Friendships Guide

Friendship sub-stories are unique in that they often require you to repeat the same process multiple times. This guide will tell you how to find these 'friends' as well as building the initial relationship with them.

The Stop-and-Search Specialist

#1 When you first encounter Kikuchi he will ask you for a quick inventory search. Simply hand over a single item in order to boost your relationship with Kikuchi. This has to be done a few more times before the next phase.

#2 Once your relationship with Kikuchi is high enough, he will tell you a story about one of his fellow policemen who was stabbed to death. Kikuchi blames himself for letting it happen and decided to do stop-and-search in order to stay away from any further risks.

#3 Return to Kikuchi after the second phase. Kikuchi is feeling down, he thinks about leaving the force this time. But then Kiryu notices someone in trouble nearby. Kikuchi ignores it and decides to stop-and-search two kids instead. Kiryu tries to encourage Kikuchi to step in to help the person in trouble, but he refuses, so Kiryu steps in instead. But then someone sneaks up behind Kiryu and tries to stab Kiryu in the back. That's when Kikuchi's adrenaline kicks in, and he successfully puts the knife-wielding 'bad guy' down before it could happen. Saving Kiryu's life. Now a team battle is started with Kikuchi as your partner to help clear out the remaining 'bad guys'. It's not until after the battle that Kikuchi ends up expressing how brave he feels, and decides to thank Kiryu for his encouragement. Now looking to face new challenges in order to become stronger as a person.

Pocket Circuit Fighter!

#1 Win a couple of Pocket Circuit Races.

#2 After having won a few races, Fighter will get picked on by two kids who say he's a virgin for playing with Pocket Circuit Racing at his age. This is where Kiryu can respond that he's not a virgin (Choice), which can boost your relationship slightly.

#3 Fighter runs off. You can find him by Nakamichi Street just outside the SEGA game center handing out pocket tissues. He explains that it's a part-time job, just like his job at Pocket Circuit. After a small talk with Fighter, he returns to the Stadium to be greeted by the joyful kids.

#4 Fighter is looking sad. Win a race, then Fighter asks you to come outside so that he can explain his situation at peace. But then the kids from inside the Stadium will make their way towards Fighter, ultimately interrupting him and making him feel embarrassed that they overheard what he had told Kiryu. So he runs away to the Public Park 3. Go there and have a conversation with him, then he'll return back to the Stadium. With all the encouragement he could ever hope to get, Fighter decides to stay at the Stadium instead of leaving to work for his family.

Miho, Convenience Store Clerk

#1 Purchase things in the store one at a time (Adds higher friendship values than multiple purchases at once) to increase your relationship with Miho.

#2 Miho asks for some advice, answer "Parcel Delivery Service". Miho will appreciate that in her goal to do a better job at the store.

#3 When asked a question about food, answer "Miso Cutlets". Your time talking to Miho has helped encourage her to talk more to other people.

The Mushroom Merchant

#1 Purchase a couple of mushrooms from Kitajima (Purchasing them one at a time will boost your relationship more than multiple mushrooms in a single purchase) to increase your relationship with him.

#2 Kitajima just left the area, come back later. When you meet Kitajima at the same location again, he will be found confronted by two men who seem to have misunderstood Kitajima's mushrooms. It's made clear that they probably expected a 'trip effect' from the mushrooms and found themselves disappointed. The two men decides to fight Kiryu when Kiryu tries to defend Kitajima. After the fight, Kiryu tries to figure out the probable cause of the misunderstanding.

#3 Kitajima just left the area, come back later. Same as #2 but this time Kiryu and Kitajima will discuss what he can do to take action, in order prevent any further misunderstandings.

#4 Kitajima just left the area, come back later. Same as #2 & #3, but this time it's with a mafia boss. Once you make it through the fight, the mafia boss changed his mind and decided to taste one of the mushrooms despite not being what he originally wanted. He finds them delicious and asks Kitajima if he wants to go to Europe to supply them with more of his deli mushrooms. The mafia boss also decided to join your Real Estate project as a security guard.

