Error Code 85 Fix

A guide to fixing error 85 (NO CD INSERTED) on Windows 10 and 11. I decided to make this guide based on the solution I found that works. Hopefully, this will make it easier for anyone looking for a solution.

How to fix error code 85 (NO CD INSERTED)

1. Download the cracked EXE from https://megagames.com/fixes/sum-all-fears-0] (MegaGames doesn't allow AdBlock, so you'll have to disable it before downloading). Create a new folder and save the download there.

Use this link for download -> "preview (dot) tinyurl (dot) com/yak57nvw"

You'll have to replace (dot) with "." and remove all spaces and insert it into the url like this



2. Make sure you have 7-zip 7-zip[www.7-zip.org] installed. If you're using WinRar or something else, uninstall that filth.

3. Right-click THE.SUM.OF.ALL.FEARS.1110.ENG.DEVIANCE.BACKUPCD.ZIPd -> 7-zip -> Extract Here.

4. Open THE.SUM.OF.ALL.FEARS.1110.ENG.DEVIANCE.BACKUPCD.ZIP with 7-zip.

5. Open the game directory by navigating to "The Sum of All Fears" in your Steam library, right-clicking the game -> Manage -> Browse local files

6. Drag and drop SOAF.EXE from the 7-zip archive manager into the SOAF directory.

Select "Replace the file in the destination."

7. Start the game, and it should work! If not, you're SOL because that's all I know.

fix for 2025 is finding a reliable source to get the fixed code from, then deleting the steam SOAF application in your files and replacing it with the one from the other website. it's a simple swap but it took me an hour to figure it out myself with every "fix" leading to a dead end. it's worth the swap, you can't just get the one file from the site though you have to own the steam version then swap it with the free fix because I think the main files come from steam for ownership and launching. Replaced the executable in files like it said in the guide. However, when I try to open the game it just crashes without opening, no error message or anything
