English Introduction
This is a Guide for Mist Survival! (for Early Access version 0.2.4)

Guess you knew that allready huh? Well jokes aside, this guide was made by me, thinking that there weren't any guides that cover ALL of the game.
Or.. well at least most of it since i might miss something or forget to include it, in which case i hope you guys leave it at one or two little roasts or simply tell me. Easy right?

We will start with the basics, teach you how to get the most important items for your early game and where to set up your Base(that ones simply a recommendation, your game, your tastes, your choices).

Afterwards we will talk about Building your new home(Mostly assuming you took my recommendation but you still can take some tips here even if you chose another location).

Then I will dedicate a section to weapons, tools and the melting furnace.

The next section will deal with bandits, their camps and the hostages you can rescue there.

We can't forget about the Endboss(well as endboss as it gets in Mist Survival) can we? Thats what the next section is all about.

And last, we will talk about the Map and how to get around.

If you think somethings missing or want to leave other construktiv critique, you are welcome to, but since i have other things to do as well it might take some time till i react. :)
Basics: go from A to B
Hello mister new guy, given that your visiting this guide section i will presume that you are new to the game. You are not? Just brushing up the basics after a longer break? Well still going to give you the newbie treatment, no hard feelings okay?

After starting a New Game

You start the Game at one of (to my knowledge) three Starting locations:
The Camp in the valley in the forest behind the fields
The Camp between the small lake and the forest next to the fields
The Camp in the small valley next to the motel

In all cases there is a backpack a saw and a small crate with some loot, take it all with you
(i take it you know how to loot stuff yes? if not, don't worry the game will tell you)

If you need a map there is a Guide which got a good one, I will link it in the map section

In case of fog, hide inside a building or a car(turn engine and lights off and they won't see you)

Inside the Forests there is a chance to encounter Bears, you can outrun them or simply walk around em if you keep your distance.

If you start at the first location, leave the valley and turn left, there is a small wooden cabin with some tools and a backpack (best starting location in my opinion) after looting everything, follow the path to the fields, on your left should be a destroyed house, inside is a gas can, you can use it to get fuel from the cars nearby, check the cars for loot and fuel, but leave the car parts for later, you don't have enough inventory room for them right now.

Cross the fields towards the barn and past it, pass the three barns that are to your left, and turn right, follow the path to the first branching left, on the right side is a starting point hidden in the woods, go there get the backpack there and go back to the branching and follow it, there is a mid size wooden cabin, you can either use it as a temporary base or simply loot it and go for the main base (we will assume you go to the main base right away) there is a water barrel on the side, take it with you, and follow the way till you hit the road.
Turn left and follow the road till the motel, before it on the right side is a small valley with another starting point, get in there and take the backpack with you, then loot the motel till your inventory is full and follow the road again(don't forget the waterbarrel! oh and loot the cars for Fuel) after some time you should find a car service station, remember for later there is good loot here, some distance after there is a branching to the left with a car wreckage, follow it till you see a big white house with a garage next to it, welcome to your new home.

If you start at any other location, restart or travel to the first location(honestly i'm lazy, don't want to think of another route for the other locations)

Food and Water

While at the Start of the game you will find more than enough Food and Cola to keep your hunger and thirst satisfied, later on it will get harder to find stuff still useable, drinkable stuff tends to get rare rather fast so you will want to Switch to water soon as your main drinkable. Doing so is not hard, just get a plastic bottle, a "(DIY) Water Purifier", a Water Barrel and a bucket and self sufficency is not far.

Hunger is even easier, go hunt bears if you need leather or innards, otherwise hunt chicken. a single chicken should keep you fed for around 2 days, you can keep em in a coop as well for eggs.

Another Methode is to hunt infected, they drop lots of potatoes and sometimes canned food too.
Basebuilding from Campfire to Fortress
Now that we have a nice (almost) new single familie house in a good location, all we have to do is furnish it. Since i do not know if there is any good interior designer available in this region we gotta do it the DIY way. But that is no problem for grown men like us...or grown women, emanzipation yay..?

