Fix for various issues / Missing Files / Aspect Ratio / Low FPS / How to play with gamepad and more

I wanted to replay this game and have stumbled upon few issues before I could do that, so I decided to fix whatever I can and also try to get xbox gamepad working with the game.

Missing files in steam version

There's other solutions out there of course, but one would have to download and replace large archives with original retail data. I compared the files inside these archives with steam version and uploaded a separate archive containing only missing/different files. There's no need to replace the original CondemnedA.Arch00 file, since the game is perfectly capable of loading new archives separately.

Unpack everything to root directory, replacing default.archcfg in the process.

Widescreen fix also contains default.archcfg, but they are identical between archives. It is used to make the game load arch00 archives without needing to replace them.

Unpack everything to root directory, overwrite default.archcfg.
If you're not a fan of menu textures, delete Game/CondemnedZ.Arch00 archive and/or set FixMenu = 0 inside scripts/Condemned.WidescreenFix.ini.

Some users report that FixSave option is not working properly, so it is recommended to disable it for the time being. Set FixSave = 0 in the ini file, if you can't save your game with this fix.

How to play with gamepad

Game's control scheme is very simple, but native gamepad support is very limited and often doesn't work properly. I completed the game with xbox one's pad using these tools:

• Controller Companion (alternatively antimicro[github.com], but I only tested with the former)

First of all, download and run XInputPlus and set a path to Condemned.exe. Then go to DirectInput tab, select "Enable DirectInput Output" and assign LT/RT to Button 12/13.


Then, click "Customize" and assign all DPAD buttons to any of the remaining free buttons, for example Button 31, Button 32, Button 33 and Button 34.

Then click Apply and quit XInputPlus GUI.

Next, launch the game and customize keyboard and mouse controls via the menu.
I assigned buttons loosely based on xbox360 controls, but you can change that if you want.
You need to assign every action except the first four (movement). E.g.:



Mouse settings are named weirdly, but basically left stick needs to be assigned to Move ahead/back, Strafe left/right actions and right stick should have Look up/down, Turn left/right.



At this point the game should be playable, but there's no way to navigate the menu or quicksave during gameplay. That's why I used Controller Companion to assign some controller buttons to emulate keyboard presses.

Open Controller Companion's settings, select profiles tab, click on "Add new profile" button, then browse for Condemned.exe or use recent processes to select it:



I chose to assign DPAD buttons to up/down/left/right on keyboard for menu navigation. Since DPAD in the game only used for takedowns, there won't be any conflicts with this during gameplay. Start/Menu button is assigned to ESC, it allows to enter and exit main menu. (A) is assigned to press Enter, allows selecting menu entries and skip loadscreens. Lastly, XBOX/GUIDE button is assigned to F5, this allows to make quicksaves. Other buttons should be set to nothing.



And that's it, I played the game till the very end with this setup, it worked really well for 2005 release.

@pinklighter Sure enough, I went to the Task Manager > Details > Right Clicked "Condemned.exe" > Set affinity > Unchecked all processors but CPU 0 & CPU 1 and it works!!!

for fix fps go to taskmanager and only active cpu0 and cpu1 on Condemned process
