Axis Football Devs Story
We are a tiny, dedicated indie team, motivated by the lack of sim football options and determined to deliver a customizable football sim with a deep franchise mode and dynamic gameplay. Our budget for the 2018 game was about $15,000, and the majority of that came from sales from Axis Football 2017. Our small team works on this game during nights (and often early mornings) and weekends, relying on our day jobs to sustain our families and our passion for sim football gaming and the support of the community to continue to improve the Axis Football franchise.

The Future of Axis Football
Axis Football has come a long way in three years, but it's certainly not where we want it to be in terms of graphics and depth of features. We made huge strides from last year and have even bigger plans for what we can accomplish next year. Your purchase and support of this game helps to make those plans a reality. We heavily reinvest back into the game, and we hope that is evident with the progress we've made. We plan to release annual versions of the game with improvements to graphics, animations, features, and more! Let us know what you'd like to see in the game, and share Axis Football with your friends! Find us on Twitter @AxisFootball or Facebook at FB.com/AxisGames.

Franchise Mode Front Office
The Front Office is where you build your dynasty! From this screen, you can manage Depth Chart, Player Contracts, Practice Squad, Free Agency, Trades, and Injuries.

Depth Chart
The Depth Chart allows you to manage your team starters. You are able to review your team starters by position, injured players, and you move players to the practice squad. All stats shown for that position are important. In my opinion, here are the top stats for each position:
  • QB: THA / THP / AWR - throwing accuracy seems to be the most critical stat. Throwing power and accuracy will also help.
  • RB: SPD / TLB / FIT / FUM / CAT - For a RB that likes to get to the outside the hash marks, speed will be critical. Tackle Break will be important to break tackles and grab a few extra yards. Fitness will help you stay in the game more often. As you get tired, you slow down. Catch will allow your RB to be part of the aerial attack, so if that is your primary offense, make sure your RB can catch!. Fumble.. enough said..
  • WR: CAT / SPD - A speedy wide receiver is great but he has to be able to catch the ball!
  • TE: BLK / CAT /SPD - Alot will depend on your primary use of the TE. if you use your tight end as an integral part of your run game, then a good BLK rating is needed. Otherwise, stick with good catch and speed.
  • OL: BLK / AWR - A good line man must be able to block and must have the awareness to engage the DL.
  • DL: TCK / BRB / AWR / HTP - The Dline must be able to tackle and shed blocks to get to the runner and the QB. Awareness and hit power will also help.
  • LB: TCK / SPD / COV / HTP / BRB / - Linebackers are the bread and butter of a defense. They have to defend against the run and the pass. In my opinion, they have to have good tackle and speed to be able to engage the runner. They also should have a good cover if you are using them to cover the pass or if your DBs are not up to par.
  • DB: COV / SPD: DBs need to cover and need to have the speed to keep up with WRs. Once they get behind, it's hard to catch the WR.
  • P/K: KAC / KPW: Kickers and punters need kicking power and accuracy.

Player Contracts
This section allows you to review your player contracts so that you may plan for free agency, re-sign players at the end of the year, and prepare for the draft. The player contract screen displays player salaries and years left in contract. At the end of the season, players needing a new contract will be highlighted in red. Your total funds are shown on the right.

Re-sign Player
To re-sign a player, select the player. On the right side, you can use the sliders to adjust your offer (Annual Salary, and Contract Length). Once you are done setting up the offer, select Offer Contract. Players can accept the offer or reject the offer and provide feedback to help you decide whether or not to further adjust the contract. You can only re-sign a play at the end of the year his contract expires.

Releasing Player
Sometimes, you have to make tough decisions when building a dynasty. From the Player Contract screen you can also release players.

Keep in mind that some players are under multi-year contracts and releasing them may incur a penalty to your finances.

Managing Your Finances
Here are some tips to help you manage your finances.

  • You start your franchise with $25,000,000 cash (cash has already been alloted to cover existing player contracts). Spend this extra money wisely!
  • Player contracts are flat. They cannot be front or backend loaded. A player contract of $2,000,000 for 4 years will cost you $2,000,000 cash every year.
  • At the beginning of the season, players with 1 year left in their contract are the ones that you will need to re-sign, trade, or release.
  • Players with 0 years left in their contract must be re-signed or released (cannot be traded).
  • If you release a player, you receive some of the player’s salary back, but you will receive a penalty to your cap for each year left in the contract. For example, you release a player with a contract of $2,000,000 for 4 years. This player has a $2,000,000 cash hit per year.
  • You receive back ½ of this year’s salary so your cash would be credited with $1,000,000.
  • Because he has 3 additional years left, you would receive a cash penalty of 30% of his salary for each year. In this case, that works out to be $600,000 per year. Your total cash penalty would be $1,800,000.
  • Therefore, when you add your cash credit to the cash penalty, you would receive an overall cash penalty of $800,000 for releasing this player ($1,000,000 credit - $1,800,000 penalty).
  • At the end of the season, all salaries of players with expired contracts gets added to your salary cap. For example, Let’s say I have 10 players with expired contracts valued at $30,000,000. When the season ends, my salary cash increases by $30,000,000. You are still able to negotiate new contracts with those players but if you do not, they become free agents.
  • At the end of the season, your cash will receive a credit for the salary of any player that retired. For example, a player with a salary off $5,000,000 per year (1 year left in contract) retires. My cash is credited $5,000,000 (for the last year in his contract).
  • When negotiating contracts, try to find the right mix of salary and contract length. Some players may take less money at a lesser length so they can negotiate another contract in the future. Other players want the security of a longer contract. Their agent will provide feedback!
Franchise Mode Front Office Part 2
Practice Squad
The Practice Squad section allows you to view all players in your practice squad. You can send players from the practice squad to your active squad as long as you do not have a full 53 man roster. If your active roster is full, you will receive a warning.