Given that the weathers really foggy every other day and the neighbours tend to go crazy with the fog, we should put most crafting stations (all except the smithy which is to big really) inside.

But hey, first we gotta clean right? destroy the tables in the room to the right. The room to the left got a nice kitchen, well without a sink, a fridge or a stove, we can leave that one, looks nice and takes no space while providing some storage room. Upstairs is mostly empty but there is a bed in one room you can use for now.

The Building Menu is available over the hotkey "B".

The first stuff we need is a "Work Bench" and "Tanning Rack".

A "(DIY) Water Purifier" and a "Water Barrel" (Which we brought with us, there are 4 Barrels close to the base so we can get more later).

And a "Drying Rack".

Storage space might not be enough with just the kitchen cupboards but you can get lots of lockers from the nearby buildings (The Car Service Station got 3 of em for instance). Just be careful, some are filled with 2-3 Infected

A Cooking Station can be build by crafting a "Campfire", "Grill Stand" and a "Cooking Pot".

Thats enough for the inside for now, we still need 2 things outside, the "Blacksmith Place" and the "Stump".

We need stuff from the mine now, refere to the next chapter for that, we will continue here with the assumption that you got enough ressources from the mine to craft your "Sledgehammer" and have since then went on a looting- and farmingspree for "Metal Scraps" and "Components".

Now we can build a "Reloading Bench" and a "Repair Bench".

An "Moonshine Distiller".

And a "Saw Machine" + "Generator" (you can Power the Generator with "Bio Fuel" extracted from animal fat). You can turn off the generator after using the "Saw Machine" to safe fuel.

At last start with the "Pallisade" around our base, with some extra room inside and a frontdoor.

And a backdoor in the direction of the lake, making the ways for water a bit shorter.

A "Trash Bin" is usefull when you want to delete items like empty "Plastic Bottles".

If you are low on stamina and want to rest up quickly, or simply want to decorate your base, a "Chair" is the first choice.

After the wall is complete a "Chicken Coop" is another thing to build.

And for extra storage or simply for extra decoration you can use these here:

Switching out the lockers for "Security Locker"s is another task you can tackle, while not necessary right now seeing as bandit raids are disabled, it provides more storeroom and might prove an advantage later on.
Weapons, tools and how to make them
Here i will introduce the advanced tools and weapons you will need to craft yourself, how to make new ammunition, and where to get the necessary ressources. Please take note that you will need a lvl 2 "Workbench" for both the "Long Bow" and the "Tactical Quiver"

Tools

There are two tools you will need to craft yourself, both are crafted at the smithy. First is the "Pickaxe". Absolutly necessary for mining ore in the mine.

The second one is the "Sledgehammer". While you can destroy stuff for "Metal Scraps" and "Components" with the "Axe" as well, the "Sledgehammer" lasts far far longer, saving you lots of ressources in the end you would need to repair or make a new "Axe".

Weapons

There is only one weapon you craft yourself (Well except Granades but those are more of a Usable than a Weapon really) and that is the "Long Bow". There is a "Basic Bow" but since it only costs 4 "Stick"s less but is far worse in performance, we will ignore it's existance completly.

Quiver

There are 3 different quiver, but we want the big one. Bigger is better after all, don't listen to those who tell you otherwise. And so what we want is the "Tactical Quiver"

Ammunition

We will start with arrows. There are 3 different arrows, "Basic Wooden Arrow", "Hunting Arrow" and the "Flame Arrow" or how i like to call em "One Way Bully", "Bandit Killer" and "Wasteful Overkill"

The wooden ones are good enough for hunting animals or killing Infected when they can't strike back(From on top of the wall or when clearing houses from outside). The "Hunting Arrow"s are Oneshot for Bandits. Yes, even if you only hit their pinky finger. And the "Flame Arrow" are just expensive as hell and there are no enemys that would need em.

Next are Bullets. There are 4 different kinds, 3 of which are lootable and one which is at least for now only available through crafting.

Blackpowder is a rather rare Infected drop or craftable using "Sulfur", "Salpeter" and "Charcoal", the first two are mineable in the mine the last one is a sideproduct when burning firewood at the "Campfire", the Cartridges are crafted at the smithy.

The Cartridges need Brass Ingots which is an alloy and does not exist in ore form and needs to be made by smelting.

Ressources

All Ore, Sulfur and Salpeter can be mined in the Mine, some Ingots need more Ore than others.

The Mine is best reachable with a car, by driving from the farmhouse in direction fields and turn right after the fields, drive up the hill and to your left is the mine.

Not Mineable
2 Components = 1 Low Quality Ingot
2 Metal Scraps = 1 Low Quality Ingot

Mineable
4 Iron Ore = 1 Iron Ingot
8 Copper Ore = 1 Copper Ingot
8 Zink Ore = 1 Zink Ingot
8 Gold Ore = 1 Gold Ingot
8 Copper Ore + 4 Zink Ore = 1 Brass Ingot

Sulfur and Salpeter needs to be pulverized with a "Mortar"(Buildable at the Smithy)

Leather and the innards needed for Quiver and Bow can be gathered from bears, but you should only go hunting after fog, since skinning takes a lot of time and fog while out in the wilds, skinning a bear? lets say it's a bit difficult.

Of Bandits, Camps and your new (Slaves) Friends
Don't want to spend your time crafting stuff at your home when it's still in the morning and you could go outside and go on a crazy looting spree? Can't really relate since i would prefer relaxing at home but.. well at least here in Mist Survival there is a solution! Yes, you got it right i'm talking about the Slav.... What? That word is a no go? but i thou.. ok ok no need to get your panties all twisted Mr. SJW.. huh? no assuming your gender? this is the damn zombie apocalypse!.. ok ok i'll get to it now..

So uhh... Friends! yeah we will rescue our new friends who will be so thankful they will do whatever we ask of em! well in the bounds of the programmed AI they have which is... not much right now.. but hey! At least they can craft stuff for us and say "Hey"! no more lonely! They also keep opening the damn door without shutting it behind em but... well thats ok...i guess?

ok enough with the jokes, here is guide stuff

Bandits

Bandits are ... not really bandits i guess? they don't really rob you but just murder you on sight. They also have guns, making em more troublesome than the infected. But they have a fatal weakness! They can't see ♥♥♥♥ at night and they are allergic against "Hunting Arrows"
One hit with a "Hunting Arrow" from a "Long Bow" and even if you only skin their pinkys they will drop dead, if you do that at night you can clear the whole camp without getting shot at even once... well as long as you do that from some distance, melee bow is not really a good idea.

Camps

Bandits spend most of their time inside their camps, which there are 3 of, they also have a scouting partie stationed at a oil pump just pass they Gas Station and a patrol unit of 3 who sometimes are looting at the Road Blockade, though they are not there all the time. They can also be found in the city in groups of 2-4, though they only spawn sometimes.

Camp 1
The first camp is in the forest are across from the motel. It's surrounded by a iron fence on 3 sides though there is a trash container you can use to climb over it. Not that you should do so. The tactic is plain and simple, wait till night and kill the sentrys from some distance, check if there are any left, if not go in and loot the camp, bringing a sledgehammer with you is adviseable as there are some cars to dismantle. You will also need a crowbar as there is a locker and the door to the room with the hostage that need opening. Noteable loot here are some water barrels you can take with you.

Camp 2
The second camp is somewhere up a hill between the Road Blockade, same tactic as Camp 1, harder to reach, less loot, 1 Hostage. Bring a Crowbar and the Sledgehammer. You know the drill.

Road Blockade
The Road Blockade is a tresure trove, and the bandits know that as well, so they send a patrol group of 3 there. take em out with your arrows from a great distance while crouching and you can deal with em even in broad daylight.

The Oil Tower
The Oil Tower after the Gas Station is tricky. Why? There is a Sniper Bandit. You thought he would be easy since the bandit AI is stupid? Well guess again, he does loads of damg, hits almost every shot and worst of all, he can see you from VERY far away. So how do you make it? Well... you wait for night as he can see FAR, but only at DAY. Not really a camp so no Hostage and not much loot. You know the rest right?

