How To Get/Use The Dev Console
By russgib638
This is how you can install and use the developer console. I show a few commands that I use sometimes. NOTE: I've been told that as of the 1.41 update, the command to teleport was switched from F9 to CTRL+F9. I don't have the capabilities to test this, so if this command doesn't work, I recommend looking it up or screwing around with your keys until you figure it out. Also, any screenshot used in this guide was made in 2018, so everything may look a bit outdated.

Introduction
Here's the video of all the commands I use in this guide. It's outdated, but if you want to watch it anyway, here ya go:

This guide will work for both the American Truck and Euro Truck Simulators. Thanks for still looking through this after a couple years. Feels nice to still see notifications for this thing even though I stopped playing both Truck Simulators a long time ago.

Getting the Console
So, this one is very simple. What you need to do is this:
  1. Open a blank text document (on PC, right click on your home screen, select "new", and select "Text Document").
  2. Open your American Truck Simulator folder in Files. If you do this correctly, the bar up top should say C:\Users\Name\Documents\American Truck Simulator
  3. Find a file named "config.cfg"
  4. Drag the file into your notepad
You should have a lot of code. That is good. You need to do two different things to install the console.
  1. Press CTRL+F and put in "console". Change the number from 0 to 1 (keep the quotations in-between the numbers).
  2. Press CTRL+F and put in "developer". Change the number from 0 to 1 (keep the quotations in-between the numbers).
  3. Press Save and close the notepad. The console should now be activated.

What It Looks Like In Game

Go into your game and press the "~" key. If you've done everything correctly, your screen should look something like this.

If it does not, then look through the code to make sure everything looks correct.
Teleportation
Teleportation is very easy. To teleport, open the console and type in, "goto [PLACE]." In the [PLACE] spot, put in the name of any city you'd like to go. The full list of names is here[truck-simulator.fandom.com].

Using the numpad, you'll want to move towards the ground so that when your truck gets teleported, it won't immediately be destroyed. I would recommend using a No Damage Mod.

To go forward, press 8. To go left, press 4. To go right, press 6. To go backwards, press 5. And, you can also go up and down. To go up, press 9. To go down, press 3. Use your mouse to move your camera. To change the speed, move the mouse wheel either up for a faster speed, or down for a slower speed. To complete the teleportation, press CTRL+F9.

NOTE: When you are moving, the terrain will take a while to load in depending on your processing power and the speed you were flying. If you are paused and flying around, the terrain won't load in at all. You can unpause the game while in teleportation mode, and the terrain should load.
Flying
This is basically advanced teleportation.

Press 0 on the top number line. The free-camera will teleport you to under your truck. Fun fact, you can still drive the truck in Free-Camera mode, sort of like an out of body experience.

To fly around and put yourself onto the ground, do the same thing you did when teleporting. You are easily able to get into restricted areas with this, including, but not limited to:

an airport in Phoenix, Arizona

and the parking lot of Venice Beach.

Weather
To change the weather, either rainy or sunny, you will have to do the following:
  1. press the "~" key.
  2. enter the command "g_set_weather [NUMBER]
  3. in the place of [NUMBER], you will have to put either an odd number for rain, or an even number for sunny. For example, if you type in "g_set_weather 1", you'll get rain. If you type in "get_set_weather 2", you'll get clear skies.
You can set the rain to be specific to; light rain or thunderstorms, etc.. This uses the SkyBox, which is the next section.
SkyBox
The SkyBox is just what the sky looks like. To change the sky, do the following:

g_set_skybox 0 - (this will create light rain)

g_set_skybox 1 - (this will create moderate rain)

g_set_skybox 2 - (this will create thunderstorms)

These were all taken at the exact same position in Bakersfield.
Police
There is a way to turn off certain fines in the Settings, but not completely disable the police.

In the console, type in "g_police 0". This will completely eliminate police presence. There will still be police cars on the road, but they won't do anything. You can crash into them, and they wouldn't care.
Warp
Warp is the speed of the game. The default setting is 1. Think of it like percentages. 1 means it's running at 100% speed. To change this, type in "warp [NUMBER]". Put in something like "warp 0.5", and the game goes on at half speed. If you want to go at 500% the default game speed, put in "warp 5".

Driving will reflect those driving on the road. On faster speeds, you will speed up incredibly fast, and your steering will be extraordinarily sensitive. On slow speeds, you'll speed up as fast as a snail, and you won't have great reaction times. The sound effects in the game will reflect the speed as well. Super fast, and the horn is high-pitched. Slow, and your truck will roar during acceleration.

Time will move in reflect of time as well. 500% game speed, and the time will move at 500% speed as well, so keep that in mind while doing jobs.
Time Manipulation
NOTE: You can only turn time forwards, not backwards.

Open the console and put in "g_set_time [NUMBER]". Replace [NUMBER] with an hour in 24 Hour time. 12 Hour time will not work. For example, you can put in "g_set_time 16" for 4:00pm. If you don't know the 24 Hour clock, click here[www.lsoft.com].

This will affect jobs, so if you're on a job, I recommend making sure you'd be able to complete the job in time. As far as I know, this will also affect tiredness and hunger.
Traffic
The traffic command works the same way as the warp command: think of it like a percentage. The default is 1 (or 100%). To change this, type into the console "traffic [NUMBER]". To get a lot of traffic, type in 10 (1000%). If you want no traffic, put in 0. If you want just a small bit of traffic, but not too much, put in any number between 0.1-0.9 (1%-99%).

After 10, there's little to no change because there's still a limit to what the game can render before it has to start despawning cars. So while it's not an actual limit, the limit is 10.
Conclusion
There are dozens of other commands in the Dev Console, but I only went over the ones I use. Let me know if you want me to add one in, and I'll look into it. Thanks for reading :]

Edit; March 18, 2020:
Holy crap, I made a lot more typos than I thought. Thank you for just skipping over them and not mentioning them, lol.

Edit: July 28, 2022:
Huge update to this guide. I apologize for putting too many random things into the sections, so everything's been shortened so I get straight to the point. Also, fixed all the typos that I didn't happen to fix in March 2020.

NOTE: THIS GUIDE WAS MADE IN 2018. SOME OF THESE COMMANDS MAY BE OUTDATED.

Any way to move around on a Mac? I have no number pad and I can’t seem to find any keys or lines of code about developer movement.

this is now outdated. pressing cntrl + f does nothing, same for developer mode. in fact the time manipulation is no longer in the config file, thanks to the scs...i used to use real time in game and it affected nothing everything was delivered early, but whatever. If only the retards would include an actual small real time digital clock, like many games do!

Possible for you to update your wiki link? The wiki moved to https://trucksimulator.wiki.gg/ . Looks a lot better now, it doesn't load slow anymore because of the ads.

Zenger is right because since v1.41, when SCS introduced convoy, had to be changed to fit the new features using good keys

In 1.41 update - "Ctrl + F9". :lunar2019piginablanket:
