Coin Location Guide! (for the Ice Cold achievement)
Door AtypicalChook
A quick guide on finding what I believe are most all of the secret coins hidden in The Hex so you can open up those pesky vending machines (and get the Ice Cold achievement).

**If you haven't played the game all the way through yet I'd recommend using this after as it shows a lot of locations & could spoil a few things.**

A couple things:
If you found a coin I didn't include please mention it in the comments!

Minor spoilers ahead, ye be warned. :)

You can find all of the coins in one go when starting the ??? Character campaign as the entire house is open to you!

...however you will need to snag the Headlamp to see a few coins and also will probably need to unlock Chef Bryce's room #1 on the second floor. The key for this room is in the cabin to the far right (just don't solve the computer puzzle or you'll get locked into going down the elevator)
All the coins! (Probably...)
The First Floor:
14 coins ($3.50)
(+2 coins unconfirmed if you can get with ??? in the last chapter or only with Rust)

The first 4 coins are right next to each other

  • One is behind the bottle on the shelf.
  • One is on a bar stool under an NPC. (available later in the game when you take control of them)
  • Two are in a secret compartment that opens if you put a mug on the counter.

  • Once the hologuide is activated if you move a bottle on the top left shelf it will highlight a secret spot on the wall with a round face; click it for two more coins!
  • One more coin is just sitting on the floor.

  • One more is to the left of the bar behind another bottle.

  • Once you can access the kitchen just toss the ice piggy bank into the oven and click the button for three more coins.

  • After entering the secret code in the kitchen to access the control room there is another secret code that you can barely make out "3663", indicating that you need to turn the wheels a apecific way: first wheel 3 times, second wheel 6 times, third wheel 6 times & the fourth wheel 3 times. The cabinet will open with three more coins! (Shout out to Randomiser for the solution!!)
  • UNCONFIRMED: When I came into this room with rust a glitched out hologram of a cow skull (unconfirmed but probably related to the gliched skull you can click on in Wasteworld) flew by me and I saw two new coins on the ground by the armory door! Not sure you can get this with ???.

The Basement (get the headlamp first!):
3 coins ($0.75)

  • One on a stack of barrels right befor the bomb.

  • One more right under the bomb.

  • Another hidden under the vat in the secret room in the basement.

The Second Floor:
13 coins ($3.25)

  • If you missed the coin in Bryce's room you can get the door key in the cabin near the end of the game. Its all the way to the right in the cabin on a table (just don't solve the power/battery puzzle first)

  • One coin is on the book shelf.
  • Three more coins are in a secret door opened by fiddling with the lamps. I did the first two on and the third off but your results may vary lol.

  • In Chandrelle's room there is a small tear in the wallpaper. Click it for two more coins!

  • The painting on the wall gives this away; but put the flower pot on the right side of the cabinet and three more coins are yours.

  • Head through Dust-, I mean Rust's room and to the right on the balcony are two more coins.

Outside the Six Pint & the Cabin:
4 coins ($1.00)

  • Head left past the hammer for this coin.

  • If you kept the headlamp you'll find two more coins in the whiz palace.

  • One more coin is in the cabin sneakily on a bookshelf.
Congratulations!
So all total you should have collected around 34 coins totaling $8.50. (Or $9.00 if you got the two unconfirmed coins with Rust at the armory door)

You need:
$2.50 for the 1st floor vending machine
$1.50 for the 2nd floor vending machine
$3.50 for the basement vending machine

Or 30 coins to be exact so you should have money to spare after getting your ice cold sodas (and the Ice Cold achievement!)

Way to go, you did it... hooray...

But seriously, thanks for reading my guide and have fun finding more secrets in The Hex! :D

I guess they hid more coins around to make it more forgivable to complete the vending machine stuff. Some coins are easy to miss.

It's always nice to see people finding new coins! I haven't had time to update this poor guide but I am glad people can find these via the comments. What a great game The Hex was :NekoFun:

in the room before the armory, above the machine with the wheels, there is a coin on the overhead light.

ITG's solution is the correct solution. Simply turning each wheel 3/6 times does not work (if you already moved them beforehand). The solution is to have the arrows pointing the correct direction.

Or rather, it seems that coins pile up next to the phone when you choose the beginning of every chapter, once...