Camp 3
The last camp, after the Gas Station but before the Oil Tower is a road to the right which leads to the city, follow it for some time and the camp is to the right. Only 1 entrance through a container and a Sniper Bandit on the Tower. Use the Night, bring a crowbar a Sledgehammer and an empty inventory. You know what to do.

The City
Some small patrols, only in the first half of the city though.

Hostages

There are 3 Hostages, 2 Female and 1 Male. One can allready guess that there is a lot of stuff planed for em, they have roles, an inventory and you can equip them. But right now the only thing you can use them for is for crafting stuff for you and... well... "Decoration". Better than an empty camp huh? You can get them after you finish your base and it's still early enough. "UPDATE" Since 2.4.0 They can chop trees for you if you give em an axe. I will remake this section after more changes are introduced.
Endboss: The (super buggy) Berserker
Finally! Time for an EPIC BOSSFIGHT!!!

...

......Actually not really.

The Berserker is a Boss with 2 Attributes. For one, he is OP as hell. He can charge at you, he can AoE the WHOLE cave with loads of damg and he's got more HP than you can do damg with every single bullet you find lying around.
And for the other he is Buggy as hell, which means we can still kill him, though it takes a few minutes.

The Tactic for the fight is as easy as it gets. make him stuck in his running animation by standing behind or on top of something, if he keeps running even though he isn't moving you've done good.
Now skewer him with "Wooden Basic Arrow"s till he drops, if you have a good location you can even loot the arrows right off his face midfight, otherwise you will need a lot of arrows. Better have a reserve Bow with you in case yours is allready a bit broken. if you can recycle your arrows then a full quiver is enough, if not ... actually try and get him in a good position, you will really need a lot of arrows otherwise.

Drops

He seems to drop:
2-4 "Grande Fragments" used for making hand granades (not that useful actually)
2-4 Boxes of "Military Components" (while a rare drop from infected, we still get more than we need from em allready)
And 1 Blueprint, which is actually useless at the moment but will be important in a future update, well thats what people are saying at least, but it's true that we can't use it yet and getting it while the Berserker is still a bit buggy just might be a good idea, better having than not having right?

On a side note, don't start the fight while it's foggy, infected do spawn in his chamber and we don't need no risk factors.
Maplocations and the cars you use to get there
First of all, I'd like to give credit to Doctor_Dentist, who made a Map for this game.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1504302093
Just take a look at this beauty. Don't know where to go? look no further as this map is as acurate as it gets. He even made 2 versions, a spoiler free one and another where he put stuff like bandit camps backpack locations etc.

If you don't want such a cheat like map you will have to get used to navigating by landmarks. Don't ya worry the map is not that big as to get lost easily, at least after some hours getting used to.

I will talk about the most striking locations and Landmarks here as well as the 2 types of cars you can use

Landmarks

The Camp at the Tunnel

The starting point of the Mainstreet, a small camp with a destroyed palisade wall and some Trailers.
Notable loot here are some car parts and tools as well as some logs.

The Fields and the Farm

The most notable and biggest manmade landmark, we can find some good loot scattered all over the fields and the barn, and some destroyable cars on the Farm itself. There is also a smithy here for people who want to make tools but didn't build their own yet. We can find 2 Backpacks here, you will need a crowbar for both, and the main building is full with infected so clearing the building is needed too but it's worth it.

The Cabin

The cabin on the way from the Farm to the Street, some tools and a water barrel are to be found here.

The Three Lonely Buildings

On the way from the "Camp at the Tunnel" to the Motel, we can find 3 buildings on the right side of the street, while there is not much to find there, there is at least a handgun which might be the easiest to get in the early game.

The Motel

The Motel got lots of cars to dismantle and loot lying around, just be careful since there is a room with infected on the second floor which you shouldn't enter unprepared, the 2 watertanks behind the motel have some loot lying on top so you might wanna get up there and enjoy the view. also a good methode to get a grasp on the topologie of the region.

The Second Cabin

After the Motel on the right side of the street is another cabin (one of many actually) there is only a little loot and a water barrel here.

