This guide is for creators who wish to make something related to Railway - trains, catenaries, signals, barriers, buffers, bridges, or full track sets and station tracks.

Trains

The track gauge is 1.524 meters, same as vanilla.

The distance between the bottom of the wheels and the overhead wire is 4.938 meters, same as vanilla.

You can download a reference model to fine tune the placement and shape of your wheels and pantograph here:

Style Props

Catenaries, signals, barriers, and buffers can be made and tagged using a script, so they appear in the ingame prop selection UI.
It's not required to create a complete style, you can also create only a normal double and single catenary, or just a single buffer, or just the crossing barriers etc.

Pay close attention to the way railway barriers work - they need different textures and a script for setting the rotation parameters: https://gist.github.com/ronyx69/b14b6da14529f3b5c43c95031a2101eb

Bridges & Tracks

Before you start creating tracks, make sure to download and add the base and placeholder props and place them in your local assets folder, without these the tracks would lose their base props (fishplates, tunnel darkeners, fence beams etc.) and the ability to be affected by the Railway prop UI which works by having invisible placeholder props on the tracks.

It's highly recommended to create a wired version of whatever you are making first, and then once you are done with that, simply delete all wire segments/nodes and catenary lane props.

If you would like to create custom bridges, use an appropriate template such as the generic elevated or truss bridge, and then simply replace the bridge segment and pillar with your custom made stuff.

If you want to create an entire set of tracks, load one of the tracks from the base track sets and replace whatever you want. Note that it takes many segments and nodes for a full set. You can download all source files (752 files, but textures reused a lot) for the basic track sets here:

Station Tracks

If you're making station tracks, use the appropriate template, and then use this script to tag it as the appropriate type:

Thumbnails & UIPriority

As you may have noticed, REV0 bridges have thumbnails which match in style with other Railway thumbnails. Contact me if you would like those to be made for your releases.

They also have a very specific UIPriority to make sure the items are reasonably organized in the train category. Contact me to be included in the spreadsheet and find out the UIPriority you should use. The spreadsheet can be viewed here:

Why are there no cargo train station tracks?