Free Agency
The Free Agency screen allows you to review players that have not signed with other teams. If you find a player you want to hire, select him and offer him a contract.

The contract works exactly as it does in the Player Contracts section.

Trades
The bread and butter of many dynasties is the ability to identify great players in other teams and trade for them.

Add the player or players you wish to trade, find a player in another team you want to trade for, and select Offer Trade. Keep in mind that other teams are building their own dynasties and will not easily part with their best players. At this time, you cannot offer or receive draft picks in a trade. To start a trade, select ADD PLAYER, locate the player you want to trade, and select ADD PLAYER TO TRADE.

Find a player you wish to trade for in the other team’s roster, ADD PLAYER TO TRADE, and then OFFER TRADE. On the right side of the screen, you will see the financial impact of the trade. Remember that you are responsible for any penalties for trading a player with years remaining in his contract! On the plus side, you only pay a pro-rated amount of the new player's salary for this year (depending on the week in which you complete the trade).

If the other team accepts, you get a message indicating the trade was accepted.

If the team declines, they will provide some feedback. Don’t give up! Dynasties are not easily built. Reconsider the offer and try again.

PRO TIP: If a player is too valuable for them to trade him, they will tell you. Your chances of landing that player are small. If they don't tell you that, find the right TEAM NEED and try again. At this time you cannot trade draft picks.

Injuries
The Injuries screen lets you see which players are injured, what type of injuries they sustained, and their recovery status. Make sure you have a solid Depth Chart with good backup!

One thing to keep in mind on offense and defense, is that your players will get tired the more as they stay on the field and run plays. When you select the type of play you wish to run, the play formation is displayed along with the current players on the field. Any player that is tired will show up as a yellow or red circle. Yellow indicates the player is starting to tire and could run a few more plays. Red indicates the player is tired and will suffer a performance hit. Choose substitute to access the depth chart and bring in a replacement player.

For example, if you have a running play and the defense has stacked the box (has alot of players ready to stop the run), you can audible to a pass play. Team Stratege allows you to fine tune your offensive scheme.

Play Art
Holding down the button for Play Art lets you see the routes the players will run. This is useful in anticipating where the receivers will go or in which direction the run will go.

During game play input changes from Keyboard to Controller? How do I change it back?
HarmfulEffect  [autor] 12 set. 2019 às 22:52
@hurtn4certn, Far as I know, make sure the controller is installed and working before you launch the game. I have had issues trying to activate controller after i launch the game. Also, check the settings. There is a checkmark for 'ignore controllers'. Make sure that is not marked.
hurtn4certn 10 set. 2019 às 15:08
I can't get either of my controllers to work with this game. We can get as far as selecting teams, but cannot use the "A", "B" or any controller keys. Any thoughts?

Hey bud, i have a tough skin so i dont take stuff personally. Just here to help. I myself have been trying thinigs out in franchise SIM mode. I like to run a season or two just to see how my team progresses and regresses. I tried a coach mode game and actually found that real fun because i could call the plays. Sometimes the CPU will call plays that I wouldnt so yea it's fun being the coach. The game definitely has potential. I just submitted some improvements to the dev team so I am hoping they find a way to implement them. I love the stats and feel there are more i could use as a coach/owner. I am going to be coaching more games this week. I will try to capture a video of me making some calls in game or at least take more screenshots of that portion and better explain whats going on. it's still a little fast paced with all the line adjustments and audibles but i'll see what i can do.

I don't suppose you could put together a section on the UI - especially the mouse/keyboard UI.

Like you I enjoy coach mode the most. In fact it's all I really want to play (remember NFL Coach on PS3 - I miss that) . So far though the UI has symied me. Makes no sense. There are windows inside of windows except you can't see 'em 'cuz they're all the same color.

Anyway that's outside the scope of this. I got a lot of respect for guys like you Harmfull who spend their time creating useful tools, guides, mods etc mostly just to help others.

I have a habit of coming on really strong, just who I am - but - that doesn't keep me from saying Thankyou when it is well deserved. So - Thanks, Harmful for the work you do for the rest of us. Thanks

I am sorry but a bunch of pictures and bulleted lists without any procedure or explanation doesn't constitute a manual.

Looks real purty though.
