Introduction
NOTE: This achievement guide covers only the main game fully. After getting the achievements here go check out this awesome 100% DLC guide made by Ms. Foster to finish your full completionist run.

Hi there fellow achievement hunters!

If, when clicking on this achievement guide you didn't realize, then here is your SPOILER ALERT!

I have noticed that I needed to look for many achievement guides to figure out how to earn the achievements and even so I missed some on my first playthrough. Because of that reason I decided to create a guide that summarises the guides I've used to get my own achievements, so that it is easier for the people who want to have reliable information in one place.

I will try to list the achievements in the order of their earliest achievable time, so that you can earn them as soon as possible. Additionally, you will notice that I will categorize the achievements based on several things, such as if it belongs to the Main Storyline or to a Sidequest, what character does it tie to, etc. If I make a mistake, don't hesitate to add a comment, so that I can correct it and make the guide better for future readers. :)

Please note that you can get every achievement on one single playthrough, but there are some things that you can do early in the game that might block you from getting some achievements, such as The Saint.

I recommend playing on an easy difficulty if you wish to not have much to worry about beside getting the achievements. This means that you won't suffer penalties due to your survival needs and will get an advantage over enemies. Of course, every achievement is achievable on any difficulty, it's just harder. Bear in mind, that this guide is written considering that you will be playing on the easiest difficulty.
Non-Character Specific Achievements
There are some achievements which can be achieved in any act, or they have progress through every act. They are technically missable, but some should be very easy to achieve, and you'll just find yourself achieving them by doing an average playthrough.
Achievable in any act:
  • A Bit Of The Old Ultraviolence - Kill 100 NPCs across all playthroughs (Missable)
WARNING! This achievement makes the The Saint achievement unachievable! I recommend getting that one and then loading an old save to grind this one.
You just need to kill 100 NPCs. Easiest to do with Ollie, since he hits harder and has fighting talents aswell, though technically, it's doable in any act. Note that the NPCs have to actually be deceased, so choking, and non-murderous weapon knockouts do not count as a kill. If you knock someone out, you can hit them again with anything from a rock, shovel or any killing weapon to murderize them.

  • Baby You're a Rich Man - Gain £1000 from looting/bartering (Missable)
You'll probably find a lot of things from looting around the world, which you can then sell at shops. Some weapons, clothes, foods, crafting components or crafted objects sell at huge prices.
This achievment is easiest with Sally, since she can craft some expensive drugs with components found scattered around the procedurally generated open world, and she also has talents for earning more money for sold items, and gathering 2 items when harvesting a plant, which basically cuts your component need in half.

  • Don't You Have Somewhere Else To Be? - Survive 50 days (Missable)
Noting that this guide is written considering that you are playing without survival needs ingame, this achievment is very simple to earn: just sleep 50 times for 24 hours as soon as you find a bed you can sleep in.

  • I Got Better - Contract and cure the plague (Missable)
You have to get the plague and cure it. For this you will need two things: people with plague and a Phenocycline Jab. I got the plague by searching plague infected corpses (the ones with flies circling them), but you can contract it by getting attacked by a wastrel (plague sick person). When you contract the plague, you will get a marker similar to the achievement's icon, now you just have to use the Phenocycline Jab to cure it and you should get the achievement.

  • Now I Can Die Happy - Die while overdosing on Joy (Missable)
You need to fill your Joy meter by repeatedly consuming Joy, either by using Joy Booths or eating the pills you find around the world or by searching dead or knocked out wellies (happy people). After having your Joy meter filled, just get into a fight and get beaten to death, or walk off an island and fall to your death.

  • Our Prudent Friend - Listen to all the phone calls in the phoneboxes (Missable)
You will find some red phoneboxes on downer inhabited islands which are very different from the ones on the wellies' islands. These ones actually have phones in them and not joy dispensers. When walking near one of these phoneboxes, you might hear them ring, in which case you can listen in on the coded message transmitted. To get a new phonecall, a full day has to pass and you need to reload the area with the phonebox. The easiest way to get this achievment is to find a phonebox near a safehouse, listen to the phonecall, go to the safehouse, travel to a new area, travel back to the one where the phonebox is, sleep 24 hours and exit the safehouse to go to the phonebox, where a new phonecall will be waiting for you. You have to do this process 12 times within the same act.

  • You Do Know Jack - Collect all Uncle Jack Shows (Missable)
During your playthrough you will find TVs in people's houses or on the streets. These Tvs broadcast shows with Uncle Jack, the "face" of the civilization. You have to watch every one of the 45 shows for an amount of time (a few seconds should be usually enough) until the notification pops that you "picked up" that show. After which you can wait or sleep until the next air time. The list of collected shows can be seen in the main menu. Bear in mind that these shows are not broadcast linearly, the order is random, so it might take some time until you get all of them.
You have specific start times for these shows:
    • 07:00am - Wakey Wakey.
    • 12:00pm - News Hour.
    • 04:00pm - I hear you - Humor Hour - Play with Jack - Funny old Customs.

NOTE: According to the community in the comments, Humor Hour shows up at 07:30pm instead of 04:00pm.

Achievements Spanning Over Acts
These are some achievements, which have their progression over every Act.
  • Hot on her Heels - Find all notes related to Prudence (Missable)
You will find notes, diaries and such readable items throughout the map. Some of them are more important than others, at least from an achievement hunting point of view. The ones tied to Prudence Holmes are the ones we need for this achievement. Some of them can be found by any character, some by only one, they always spawn in a specific location and have he same title and content.
You can find them below with a "Character - Location - Title" listing.
    • Arthur - Barrow Holm Safehouse Bathroom - "The Diary of Prudence Holmes"
    • Arthur - Barrow Holm Hamlet House (first floor table) - "Mr. Kite's Instructions"
    • All Characters - Maidenholm Safehouse (desk in workbench room) - "Damp Diary"
    • Sally - Sally's House (lab table) - "Clientele" - gettable at the beginning of the "Wakey Wakey" quest - UNCERTAIN - Mentioned by Snicker in a comment below
    • Ollie - Victoria’s House (bathroom sink) - "By the time you read this"
    • Ollie - Victoria’s House (the blower/story related) - "Whereabouts of Prudence Holmes"
    • Ollie - Parade Broadcast Tower (on a desk right after getting off the elevator) - "Upsetting Articles"

  • Remember, Remember - Find all collectibles (Missable)
Throughout your playthrough you will see floating rotating masks around the world. Collecting them triggers a flashback memory cutscene. These masks appear and are different in every act, so you need to make sure that you collect them in one progression. For example if you missed one in some Main Quest or in a previous act, you have to go back after it and continue the game from that savepoint, rendering your intermediary progression useless, so, if you don't want to wake up after ACT III that you missed one in some ACT I quest, you'd be better off following a guide.
Please use this third party guide[gameplay.tips] until I manage to pass through the game again. This guide is made by translating the titles of the collectibles from German, so they might not be quite on point, but their locations are correct.

  • The Saint - Complete the entire game without directly murdering anyone (Missable)
By reading this achievement, one would think it refers to finishing all three acts back to back without killing anyone. This is currently not the case, as it seems that if you finish only ACT I without killing, you'll get this achievement. Regardless, I put this here in case it gets fixed (it looks like this has already been fixed). Either way, it's best if you don't kill anyone in ACT I and then see if you can unleash mayhem in the other acts or keep being friendly. Keep in mind that strangling enemies, knocking them out with Sally's Sleeptite Atomizer or knocking them out with "soft weapons" doesn't count as a kill, so you still have a combat option.
ACT I: ARTHUR
  • Snug as a Bug on a Drug - Take the Joy at the very beginning of the game (Arthur, Missable, Main Story, Prologue)
Right at the beginning of the game you bump into an article at your newspaper editor's job, which brings back some memories, after which you are presented with your first choice: Remember or Take Joy. Take the Joy to get the achievement and be greeted with the Credits screen, you just finished the game! Well, the bad and boring way, but nonetheless it's an ending.

  • Employee of the Month - Read all newspaper articles as Arthur, and redact only the uncomfortable ones (Arthur, Missable, Main Story, Prologue)
After choosing Remember at the previously described decision miss Byng will come into your office and you will have to replace a Motilene Cell (Battery) in your Restoration Machine and decide to Accept or Censor three articles. Only censor the second article (Gen. Byng Clarifies Registration Procedure) to get this achievement.

  • Enjoy the View - Correctly sabotage Clive Birtwhistle’s redactor work (Arthur, Missable, Main Story, Prologue)
After you finish your own redacting work, you can leave your office. Go into the office next to yours and sit down to "help" your rival coworker with his work. For this we need to accept the socially unwanted article and censor the acceptable ones. So, accept the first article and censor the second (Taxi Service Restored - On Three Wheels) and the third (Wellington Under Reopens) to get the achievement.

  • Downer - Complete Arthur's intro (Arthur, Main Story, Prologue)
You should get this achievement by progressing with the Main Story, when you finish the Prologue.

  • Arthur Haste-ings - Take Phlash as Arthur (Arthur, Missable)
You can complete this achievement fairly easily, as Phlash is found at shops, in houses, on people's bodies and you can also craft it. Bear in mind that to get the recipe for Phlash as Arthur you need to complete a sidequest. To get the achievement, take one Phlash as you get one. There should be a vending machine with Phlash at the gate between the first and second island.

  • Mother of All Victories - Complete "Band of Brothers" encounter (Arthur, Main Story, Band of Brothers)
For this achievement you have to complete the "Band of Brothers" story mission, in which you have to help Ollie rob the Military Base by turning off the power.

  • Not In Kansas Any More - Cross into the Village for the first time (Arthur, Main Story)
You get this achievement by naturally progressing through the Main Story, at the "Oh! Behave" quest, when you first enter a proper district, after the section where you shower, change clothes and pass a test.

  • That Kind of Game - Retrieve the credentials from the club (Arthur, Main Story)
You get this achievement by naturally progressing through the Main Story during the "The English Vice" quest.

  • Shocking Biology - Kill a guy named Ryan Andrews (Arthur, Missable, Main Story)
Ryan Andrews is a scientist NPC who spawns in dr. Verloc's factory. You can kill him during the mission where you get the cod liver oil, called "Hamsworth Lab". Just make sure that you save before you kill him, and reload the save afterwards, because killing him makes The Saint unachievable.
Note: Apparently, he spawns at other locations too.

  • The Great Lubricator - Deliver the cod liver oil (Arthur, Main Story)
You get this achievement by naturally progressing through the Main Story, when you finish the "Hamsworth Lab" quest.

  • Resistance is Futile - Talk to Johnny Bolton from the Secret Radio Room (Arthur, Missable, Sidequest)
There is a sidequest called "Old Soldiers" where you have to go into the house of a man, only to find him dead under a bookshelf. In the same house, you can go up the attic by placing the quest item rifle above the fireplace. A ladder will come down in the fireplace and by interacting with it you can climb up to the attic. Here is a radio station. Interacting with it starts a dialogue. When this dialogue finishes you should get the achievement.

  • The Importance of Not Being Seen - Finish Mystery House without being spotted once (Arthur, Missable, Sidequest)
This achievement is related to the last in a series of Sidequests involving a loony in a treehouse For this mission you have to go to the Mystery House, a house with signs that say that you should go back after sundown and eat a Hitoplasma. You will get a quest marker when you first go there, but you will have to be in the right stage of the mentioned sidequest line to be able to actually do it. This achievement is easy if you have the multitool to disarm traps or just throw something at the alarms so you activate them without getting in danger. Just make sure that you save before attempting the quest.

  • The Slaughterer's Apprentice - Finish all of the butcher’s apprentice quests (Arthur, Missable, Sidequest)
This achievement is related to a series of sidequests starting with 'Superb Meat Boy' which can be started by talking to an Impatient Person in St. George's Holm. Just keep doing the sidequests he gives you and after the final one, you should get this achievement.

  • Cat Burglar - In Thomasina House - Collect all fake cats (Arthur, Missable, Sidequest)
There is a sidequest line that you get from the general shop's keeper, one of those quests is recovering a cat statue from someone's house. You can find every fake cat without a problem if you just explore the whole house and search everything.

  • Gimme Shelter - Unlock all of Arthur's shelters (Arthur, Missable)
While playing Arthur's storyline, you will see that Arthur lives in the underground. You need to power up each fast travel switch as Arthur to get this achievement.

  • The Arthur Hastings - Finish Arthur’s playthrough (Arthur, Main Story)
When you get out of the mines and cross the bridge Arthur's act's cinematic starts. At the end of the cinematic, the achievement should pop.

  • The Saint - Complete the entire game without directly murdering anyone (Missable)
If you read the achievement's description, you might think it means that you shouldn't kill anyone all through the whole game, with its three acts. This doesn't seem to be the case and apparently if you don't murder anyone in Arthur's act, you should get this achievement.
ACT II: SALLY
  • Breaking Blackberry - Complete Sally's intro (Sally, Main Story)
You should get this achievement during normal progression, when you finish Sally's Intro mission.

  • Archipelagist - Set foot on every island (Sally)
This achievement should pop as soon as you get onto Rat's Holm with Sally, as part of her Main Storyline, if you have visited every possible island with Arthur.

  • The Wyrd Sisters - Complete the Crones encounter (Sally, Main Story)
This achievement is related to a Main Stroy line, where you meet with three witches on a mountain in the Garden District. Just keep doing the missions they give you and you should get this achievement after the last one.

  • Gotta Catch Them All! - Catch 40 butterflies with Sally's butterfly net (Sally, Missable)
You get a buterfly net from the witches from the previous achievement. After you get the net, you have to run around the Garden District to find butterflies and catch them. This is easier to do during the night, because the butterflies have a red glow which is much more visible in the dark.

  • The Toxic Ex - Complete speaking with Verloc at the Joy Factory (Sally, Main Story)
This achievement should pop after you go to the Joy Factory and talk to dr. Verloc on the TV. Don't worry, the mission is not as long as Arthur's, this one is just short cinematic.

  • I Love the Smell of Chloroform in the Morning - Knock out 50 NPCs with the Atomizer (Sally, Missable)
While playing with Sally, you will get two recipes: one for Sleeptite, and one for Sleeptite Atomizer. The atomizers are these perfume bottles which spray the chemical into people's faces. Bear in mind that you have to be in almost melee range for this to have an effect. If you get the talent where you get 2 ingredients instead of one when harvesting plants, and double the drugs when you craft them, this achievement shouldn't take too long to grind. Just spray 40 people with the Sleeptite Atomizer to knock them out and you should get this.

  • The Sally Boyle - Finish Sally’s playthrough (Sally, Main Story)
When you escape Wellington with Sally, you will get a similar cutscene as with Arthur. After that cutscene, the achievement should pop.
ACT III: OLLIE
  • Bon Voyage - Complete Ollie's intro (Ollie, Main Story)
You should get this achievement during normal progression, when you finish Ollie's Intro mission.

  • Sugar Daddy - Inject yourself with glucose 10 times (Ollie, Missable)
Since Ollie is diabetic, he knows how to craft glucose syringes. You get this recipe right after the intro mission. If you can find all the ingredients, you can technically craft all of those 10 syringes and use them instantly. I don't recommend this, since you will have to watch out for your glucose level throughout the act and having the syringes on hand is actually very useful, and you will porbably use them up naturally as you progress.

  • Miss Byng is Indisposed - Complete Hostage Situation encounter (Ollie, Main Story)
After you finish talking to and (apparently) breaking Miss Byng, after the "No Place Like Home" Main Story mission, you should get this achievement.

  • Get the Float Out of Here - Complete Red Hat Society encounter (Ollie, Main Story)
As part of Ollie's storyline, you will have to steal an Uncle Jack balloon from some Uncle Jack worshippers, called the Red Hat Society. They have the same NPC model as the ones who immediately aggro Ollie if they see him. The quest is called "The Jack-o-Bean Club". After you finish this quest and you exit the house, you should get this achievement.

  • A Heavy Burden - Spread the Message (Ollie, Main Story)
As part of Ollie's storyline, you will have to break into the broadcast tower, find Uncle Jack's last tape and broadcast it for everyone to see and wake up. After the revelation that you get after this part, the achievement should pop.

  • Lighten Up - Use 25 lightning rods, playing as Ollie (Ollie, Missable)
For this achievement you just need to throw down a lightning rod 25 times. Yes, it can be the same lightning rod thrown and picked up over and over again. Just watch out that you don't glitch it into two objects, because you will have to throw something and hit it to come out, to be able to pick it back up.

  • The Ollie Starkey - Finish Ollie’s playthrough (Ollie, Main Story)
When you get to the roof of the broadcast tower as the final scene, you get into the balloon and float off. After this cutscene, you should get the achievement.

Thanks for letting us know!
I added a note to the "You Do Know Jack" achievement to alert future readers that this seems to be the case.

Amazing guide, but you only earn The Saint achievement by completing all acts of the story of the game once you're done with epilogue or Ollie's story.

ryan andrews achievement: 0.52% chance a random npc shares the name, that counts as well, he specifically does not spawn elsewhere

To make it 100% clear about the Saint, you are only awarded the achievement at the end of the game, but it appears that you only have to complete 1 of the 3 acts without killing anybody. Based on this guide, and other info on the interweb, I completed Act I: Arthur without killing anyone expecting the achievement to pop, but it did not. I then completed Act II: Sally without killing anyone and the achievement did not pop. I completed Act III: Ollie killing lost of people and "The Saint" achievement popped at the same time as "The Ollie Starkey" achievement for finishing Ollie's story.

I tried to complete "You Do Know Jack" late in Arthur's playthrough, but I was only ever able to watch 44 of the 45 TV shows. The show, "Play with Jack - Weapons," just never came up. Fairly early on in Sally's playthrough this show popped very easily. Not sure why.

Thank you for this guide, helped a lot, amazing work!

If anyone's curious about "The Saint" still, I can give my personal experience with it. I finished the game on a blind playthrough while killing people, so this was an achievement I missed. I started a new game without killing anyone as Arthur, and at the end of his story, right before switching to Sally, I got the achievement. So it seems like you only have to do it as Arthur.

I'm doing the "You Do Know Jack" achievement at the moment. For me the Humor Hour ones are playing at 7:30 pm. I did not get them to play at 4 pm
