If you use 35 essence worth of ingredients, that top option is as good as it's going to get. Using 50 essence would not give you a better version of the top option than using 35. But the bottom option wouldn't be full at that point - it keeps getting better until the essence value of the ingredients hits 85 (when the bar is full).
The orange bar doesn't tell you which item is better. What it tells you is whether you can make a better item by using better ingredients.
Just an example when the toll with orange bars full is worst than the other with low bars.
I'm not planning to do lists of which essence is provided by which material. I don't know whether that's impacted by randomization at the start of the game, and I don't know whether there will be changes while the game is in development. That, to me, would be excellent content for a crafting strategy guide, I want this to be a 'getting started' guide.
Sometimes I just have some mateiral with a specific essence that unlocks a specific skill I like. But not enough resources around.
Right now I noticed that the optional skill for a pure gold forge (94 Mind Essence) is +1 Crafting Slots.
And earth Essence Armories give me +0.X Experiecne/Turn.
But actually finding out wich materials have the rigth essence is a mater of looking at every material.
