro entirely, but I had something to say that's important.

If you're somehow playing this release of the game for the first time in 2025 or beyond, that's great! You can ignore what I'm about to say that's marked in spoiler text, as this is a spoiler:
You cannot unlock achievements while playing as Tails.
So..don't ever do that if you've completed the game and want to do some clean-up.

With that said and acknowledged, I hope this guide helps you out in some way!
88 Miles Per Hour
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

88 Miles Per Hour
A pretty simple achievement. Every Act, minus Act 3 of every respective Zone, have multiple signposts Sonic can run by. The goal is to build up and maintain enough speed to travel either to the Future or Past, depending on what signpost you passed. You'll inevitably be doing this for a few of the other achievements listed here, and is almost impossible to miss when playing through Palmtree Panic Act 1 casually.

Just one hug is enough
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just one hug is enough
This achievement is gained from well..getting a hug from Amy. You can redeem your free digital hug either at the end of Palmtree Panic Act 1 in the present, or wait till the end of Stardust Speedway Act 3 to get a hug from Amy you can't skip.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Paradise Found
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Paradise Found
For this achievement, you must clear a zone with a "Good Future".
To do this, you'll have to smash down the Roboticizers hidden in the past versions of the first two acts. Once you've destroyed both Roboticizers in a zone, it's Act 3 will be a "Good Future". Defeat the boss and clear the act, and the achievement is yours.

You can also collect all seven Time Stones to guarantee a Good Future for every Act 3, which should also count toward this achievement.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Take the High Road
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Take the High Road
Would you be surprised to hear there are two goal posts in Act 2 of Collision Chaos? That's the case with this achievement, which asks you to complete the Act by taking the goal post further up than what the player would normally go through.

There is a "u" shaped curve at the end of the level, right before the goal posts. Use the Spin Dash or Super Peel Out (making sure to build up speed before letting go) on the left side of this curve and let gravity and momentum do the rest of the hard work, you'll reach the high road in no time.

Be mindful that the red spring on the side of the floating platform won't help you reach the upper goal post, rather it'll send you back down instead.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
King of Rings
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

King of Rings
Pretty simple achievement, it wants you to hold onto 200 rings at once. I recommend going to Palmtree Panic Act 2, then travel between Past/Present/Future as rings grabbed in one time period won't affect another.

Though if you're like me and have a massive skill issue when it comes to holding onto so many rings, visiting the angel statue for the Statue Savior achievement can trivialize the King of Rings achievement entirely.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Statue Saviour
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Statue Saviour
In Wacky Workbench Act 1, you'll want to stay on the bottom path until you see a Past sign close-by to one of those ice hazards. Touch it, then backtrack a little to the left to where you can bounce up incredibly high. Make sure to land on the floating platforms above, avoid touching the Future sign, and continue right past the crushers. If you did this quickly enough you should be warped to the Past while going through this automated speed section.

After warping, you should be spat out with Sonic holding onto some metal bars. Seeing the left side is a dead end from here, you'll want to continue going right until you reach a more open area with one of those ice hazards hanging from the ceiling before it. Use the bouncy floor to bounce upward again, this time keeping an eye out for an opening on the wall to the left. Once you're past that opening, continue to backtrack and carefully jump along the platforms and moving blocks, staying close to the floors as possible. After the moving blocks, there should be a second set of moving platforms that move up and down. Jump onto each of them carefully (or do a leap of faith and try not to land on the bouncy surfaces) and you should see a "L" shaped slope to your left. Do a small spin-dash toward it and continue holding left, as there is a hidden path that leads straight to the statue's shrine.

And there ya go, ya found the angel statue!

If you end up lost on the way somehow or need a better idea visually on what to look for, here's maps of the Past[www.soniczone0.com]and Present[www.soniczone0.com] versions of the Act for you to look at! Credits to Sonic Zone: 0 for these maps, really well made ones at that!

If you haven't gotten the King of Rings achievement yet and are struggling with it, this statue may as well be your own savior as the statue will dispense rings for ten seconds when approached. Leaving and re-entering the shrine will have the statue produce more rings for you to collect, allowing you to earn that other achievement in a safe environment.

Heavy Metal
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Heavy Metal
The goal of this achievement is to win the race against Metal Sonic in Stardust Speedway Act 3 without taking any damage. While not really difficult, it will take some practice and memorization of the level layout.

Though if ya need a map to help ya memorize the level better, Sonic Zone 0's gotcha covered! Although there's no level geometry differences between the two, I figured it'd be good to include both the Bad Future[www.soniczone0.com] and Good Future[www.soniczone0.com] here.

All Stages Clear!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All Stages Clear!
Beat the game, simple as that!
Which ending did you get?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Treasure Hunter
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Treasure Hunter
To get this achievement, you must collect all seven Time Stones.