The Car Service Station

Further down the road after the Cabin we find this little loot-heaven. Car-parts? Check! Dismantlable cars? Check! Stuff lying around waiting for us? Check! You can also get 3 lockers here and there is a "Work Bench" if you need one.(to bad we can't squeeze it inside our base but you can put it into the garage for early crafting while there is no fog)

The House

The only house you can claim as a base ingame, there is lots of room, the next lake for water isn't that far and it's nice in the middle of the first part of the map, only minus point is that the way to the mine is a bit far, but thats not really a problem with a car. We will use it as our base in this guide and until we can claim a city building and the city becomes more important we will keep it that way (if need be make a small outpost at the mine or a second base in the building across the 2nd motel in the city) You can get here by following the way forking off the road just after the Car Service Station (There is a car wreckage leaning on a tree as a waymark)

The Rest Station

Follow the road and you will get here after some time. There is loot and destroyable cars, so visit it with an empty inventory and sledgehammer in hand

The Road Blockade

Comes soon after the Rest Station, there is a bunker entry on the hill to the left if you need shelter from the fog or if you want to hide from the bandits that are patroling here sometimes. Bring your Bow, Sledgehammer and inventory space. Unleashe your inner loot monster till you are satisfied.
The first place with a "Pick Up Truck", it waits on the other end of the blockade for you

The Settlement

Some Distance after the Road Blackade you can follow a Road branching of to the left. This is the Settlement on the hill left of the fields, it's also right next to the mine. Bring 1 or 2 Crowbars as almost every house has a locked door.. or 2 or 3 actually. Looting at it's finest but watch out for infested inside the houses.

The Mine

Behind the last house on the right side of the street is the mine, here is the only location where we can get ore, so bring a pickaxe with you. building a furnace in the tunnels might help with inventory problems since we can hold a lot more ingots than ore. Danger lvl is 0 as long as you do not wander into the chamber of the berserker, infected do not spawn inside the mine, at least not for now.

The Gas Station

If you just follow the road and ignore the settlement you will come to the Gas Station. Some loot is found here but you will need a crowbar for the storage.

The Oil Tower

CAREFUL not only are here 3-4 Bandits but also a Sniper Bandit, he will see you just a few meters after the Gas Station and he will 2shot you, wait for the night or steer clear. Some lootable cars but not much to get here.

The Bandit Camp 3

If you follow the street on the right just after the Gas Station, you will find the 3rd Bandit camp just on the right of the street, there is again a sniper on the Watch Tower, so wait for night again.

The City

The City is only half finished but you can get some loot here if you want. Not really much else yet, but signs of room for future updates.

Cabins and Watch Towers

All over the are empty Cabins (well sometimes not THAT empty, but with a bow and daylight the infected are easy) as well as some Watch Towers. I won't list every single one but you might want to search them as they often contain backpacks, weapons or other good loot. Bring a Crowbar.

The Secret Military Base
Contains little loot but also an easter egg.

No i won't tell you where it is. Explore the map a bit will you? Thats part of the game too after all and i wouldn't want to take all your fun away.

Cars

There are 2 types of cars available at this moment.

The Rover

Got a large trunk and is easy to find, bit hard to drive though and careful you don't flip over. "UPDATE" you can recover fliped cars now with the new tool introduced in 2.4.0, it's craftable at a lvl 2 workbench

The Pick Up Truck

Has no Trunk but you can put small moveables on the loading platform, using the big suitcase you get far more space for loot than with a rover though it's not as comfortable to use, but if ya wanna bring some lockers, suitcases or a water barrel to your base with having to bring back every single piece ONE BY ONE on foot... that this car is just right for you.
Afterword
Well, not really much to say i guess.

I hope you could take something helpful from this guide or at least had some fun reading my really bad jokes or something... yeah.. uhm.. i guess thats all? if you think something is missing or wrong just write a comment, i will try and fix it when i have time.
Deutscher Teil kommt später, wenn ich mal wieder zeit habe.

The map changed quite a lot in 3.X so i will have to redo most of the guide, but since i first have to try out the new stuff and get a feel for the new map this will take quite a while.

[AUT] Kaelty  [author] May 5, 2019 @ 10:32am
