All Hidden Flashback Locations

A simple guide pointing to all 5 hidden flashbacks in the game, tied to their respective achievements.

Intro

Be wary of any spoilers, this guide is not spoiler free!

Hello, and welcome to my guide!

A few things to keep in mind before attempting to get those achievements :

• I recommend you start collecting them after you've cleared stage 50, because you will have access to a very useful hat power after that point, which will easily allow you to zoom around the world. It is not necessary, but it is recommended to have.
  
  
• To get the achievements, you have to jump in the painthings, at their respective locations, by holding UP as you jump into it.
  
  
• The achievements are a little buggy, from my personal experience with them, so if you do not get it right after the flashback sequence end, jump back in and make sure to hit the start button (or the pause button, whatever you have it bound to) and the skip (or select) button at the same time, as you are watching the flashback. That seemed to register it for me.
  
  
• If the above doesn't work, try mashing A, B , Select and Start all at once as you're viewing the sequence . (A = jump button, B = shoot, Start = pause, Select = drop hat ) . It should get the job done.

Flashback 1

This one is located above the witch's hut, in world 2 (right past belys) . You can only get to it after you have a fire ability, either the fire breathing or the baby dragon, to burn down some vines. Alternatively, if you have the ghost ability, you can just fly straight through the vines


Here's the entrance :

Once in ,make your way through, burn the vines to drop down, until you get to a flower. Use the flower to jump up and to the left, and burn a vine there, then enter through a door, where you'll find the painting :

Flashback 2

Flashback 2 can be found inside Tako's house, at the very start of the game. You will need the spike ball hat in order to break some coral, that blocks the entrance to the painting.


Luckily, the otter is right next to the entrance, so you can swap your hat right there. Break the coral, and you'll reveal a hole.

Go inside it and you'll find the painting :

Flashback 3

This one is located in landfill. It's the area next to Sarona, in world 3, and right after stage 37. You don't need any special hat to get it.

Here's the entrance :


Once inside, proceed until you reach the temple's entrance. Right before going in, hold DOWN until the camera scrolls a bit, and you'll see the painting. Drop onto the branch next to it, and you can jump right in.

Flashback 4

Flashback 4 can be found inside Sarona's barracks (City in world 3).



Throughout the game, there will be a locked door in the barracks. It will be open during the final sequence of the game, where you can cleanup leftover stuff.

After that door is open, go inside and make your way throuh the sewer. It's a fairy linear path, with some gems along the way. At the end, you'll find the painting.

Flashback 5

Much like flashback 4, you can only get this one near the end of the game.



It will be in the town of Belys, in world 2, after it has been destroyed. Go to the mayor's house, and you'll see a new doorway inside

Make your way through a small corridor, and you'll find the final painting.