Kamurocho's Mr. Libido

#1 Find 5 telephone cards and show them to Akimoto in one of the locations. He will then express his ability to imagine the girls on the telephone cards in more 'dirtier' ways.

#2 Find 15 telephone cards and show them to Akimoto in one of the locations. He continues to talk about his ability.

#3 Find 30 telephone cards and show them to Akimoto in one of the locations. He continues to talk about his ability.

#3 Find Akimoto in one of the locations. He's now having a hard time looking at the telephone card girls the same way as before, and asks you for help. This is where you find Akimoto his 'dream girl'. She's found in the Earth Angel bar. Return to Akimoto after having seen her at the Earth Angel bar and tell him about her. Akimoto then leaves you to go see her, he's satisfied.

The Flirty Hook-up

#1 Score a date with the girl in Green bikini through the Phone Club mini-game. Haruki tells you she's wearing Red when you're supposed to meet.

#2 It cuts to the Theater Square where Kiryu spots two girls who both matches Haruki's description. Pick the "Farthest Girl".

#3 Someone's coming. Once you found the real Haruki, her ex-boyfriend makes an appearance and starts a fight with Kiryu. Defeat him to get Haruki's pager number where you'll be able to go on future dates to build up your relationship.

The Sexy Hook-up

#1 Score a date with the girl in White bikini through the Phone Club mini-game. Ayaka tells you she's wearing Purple when you're supposed to meet.

#2 It cuts to the Theater Square where Kiryu spots two girls who both matches Ayaka's description. Pick "Move in for a Better Look" to spot a third girl who matches Ayaka's description. She's the one, so pick the "Farthest Girl".

#3 After having found the real Ayaka, you'll go on a date. After that you'll get Ayaka's pager number where you'll be able to go on future dates to build up your relationship.

The Innocent Hook-up

#1 Score a date with the girl in Blue bikini through the Phone Club mini-game. Riku tells you she's wearing Blue when you're supposed to meet.

#2 It cuts to the Theater Square where Kiryu spots two girls who both matches Riku's description. Pick the "Closest Girl" to spot a third girl who matches Ayaka's description. She's the one, so pick the "Girl in Front".

#3 After having found the real Riku, you'll go on a date. After that you'll get Riku's pager number where you'll be able to go on future dates to build up your relationship.

Emiri, Mach Bowl Receptionist

#1 Just keep bowling, Emiri just likes to see you play.

#2 Defeat the Leisure King in Real Estate for step two. Emiri will tell you about a fun little competition where you can win an actual Turkey if you score a Turkey (3 strikes in a row). If you do this, Emiri will grant you the "Turkey" which Kiryu decides to keep after he found out that it was alive (And not one served on a plate).

Sushi Gin's Chef

#1 Order some sushi a few times to increase your relationship with the chef.

#2 Eventually you'll find the chef doubtful of his own ability to make sushi. He wants to work with fresh ingredients and asks you to bring him some fish. Use a taxi to travel to either the Kamurocho pier or the river which you'll find in Sotenbori. You'll need 4 of any fish. Pull out your fishing rod (You have one by default) and read the instructions carefully to get yourself a catch. Return to the chef and give him the 4 fishes.

#3 After doing that, Kiryu will comment on the chef's improvement and the chef will thank Kiryu in return.

#4 Return to the chef and you'll see a (Probably) food critic comment on how good his sushi is. The chef appreciates this a lot and decides to keep it up.

Luka at SEGA HI-TECH LAND

#1 Play Out-Run (Win/Lose) a couple of times.

#2 Luka wants you to beat her highscore of 1500000 points. That should be around the score you'll have by the very first checkpoint. Once you beat this score, Luka will tell you that she'll be back with an even higher score the next time you face her.

#3 Luke wants you to beat her highscore once again, but this time it's 3000000 points. This should be the score you'll have when you're close to the second checkpoint. Taking the right instead of the left path (To the first checkpoint) felt easier. Beat this score and Luka will install the new mini-game "Super Hang-On" to the game center.

Kamurocho's Mr. Moneybags

#1 Invest ¥10,000,000 with Fukushima - Mr. Moneybags (He takes a small percentage)

#3 Invest ¥1,000,000,000 with Fukushima - Mr. Moneybags (He takes a small percentage)

#4 Invest ¥10,000,000,000 with Fukushima - Mr. Moneybags (He takes a small percentage)

The Doll Girl

#1 Interact with the 'Doll Girl', then come back later to find her being messed about by some thugs. It's after fighting these thugs that she tells Goro that she wants a toy from the claw machine inside the arcade. The first one is a Red "Chestnut the Squirrel".

#2 After that she tells Goro to catch a Blue "Chestnut the Squirrel" from the arcade.

#3 Then a pink "Bunchan the Java Sparrow".

#4 Return to 'Doll Girl' later to find out that her toy had been messed up and her mother was taken away by some thugs. After taking care of the thugs and rescuing the mother, they find themselves very grateful for your efforts.

• Location: Gandhara Sotenbori (Chapter 3)

Gandhara's Clerk

#1 Watch videos at the Gandhara store.

#2 The clerk eventually tells Goro about a woman in white who has a legendary tape. Her location is marked and once you're there, she tells you she's cold. Give her some Oden soup from the M Store Shofukucho and she'll give you the tape. Head back to the clerk to watch the video and you'll satisfy him.

• Location: Komian (Chapter 7)

Komian's Chef

#1 Dine here a couple of times.

#2 Eventually you'll meet the Chef's assistant. Goro asks her why she's not cooking and she reveals that the Chef himself refuses to give her the training.

#3 Now you'll see that the Chef's assistant is trying to cook some meals against the Chef's will. But the Chef decided to still give the food a try, and he liked it!

#3 Something is bothering the Chef's assistant. We find out that the Chef had been in an accident so she's now the one to do all the cooking. Aid her by giving her the correct ingredients. The catch this time is Eel, Salmon and Softshell Turtle.

#4 After giving the ingredients to the Chef's assistant, she can finish up the meals for the customers and manages to keep them satisfied. The chef comes back with a changed mind and decides to help train her now.

• Location: Shot Bar STIJL (Chapter 7)

STIJL's Barkeep

#1 Order drinks to increase your friendship level.

#2 Eventually the STIJL barkeeper will ask Goro if he could run the place while he goes away to re-supply the sake. Once the customers arrive, pick the following options: "Sherry Casks", "Ballantine's", "It's got a fruity aroma" to successfully complete your job. When the barkeeper returns you'll find him impressed which charges up your friendship to the max.

#1 Invest ¥10,000,000 with Tanioka - Mr. Moneybags (He takes a small percentage)

Kyoko at SEGA HI-TECH LAND

#1 Play Space Harrier (Win/Lose) a few times.

#2 Eventually Kyoko wants you to beat her highscore of 1,000,000 points.

#3 Later on, Kyoko wants you to beat her new highscore of 2,000,000 points. Beat Kyoko's score to unlock the new "Fantasy Zone" mini-game in that game center.

Sotenbori's Mr. Libido

#1 Watch 5 different videos at Gandhara Sotenbori he will talk about girls when you find him in one of the locations.

#2 Watch 10 different videos at Gandhara Sotenbori he will continue to talk about girls when you find him again in one of the locations.

#3 Watch 15 different videos at Gandhara Sotenbori he will continue to talk about girls when you find him again in one of the locations.

#4 Now find him in one of the locations. He will ask you to get him a Habu drink at the Daikoku Drugstore. Do this, then give it to him to maximize your friendship with Habu.

Mystery Caller

#1 Simon wants you to get him weapons from Dragon & Tiger Sotenbori. The first being a Chinese Broadsword found in the East Asia - Underground Market.

#2 Simon now wants a Tourmaline which is found in South America - Jungle.

#3 Simon also wants a Sakura Storm which can be obtained in either a weapon search result or by completing the "Man with a Stranger's Face" sub-story.

#4 After giving Simon all that he wants he'll ask for you to save his life.
