Heyo! This will be a guide to how to begin to build a brig. I've made a guide also to create a sloop so go check it out as well

Firstly the brig is the 2nd largest available ship in the game, so its also as painful to build as it is large, took me 12 hours solo to gather and build it on my own

  1. what you'll need to do is research down the ship tree to unlock the brig itself, this is done by researched all previous ships before hand.
  2. Start production on a large shipyard, to do this you require a SMITHY... it will cost a fortune, around 4k wood, 4k thatch, 1k fiber and 1/2 k metal. Once this is done congratz.... you've built the largest building in the game

  3. gather the resources to start production on the brig, put all resources needed into the large shipyard. Once you have enough you can immediatly build the ship without having to wait like the smaller vessels (thanks devs, noone wants tow ait an hour)
  4. This is a large project youll need exactly
    40 MEDIUM PLATES
    3 MEDIUM DECKS
    2 LARGE SPEED SAILS
    1 LARGE HANDLEING SAIL
    1 STEERING WHEEL

NOTE* the sails are all made in the loom, like the previous ships no matter what size... and all deck plates and whels are made in the smithy

NOTE 2* the ship requires sailing power, each sail has its own power, it needs around 8 sailing power to actually move, thus its reccomended you build large sails, however it is possible to just build 4-5 medium sails as well and it will have the same effect... but bigger looks cooler so......

once you've made all listed above you'll be able to place and then be ready to sail.

EXTRA: since this ship is classified as large, it has 3 available decks you can use for custumization. you can place gun ports anywhere on the sides of the ship, and even construct diving bell elevators and dingy elevators as well. I put on with my friends cannons on the 2nd deck, beds, storage, food containers, a smithy, furnace loom, tanner etc, just make sure you aren't overwieght!

You can also do what I did and build an upper captians decks for the steering wheel for added extra aesthetic appeal.

Also to mention, you might want a grappleing hook to be able to climb your way up to the crows nest like I did, the rope on the sides doesn't function properly yet

Speed Sail gives you the highst speed with the wind so 1 large sail is better than 2 mediums and 1 medium is better than 2 smalls

weight sails increase carrying weight like chicken said,

control sails make your ship turn tighter and let you catch wind even when going against it. After the 10.0 update all ships will be able to move at 30% speed against the wind.

weight sails increase overall weight capability on a boat. Larges give +1000, mediums give +750, and smalls give +225 weight.

@elyanwee The weight sail i presume is that adjust the ship to it can handle weight better, Speed sail is a must have for speed otherwise the ship will be super slow... other than that i havent done much research on weight sails
