Use Playstation or Keyboard Icons In-Game!

If you're using a PS2 or PS3 controller on your PC, the relevant button icons for the game are already included! You just need to find them and put them in the right spot. Also included are the steps to use the keyboard icons.

Find the files

In your Steam library, find Mercenary Kings and right click on it, and choose 'Properties'.

From there, select the 'Local Files' tab, and click 'Browse local files'.

Renaming the xbox icon files

Rename the following files to .bak, or make a copy of them elsewhere, just in case.

ButtonA.zxnb
ButtonB.zxnb
ButtonBack.zxnb
ButtonRS.zxnb
ButtonX.zxnb
ButtonY.zxnb

Inserting PS icons

Go out one directory, to mercenary_kings\Content\Global\Controller, and open the PS4 folder, and copy all of the files.


Once there, go back to the Windows folder and paste. It should look like this, if you've left the .bak files there:


You're all done! Here's what the icons look like in-game:

Alternatively, use the icons for the keyboard

If you've noticed, there are also KeyN, KeyL, KeyK, and KeyJ files. You can use the keyboard icons, you just need to know which button is which.

Use the following guide to rename the files:
KeyK.zxnb - ButtonA.zxnb
KeyN.zxnb - ButtonX.zxnb
KeyL.zxnb - ButtonB.zxnb
KeyJ.zxnb - ButtonY.zxnb

You have to leave the ButtonRS and ButtonBack files from either the PS4 folder or the default Xbox ones, as there aren't icons for the keyboard.

Hehe, I'm using the PS button icons even though BetterDS3 is enumerating my DualShock3 as an Xbox360 controller for compatibility... ANARCHY!

This is awesome! I wish more games had PS button mappings. I had to put stickers over my PS controller to keep things straight.

so everthing works for me but my O button is my X is there anyway I can fix this

for changing from 360 to PS4 icons, wouldn't it be easier to take the directories that the PS4 and 360 icons are in, and swap their names? (changing PS4 to Windows, and vice versa)

I'd like to know why the game is reading my controller wrong, when I push left on the D pad it takes that to mean down. when I press down it takes that to mean left, square is triangle and vice versa.

The thing that REALLY impresses me is that there are also specific icons for the DualShock 4. Every developer needs to be as good as these guys.

You can get the MotionInJoy Drivers for the PS3 controller, manually install them (so you don't have to deal with the TERRIBLE D3 Tool), then us Better D3 Tool. After all that is said and done, just click the Auto Map Controller as if it were 360 controller.