Similar to the Chaos Emeralds in other Sonic the Hedgehog titles, these are obtained from special stages. To enter special stages in this game, the player must collect at least 50 rings and reach the goal with them, then jump inside the giant ring that appears past the goal post.

As for clearing the special stages themselves, they're..a bit tricky. To get the Time Stone from each special stage, you'll need to destroy all six UFOs while navigating a 3D (sorta) environment while under a time limit. If the clock hits zero, the special stage ends and you'll leave empty-handed. Sonic will not stop running during these stages so you'll only be able to nudge his direction either left or right, as well as jump. Like the other games earlier special stages aren't all that difficult, but the later ones can really be challenging.

If you're struggling at all I've got some tips for ya:
  • Don't ever touch the water, it'll reduce 10 seconds off the clock and make you move slower!

  • Study the environment! Fan tiles can be exceptionally useful for getting around the map and navigating trickier areas, same with the spring tiles and various dash tiles. Special Stage 6 in particular does feature a few dash panels that're actively harmful to take, so watch out.

  • Pay attention to the UFO colors! Purple UFOs with yellow stripes give you rings (which only give points at the end), while blue UFOs with silver stripes give you a speed boost. If you're playing the older versions, the stripes will be the only visual difference between the UFOs.

  • A blue UFO with red stripes will appear at the center of the map when there are less than 20 seconds left on the clock. Smash it and you'll get 30 seconds back. These don't count toward the total amount of UFOs you need to destroy, they're just here to help ya stay in the game.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dr. Eggman Got Served
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dr. Eggman Got Served
Another simple achievement for beating the game, more specifically after destroying Dr. Robotnik's final machine (the Egg Spinner) at the end of Metallic Madness Act 3.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just in Time!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Just in Time!
This tough achievement wants you to complete the Time Attack mode with a total time under 25 minutes. Time traveling isn't a thing in Time Attack mode, so you'll want to focus on practicing and memorizing the Present versions of each act.

If you decide to rush and use damage-boost strategies for the bosses, do so responsibly! Know your own limits and what the bosses can do, you'll only waste time otherwise.

As for the 25 minute goal, it's surprisingly quite lenient as many of the stages in the game can be completed in an average of 1-2 minutes as long as you know what you're doing. Heck, dedicated speedrunners have managed to complete a majority of levels under a minute. Some of them have even been completed under 30 seconds!

If any particular stages are giving you a hard time trying to clear quickly, I'd highly recommend looking up some speedrunning videos; try to copy their movement and the routes they take for each stage. Maybe even look up some maps (especially the Sonic Zone 0 ones) of the levels you're struggling on, and try to formulate a route that works best with you. Chances are you'll end up with results that're more than enough for this achievement.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Saviour of the Planet
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saviour of the Planet
For this one you need to personally destroy every single Roboticizer and Metal Sonic hologram in each of the game's Acts. The only exceptions are the Act 3s of each Zone, as they take place in the future.

If you're going for this achievement, do not collect all seven Time Stones while going for this. You'll lock yourself out of this achievement and have to start a new save file to try again, as there will no longer be any Roboticizers or holograms in future levels to destroy after acquiring the seventh Time Stone.

While you can still get this achievement (while simultaneously getting the Treasure Hunter achievement) by waiting till Metallic Madness Act 2 to collect the final Time Stone, I would advise against this as you'll only have one chance to clear the special stage as the game auto-saves.

Provided you ignored the Time Stones, the game is more than eager to tell you if you've missed a Roboticizer in a particular zone based on Act 3's state. Having a Good Future means you knocked all of them out, while a Bad Future means you missed one or even both somewhere in the previous Acts.

As for the Metal Sonic projectors, you'll see animals roaming around the Past and Present versions of each Act if you take one out. However, animals are always roaming around in the Good Future, so don't rely on Act 3s to tell you if you missed any.

For both of these, I'd highly recommend making notes (either on a text application of your choice or with a pen/pencil and paper irl) on which Roboticizers and projectors you've destroyed during your playthrough. If you get a game over and don't have any continues, you'll have to erase what you had written down for the current zone you're on and try again. Don't forget to bash those devices again on the way back!

As for where each of these devices are in the game, someone else had already made a pretty in-detail guide about this very subject actually. Give their guide a look, they've got pictures too!

Why am I not surprised CD shunned Tails like this? After all, the original release only had Sonic.

Just found this and thanks for the guide. To anyone questioning "Why not am I getting the achievements. It's maybe because you are playing as Tails. You can not collect achievements as Tails. If your not playing as Tails and did do all the tasks, then idk what you did wrong. :SonicManiaTails:
