Serrations can be on either side. They can be used for cutting or on the backside to allow airflow when lodged into a victim. Blades can be difficult to extract due to air being absent creating a vacuum effect, but the notches on the back of the blade can help create airflow allowing the blade to be removed very quickly. Great art btw :)

Aren't the serrations on the other side of the blade? It would make more since for them to be on the cutting part though.
