How to Fix Resolution/Scaling Problem in IL-2 sturmovik 1946

Does your game not fit in the screen properly? Are the borders getting cut because of the image size? Does the game apear too big in the screen? Even if you made sure that the resolution of the game was the correct acording to your monitor? These and any other problems you have related to the image of the game being too big to fit your screen will be fixed in this guide

What's the problem

Your game might be looking like this when you tried to change the resolution to adjust to your monitor







When in reallity it should look like this.





You may also notice that the mouse doesn't respond to any movement or does not apear at all.

What really happens is a scaling problem. A problem with the scale of your monitor (which is not the same as resolution). The resolution is the number of pixels you have on your screen and the scaling indicates how big thigs show in your monitor. what is now happening is that the game is being enlarged not because fo the resolution, but because of the scaling of the screen. In reallity this is not caused by the game and neither by your monitor, this is caused by the poor scaling configuration of Windows.

How to fix it

It really doesn't matter at which resolution you have the game just make sure that the game is closed.

• First you have to locate the il2fb.exe file in your computer
  
  
• The file is gonna be located in:
  C:/Program files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/IL 2 Sturmovik 1946
  
  
• Once inside the IL 2 Sturmovik 1946 folder scroll down enough until you find it
  
  
  
  
• Right click on it and go to Properties
  
  
  
• A window like this should apear
  
  
  
  
• On the upper part go to compatibility and check the box that says "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings"
  
  

And that should be it, the problem should be fixed. You can now close everything and start up the game, it should be in the right scale and size acording to the resolution (remember to click on apply and OK when closing the properties window).

A diferent situation

If that didn't work you might be in the same situation as me, where the compability settings are a bit diferent

• Go back to properties and compatibility
  
  
• And click on the option shown on the image below
  
  
  
• These are the same "high DPI settings" but just with a diferent way accesing them
  
  
• Another window like this will pop up
  
  
  
• And check the box as shown in the image

And that should be another way to solve the problem. You can now close everything and enjoy the game (also remember clicking on apply and OK when closing both windows).

Sory in this part, i couldn't get english images of this configuration windows.

Aditional note

As this problem is a scaling issue, you can simply go to the display settings in your computer and change the scailing of the screen to 100% and it will create the same effect as with what we did above.




You can easily acces this setings by right clicking on your desktop

Got it work this time using SAS VP MODPACK. I just want ww 2 mod .I changed a lot in the config.ini ..go to SAS website check it out

This solution brought by EightHorse8357 solved the problem for me. Simple and easy. Just change the resolution manually in the 'conf.ini' file inside the game folder. Go to C:/Program files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/IL 2 Sturmovik 1946 , find 'conf.ini' and change these lines:

[window]
width=
height=

By default, the game comes in 1280x720 resolution, so it will look like this:

width=1280
height=720

My screen resolution is 1920X1080, so in 'conf.ini' I changed it to:

[window]
width=1920
height=1080

And problem solved!

If you have bigger resolusion than monitor you have this problem. Go to il2 1946 folder and search "conf" change resolusion in this file

Hello friend.

I had performed these instructions exactly. But no result.

My issue. I open the game. It loads the introduction cinematic to about 60%
Then the whole program closes automatically.

My monitor display size is also reduced to that of the Simulator and stays that way until I change it back manually outside of the program after it closes.

sometimes I managed to open the program to the point where I could enter the game menu. Then when I go to Quick flight, the program closes before it can load into the simulation itself.
