Garry's Mod 1 [24.12.2004]
From this date begins the story. The first version was nothing more than an experiment in the Source SDK, so it was no different from Half-Life 2, with the exception of a few buttons: creating manheks, adding all weapons and disabling the artificial intelligence of in-game characters.
Especially global changes, as you can see, no.
Garry's Mod 2 [27.12.2004]
In this version some tools are added, as well as weapons from the Half-Life 2:
Pistol (USP Match Half-Life 2 pistol),
.357 (Colt Python revolver from Half-Life 2),
Gravity gun (Gravity gun. Oviously? Yes.),
Physics gun (Can move, twist and freeze items),
Crossbow (Crossbow from Half-Life 2),
RPG (Half-Life 2 rocket launcher).
Garry's Mod 3 [30.12.2004]
At this stage of game development, it becomes more interesting. This version can be considered the beginning of the creation of a full-fledged game. In this version, the well-known by all of us map gm_construct has been added, which is still used today. Also, buttons that create ragdolls and objects are added, the red button replaces the function of deleting objects. The physical gun also acquired a modern look.
Garry's Mod 4 [5.01.2005]
In the fourth version, the multiplayer mode was added and the gm_construct map was updated. PhoeniX-Storms PhoeniX-Storms.
Garry's Mod 5 [9.01.2005]
On January 9, 2005, in the fifth version, the map was updated again: water was added to the game world, and the skybox was made more realistic, PHX-like platforms remained, but some of the old ones were removed due to uselessness. Two new tools were added to the game: a paint gun and a balloon gun. The drawing tool had a limited number of colors, the tool for creating balls could create identical balls along the length of the rope and weight, differing only in color. In this version, a menu was created for creating objects, replacing the RPG gun and the platform.
Garry's Mod 6 [29.01.2005]
January 29, 2005, the sixth version adds a menu with tools (lamps, balls and welding), a help window with solutions to all major problems and important tips for starting the game, a tool for creating lamps and lanterns, [NOCLIP ALSO ADDED] , faceposing, in which you can only change the face (make some facial expressions: kiss, smile, etc.). All old items were improved, the map acquired a modern look.
Garry's Mod 7 [12.02.2005]
On February 12, 2005, minor updates of the map and objects were made to the seventh version, the color of the beam of the physical gun was replaced with blue. New functions have been added to the menu of tools, in particular, a duplicate of objects, copying, painting, connecting and destroying objects. Added a list of items.
Garry's Mod 8 [14.03.2005]
The main menu was changed, the loading of maps and the creation of a multi-user server were added, the add-ons manager was added to the menu. The qbox creation menu view has been changed, the standard map has been improved, the mountains in the skybox have been replaced by houses. Added effects of a simple change of the depth of field, bloom, etc.
The eighth version of the modification began to advance as an independent game.
Garry's Mod 9 [27.11.2005]
November 27, 2005 released the latest version available for free download (9.0.4). A number of players use this version, but its popularity is much less, especially with regard to servers. This version adds the ability to download any maps: received from the web; self-created using Hammer Editor and other game content editors using the binary space partitioning format; taken from the supply of other games on the Source engine. This version also added Lua programming.
Garry's Mod 10 [29.12.2006]
This date pass for 1st non-beta version of Garry's Mod. And so it is, since with this update a huge number of changes was added to the game.
Updated libraries related to the scripting language Lua, rewritten system modifications, SWEP, SENT .On January 15, 2008, Garry’s Mod was upgraded to the latest Source assembly used in The Orange Box games [2]. In 2009, support was added for new games on the Source engine (for example, Zeno Clash), and also the game interface was changed, in particular, the Q-menu. Later, an online download of add-ons was added to the game (Toybox). In 2010, the Mac OS version was introduced.
Garry's Mod 11 [16.01.2011]
A new version of the game was born on January 16, when it was transferred to the latest, at that time, version of the Source engine, which came with the release of the popular Orange Box, which included Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One, Half- Life 2: Episode Two, Portal and Team Fortress 2.
Garry's Mod 12 [23.09.2010]
In the twelfth version of the game, the interface was changed, support for new games was added, which worked on the Source engine and support for online downloads of add-ons. In addition, Garry’s Mod 12 began to work on the Mac OS.
Garry's Mod 13 [13.07.2017]
Ragdolls used to be treated as if they had no physics on the client whilst connected to a server. This meant that player movement between clients and the server would be completely out of synch, which felt pretty bad and would cause hideous rubber-banding.
The addons menu has had a couple of additions. Firstly, there's now a search bar which can be used to search through addons that you are subscribed to.
Addons can now also be operated on in bulk. This means you can easily select and enable, disable, or uninstall multiple addons at the same time.
Windows builds of the game now use the Visual Studio 2017 C++ Runtime. This should hopefully not affect anybody, but could perhaps break some third-party binary modules.
Linux builds of the game now depend on GLIBCXX 3.4.19. You may run in to some issues if your server's C++ runtime is a decade out of date. Steam should handle this for you if you're just playing the game.
OSX builds are using the same runtime as before. This will probably change in the next update.
